I was surprised at how easy it was to move from Oracle Hyperion to Oracle Cloud EPM. I now have so much more than I did before. The updates are easy to take and aren’t disruptive and costly like they are with on-premises solutions.

Business challenges

NCS Multistage is a leading provider of highly engineered products and support services that enable oil and gas operators to optimize oil and natural gas well completions and field development strategies. The company is well known for its quality of work and professionalism, with a record of more than 10,000 field successes. Headquartered in the United States, the business also has operations in Argentina, China, Russia, the Middle East and the North Sea.

After a successful IPO, NCS was feeling the weight of its legacy systems while dealing with the increased complexities of being a public company. Using Oracle Hyperion applications and Excel across performance management processes, the team struggled to collaborate and gain meaningful insights from disparate systems and less organized data. NCS’s IT staff also had to maintain not just the servers in the company’s headquarters but also the duplicate servers in multiple branch offices to meet disaster planning requirements.

Why NCS Multistage Chose Oracle

NCS chose Oracle for its complete financial performance suite capabilities, ease of updates, and the built-in integration with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP.

Oracle partner EPMI facilitated the implementation of Oracle Cloud EPM for NCS in 12 weeks and helped to establish modern best practices for finance in the company.

Results

With help from both Oracle and partner EPMI, NCS implemented Oracle Cloud EPM Planning, Account Reconciliation, and Financial Consolidation and Close.  As a result, NCS shaved the month-end close process to several days, rather than weeks, across multiple entities with varying charts of accounts. Direct integration with its existing Oracle Cloud ERP also enabled NCS to migrate off BlackLine, giving the company the ability to drill down into source data when investigating account reconciliation issues.

Oracle Cloud EPM increased the efficiency of NCS’s 12-month rolling quarterly forecasting and 3- to 5-year long-range planning efforts. Worrying about lengthy manual upgrades is now in the past as NCS enjoys automatic updates that deliver new capabilities every quarter.

Overall, the most important benefit NCS has realized is the ability to rely on a single system of record across all performance management processes. The company can tie back numbers to the data with confidence in their accuracy.
