VPAT® Version 2.3 - April 2019
Alternate Titles:
Laboratory solutions are designed to reduce manual steps in the lab workflow, making information easier to share. Reference Lab Network utilizes one standard HL7 connection, eliminating the need for point to point connection from a hospital's acute laboratory to contracted reference laboratory systems (Quest, Labcorp, Etc.).
When a provider connects to Reference Lab Network, all necessary infrastructure is in place to connect to the performing lab. Reference Lab Network establishes a connection to the reference lab (performing service). This connection allows the reference lab to receive orders from all providers connected to Reference Lab Network and to transmit results as well. Reference Lab Network sends the order or result messages to the performing lab or the provider’s laboratory information system (LIS) based on routing identifiers. Reference Lab Network transactions are sent to and received from entities authorized by the client.
