Planning and Budgeting Cloud, December Update
This document outlines the announcements and fixed issues in the upcoming Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud and Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud update.
Announcements and New Features
After applying the December updates to the test instances on December 2, 2016, additional testing uncovered a regressive defect that affected the connection between Oracle Smart View for Office and Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud. As a result, the planned update to production instances on Friday, December 16, 2016, has been deferred until the January update cycle when this defect will be corrected. No customer action is required.
You can now use REST APIs to get and set substitution variables. See the Oracle® Cloud REST API for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud guide available in the Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Help Center.
Access Logs that List Daily User Activity
You can now download a daily access log, a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file, which provides detailed information on the resources that users accessed, duration of user activity, the IP addresses from which users connected to the service, and the action that users performed in the service. The access log is generated each day.
To download an Access Log:
- Access the service.
- Click or tap Application, then Overview, and then Activity Reports.
Available Activity Reports and Access Logs for the last 60 days are listed. - Under Access Log, click Download to download the access log of a day.

Sandboxes Are Now Enabled by Cube
Before when you created the application, enabling sandboxes applied to the entire application. With this update, you can enable sandboxes by cube, which means:
- You can enable sandboxes for cubes after you create the application.
- You have more control over which cubes are enabled for sandboxes.
- You can enable sandboxes for custom cubes when you create them.
- You can migrate a sandbox-enabled Standard application to an Enterprise application (though sandboxes aren’t supported in the Enterprise business processes).
Notes:
- Sandboxes are available for block storage cubes only, not for aggregate storage cubes.
- If you enable sandboxes for a cube, only Version members that belong to that cube will have the Enable Sandboxes option.
- Sandboxes aren’t available for the default cubes that are created when you enable Enterprise business processes (that is, Financials, Workforce, Projects, and Capital). However, sandboxes are available to block storage custom cubes that you create in Enterprise and to the standard cubes that PBCS creates.
- You can’t change the Enable Sandboxes option for existing cubes, including cubes created by default such as Plan1. So, after you enable sandboxes for a cube, you can’t later disable sandboxes for that cube. Nor can you later enable sandboxes after you create a cube if you didn’t enable sandboxes when you created the cube.
Predictive Planning for Web Integration
This update includes an integrated Web-based Predictive Planning feature. You can now perform predictive analytics directly in Planning and Budgeting Cloud and Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud.
Smart View users can still perform predictive analytics using the previously released Predictive Planning for Smart View.
Predictive Planning provides a statistically-robust method for helping planners create and validate their forecasts. Predictive Planning uses time-series forecasting techniques to create new predictions or validate existing forecasts that were entered into Planning using other forecasting methods. Predictive Planning creates base predictions, along with worst and best case scenarios to provide range estimates.
To predict future values:
- From a valid form or ad hoc grid, select Predictive Planning from the Actions menu. Predictive Planning accesses historical data for the members on the form, analyzes the data for trends and seasonal variations, and then predicts future values based on this information.
- A results area opens below the form with a chart that displays historical data, forecasts, and predictions, along with detailed information about the prediction. Use the results to compare the predicted values to your forecasted values for each member.
Info Boxes compare the growth rates of existing forecasts to the prediction, enabling you to quickly validate forecasts. You can adjust existing forecasts, or paste the predicted data into a scenario on the form.
Related Content: Financial Reporting Web Studio
Related content in Financial Reporting Web Studio allows designers to set up links to Financial Reporting documents and custom URL links. A user, when viewing a report in HTML in the Explore Repository, can drill into a related content link and execute the linked report or URL. Related content is supported in dynamic and snapshot reports and books.
Hide Grid Lines in Financial Reporting Web Reports
When you create a grid in Financial Reporting Web Studio in grid properties, you can select to hide the grid lines in HTML Preview
Add a Filter to Repository Items
You can filter the types of objects displayed in the Financial Reporting Web Studio repository panel. For example, you could select to display only reports, saved grids, saved images, saved charts, row and column templates, and so on.
Oracle is committed to providing a simple and intuitive experience to the users of the service. To achieve this goal, service components are updated on a periodic basis. This section indicates upcoming major changes. Please send any questions and concerns you have to Oracle using the Provide Feedback option in the service.
Standard Interface (Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Workspace)
This change affects Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service customers who activated their subscriptions on or before July 31, 2016 only.
The simplified interface, an option available in the service since November 2014, will be established as the standard across the service. As a result, the current Standard Interface, which is also known as the Enterprise Planning and Budgeting Cloud Workspace, will be discontinued starting the December 2017 update (one year from this update).
Starting with the December 2017 update, all service functionality will be available through the Simplified Interface only. To prepare for this change, have your users familiarize themselves with the Simplified Interface using the following information sources:
- Accessing the Service for steps to access service.
- Working with Planning for Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud for information on completing Planning tasks.
- Administering Planning for Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud for information on performing Planning Administrative tasks.
Financial Reporting Studio Desktop Client
Financial Reporting Web Studio, a component available in the service since March 2016, will be established as the only tool for designing and building reports. As a result, Financial Reporting Studio desktop client support will be fully transitioned to Financial Reporting Web Studio, tentatively starting May 2017. With the May 2017 update, Financial Reporting Studio desktop client will no longer be distributed.
Starting with the November 2016 update, Financial Reporting Web Studio will achieve parity with most of the functional capabilities provided with Financial Reporting Studio desktop client. You will be able to create new reports and modify existing reports using Financial Reporting Web Studio.
Oracle recommends that you transition to using Financial Reporting Web Studio at the earliest opportunity. Please send questions and concerns to Oracle using the Provide Feedback option in the service.
Migration information that was previously available in Migrating Planning Applications for Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud has been reorganized, which causes existing bookmarks to fail with the page not found error. Updated migration information is now available from the following sources:
