Oracle JDeveloper and ADF 12c (12.1.3.0.0) Supported Systems

This document describes which third party and Oracle software is supported to use in conjunction with the 12c (12.1.3) versions of Oracle JDeveloper, Oracle Application Development Framework, and Oracle Team Productivity Center.

Operating Systems and Java SE

The following table identifies which version of the Java SE JDK are supported on which supported operating systems in order to run JDeveloper and ADF.

Notes:

• JDeveloper 12.1.3 can be configured to develop/compile against JDK 8, and introduces support for JDK 8 language features. However, the JDeveloper process must be running with JDK 7.
• Mac OS support is provided for the purposes of a single user in a development environment only. Not intended for production deployments.
• Support for Other (untested) operating systems, including 32bit JDK, is provided for the purposes of a single user in a development environment only. Not intended for production deployments.
• JDeveloper requires a full Java SE JDK (as opposed to JRE).
• ADF (runtime) is tested and supported on the same platforms as the other Fusion Middleware Components. For a complete list, see the Oracle Fusion Middleware Supported Systems Configuration page.
• JDeveloper's Visual Editor for JSP/JSF does not work on OEL 5 and SUSE 10 due to incompatibility in gtk versions utilized on those systems.

Databases

The following table identifies databases supported by JDeveloper and ADF. JDeveloper support refers to using the modeling tools, browsing the database schema from the Database navigator, creating offline database objects, and using the SQL*Worksheet. For ADF, database support entails using the database as a data source for ADF Business Components.

Notes:

• For Other database support in JDeveloper, feature support is limited to browsing tables and using the SQL*Worksheet.
• For Other database support with ADF, use ADF Business Components with SQL-92 compatibility mode, or use EJB/JPA or POJO access as supported by the target application server.
• For third party databases, JDeveloper is supported with the vendor-provided JDBC drivers. ADF (Runtime) is supported with the WebLogic (Data Direct) JDBC drivers.
• ADF is supported with Oracle Database 11.x and 12.1 in single-instance and RAC configurations.
• For ADF applications, the Oracle Thin / XA Driver is not recommended. Use the Oracle Thin Driver instead for ADF.

Application Servers

The following table shows application servers supported by JDeveloper and ADF. Application Server support for JDeveloper is provided for connecting and deploying directly to the server as well as debugging. For ADF, it refers to servers that ADF applications can be deployed to.

Notes:

• Deploying an ADF application to WLS or GlassFish requires the ADF libraries to be installed and the server to be properly configured. See the ADF Administrator's Guide for more information.
• ADF applications cannot be deployed to Oracle Java Cloud Service - SaaS Extension at this time. Java Cloud Service is configured for ADF 11.1.1.7.1. To develop and deploy ADF applications for Java Cloud Service, you need JDeveloper 11.1.1.7.1.

Browsers

The following browsers are supported by JDeveloper and ADF.  Browser support for JDeveloper is provided for JavaScript code editor insight.

Notes:

• For Internet Explorer only Native mode is supported. View Compatibility mode and Enterprise mode must be disabled.
• In Internet Explorer, ActiveX must be enabled
• JavaScript must be enabled
• Stylesheets must be enabled
• XMLHTTP support must be enabled
• For optimal accessibility with Screen reader assistive technology, using the most recent version of the browser is recommended
• For using Windows Media Player to play videos using af:media component, Firefox and Chrome need to have the most recent version of WMP plogin

Mobile Browsers

Oracle ADF Mobile Browser supports additional mobile browsers on various devices. Please refer to the Apache MyFaces Trinidad documentation for specifics. 

Source Control Systems

 JDeveloper installation includes clients for Subversion and git by default. Other clients can be installed from Help > Check for Updates.

Desktop Clients

The following table identifies software that is supported for use with ADF Desktop Integration. ADF Desktop Integration allows ADF applications to be extended with a Microsoft Excel front end for users to use to interact with data accessed by way of ADF.

Identity Management

ADF Security utilizes Oracle Identity Management as an authentication provider. This table shows the versions of Oracle Identity Manager supported by ADF Security.

Team Productivity Center

The following table lists various software products supported for use with Oracle Team Productivity Center (TPC).

Migration Support

The following Migration paths to 12.1.3 are supported. This includes opening an existing project (built with an earlier version of JDeveloper) with 12.1.3. When opening the project in 12.1.3, you will be notified of any undoable changes that may be made during migration. It's always recommended to make a back-up copy of your projects before migrating, as JDeveloper does not provide any backward-migration support in the event you decide to stay on an early version. Migration support also entails being able to migrate your JDeveloper settings from one release to another. This can be done as part of the initial startup sequence the first time you run JDeveloper 12.1.3, or later by using the jdev -migrate flag.

The suppported migration paths to 12.1.3 are from the latest versions of 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.7.0), 11g Release 2 (11.1.2.4.0), or 12c (12.1.2.0.0) If you are currently not on the latest version of 11g Release 1 or 11g Release 2, you should migrate your application to one of those releases before migrating to 12.1.3.
