In the latest issue of Java Magazine, I explore a wide variety of world-changing Java apps, ranging from space exploration to genomics, from reverse compilers to robotic controllers.
I started my tenure as editor in chief of Software Development magazine in 2000, when the San Francisco Bay Area’s savvy new Java developers were making headlines. I remember devouring the first edition of Head First Java, by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. Their very visual explanations made clear not only the language syntax but also the object-oriented programming concepts that led to Java’s success. Little did I know then that, fully 20 years later, Java would remain a powerful force in my own career, now at Oracle.
Now, I’m curious! Which apps should have made my list? Write me.
