Mary calls her neighbor who recently had work done on his property. Mary's neighbor tells her about the City of Innovation's new online self-service capabilities that make it easy for constituents to navigate the planning process from start to finish. In fact, since rolling out this new solution and simplifying the application process, the City of Innovation has seen an increase in both residential and commercial projects across the community, accelerating new developments and encouraging homeowners like Mary to reinvest in their neighborhoods.

Feeling empowered, Mary visits the City of Innovation's website to take a quick look at the options available to her. She wants to understand what is required to build the addition on her property. Mary locates the ''Explore My City'' feature on the City's website, which adds a geographical context to navigation and search. This allows Mary to use intelligent mapping to see where other ADU's were permitted in her area, as well as the recorded conditions of approval.

Mary is excited, realizing that she can do this. She is happy there is an easy-to-use digital assistant, and after a few simple questions, she is guided to the right application for her proposed project.

By leveraging Oracle's Policy Automation, the City of Innovation has seen a significant improvement in customer satisfaction and reduction in errors, since residents like Mary are efficiently guided to the right information. In this case, Mary has all the information she needs to initiate her application and fills out an easy online form to get her project started.

Once Mary submits her application, the City's new system assigns a planner to her project. Meet Tom, Tom is the planner responsible for overseeing Mary's application and is one of many city staff members to benefit from the City of Innovation's latest technology upgrade.

Tom has been using Oracle's Community Development solution to simplify the planning process and improve efficiency across the agency and for its constituents. Once assigned, Tom leverages an intelligent worklist, which organizes action items and required tasks, to determine next steps and ensure all processes are adhered to and met throughout the planning lifecycle. Tom proceeds by scheduling a meeting with Mary and her architect to finalize the details around her application, share estimated fees and discusses approval timeline.

After completing the pre-application consultation phase with Tom and finalizing the plans with her architect, Mary returns to the City of Innovation's website to submit the recommended applications for her Accessory Dwelling Unit. The seamless online experience makes interacting with the government effortless, which Mary really appreciates. As a new mom, it is important for her to be able to move at her own pace while staying informed to each step of the process. The intuitive design makes it easy for Mary to complete her online applications, upload her plans and pay the associated project fees in one simple guided interaction.

Now it's time for Tom to review Mary's entitlement applications. The City of Innovation's new solution has transformed many aspects of the application process, including how agencies review, process and approve planning and building applications. Staff members can easily view application submissions in the context of maps, gather the right information and route it quickly for processing. Tom can easily track progress and provide quicker, more effective service. Following completion of each department's review, Tom schedules their inter-departmental Design Review Meeting to discuss the conditions set, ensure their alignment and unite in their recommendation for approval.

Tom uses the solutions hearing scheduler to manage and schedule a hearing date.

Ready to proceed, Tom uses the geographic information system (GIS) based proximity tool in the system to quickly generate a list of property owners within his selected radius around Mary's proposed ADU. Tom confirms the date Mary's ADU will go before the appropriate hearing bodies and sends out the notice.

Mary's hearings proceed without any interruptions. The City Council meets and concurs with the Planning Commission and approves the application. Mary is notified that she can proceed! She can now work with her contractor and is happy to learn they will use the same Community Development solution to submit her building permits, schedule inspections, and build her addition.
