To select the appropriate patch for your environment, determine the following:
What version of the Oracle Database software are you using?
What is your Oracle Home location?
What is your hardware configuration?

You can determine your Oracle database version by navigating to the Enterprise Manager Database Home page. The version is listed under the General section.

The Oracle Home is the operating system location of your Oracle installation. To determine this location, click View All Properties.

The Oracle Home is listed on the View All Properties page. Click the Oracle Home link.
|

The Oracle Home directory page is displayed. On this page, you can view the file directory of your Oracle home, along with the installed product components and time of installation. Return back to the home page by clicking the Database tab.

Click the host link to access information about your hardware configuration.

The Host page appears listing your operating system, hardware platform, IP address, number of CPUs, memory size and disk space. Note your operating system and platform. Click Database to return to your Database Home page.

You can configure your My Oracle Support Login Credentials in Enterprise Manager as follows:

Click Setup on your Database Home page.

The Setup page is displayed. Click Patching Setup to access the Patching Setup page.
|
3. |
Enter your own My Oracle Support (formerly MetaLink) username and password. Click Apply.
|
4. |
Your My Oracle Support credentials have been successfully set up. Click Database to return to your Database Home page.

You must configure the software library before you can stage or apply patches as follows:
1. | Click the Software and Support tab.
|
2. | In the Deployment Procedure Manager section, click the Deployment and Provisioning Software Library link.
|
3. | The Provisioning page appears. Click the link for the Administration subpage.
|
4. | Scroll down to the Software Library Configuration section. Click Add.
|
5. | The Add Software Library Location page appears. In the Software Library directory location field, enter the name of the directory where the patches are stored (/home/oracle for example).Click OK.
|
6. | You receive a confirmation message. Click the Database link to return to the Database Home page.
|
In this section you learn how to download or stage patches. You also learn how to apply a staged patch.
Perform the steps listed below to stage and apply a patch:

Access the Software and Support page. Click Apply Patch in the Database Software Patching section.

The Select Patches page appears. Click Add Patches to search for new patches.

The Search and Select Patches page appears. Select Search My Oracle Support. Click Go.
|
4. | Available patches appear in the table at the bottom of the page. Optionally, click View to view the patch details. Note that the list of available patches you see may differ from our example.
|
5. | To invoke the Patching wizard, select the patch and click Select in the upper right section of the Search and Select Patches page.
|
6. | Ensure that the patch you have selected appears in the Patches table and click Next.
|
7. | The Credentials and Schedule page appears. Enter the credentials for the operating system user or select Use Preferred if you have configured Preferred Credentials. Review the Schedule information and modify as necessary. Click Next.
|
8. | The Review page appears. Review the infromation on this page and click Back to return to previous pages to make changes. Note the Enterprise Manager Database Control warning at the bottom of the page. Select "Select the check box to accept this warning and continue" after reviewing the warning information.

9. | The Review page is refreshed and the Finish button is available. Click Finish to submit the patching job.

10. | The Deployment Procedure Manager page appears. Click the link in the Run column to view the progress of the patching operation..

11. | The Status page appears containing information about the steps being executed. If any of the steps

12. | As part of the patching procedure, the database instance and Enterprise Manager Database Control are shut down and restarted. You must log in to Enterprise Manager Database Control once it has restarted. Navigate to the Procedure Completion Status page to check the status of the patching procedure.
