At Uber Freight, real-time pricing is a core pillar of our offering and has always been part of our vision to build a freight marketplace that’s transparent, efficient, and collaborative for carriers and shippers. We’re proud to partner with Oracle to help shippers respond to unique demands in today’s evolving market and keep their businesses moving.

Business challenges

Since its debut in 2017, Uber Freight has built one of the largest digitally enabled carrier networks in North America. It has transformed entrenched logistics practices involving pricing and booking freight.

With a focus on industry collaboration, Uber Freight has built a marketplace that makes transporting freight easier and more accessible by introducing one-touch booking at fixed rates and pioneering real-time pricing and capacity APIs.

As industry pressures grew in the face of global uncertainty, Uber Freight wanted to help businesses use reliable data points to make smart, fast decisions about their supply chains. To give shippers more flexibility and control over their operations, Uber Freight needed to expand its direct API integrations.

Why Uber Freight chose Oracle

Uber Freight decided to integrate with Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) to make it easier for shippers to use real-time pricing and a reliable capacity network. By partnering with Oracle, Uber Freight could provide shippers access to innovative features through Oracle’s Transportation Management solutions, including 24/7 transparent pricing, new tendering capabilities, and increased flexibility and controls in a constantly evolving market.

Results

By directly integrating the Uber Freight API with Oracle Transportation Management, shippers can see and lock in rates up to 21 days in advance, resulting in reduced overhead costs and more flexible operations. Many shippers have already seen significant efficiencies by leveraging the integration. One large US multinational consumer products company now manages 30% of its freight through the Uber Freight API and has reduced total transportation costs by 5%.

Uber Freight’s integration with OTM, part of the Oracle Cloud Supply Chain Management suite of applications, gives shippers the ability to compare transportation alternatives against contracted rates, receive instant quotes for new customers or lanes, and manage seasonal overflow.

When using real-time pricing instead of RFP and spot auction, shippers save on average 10% or more per load. Similarly, the savings from access to real-time pricing versus contract pricing can be as much as 5%. Other benefits include auto tender acceptance and operations teams that are readily available for support.

Dan Hess, transportation supervisor for Uber Freight customer Ravago, says his company's freight operations are heavily invested in the spot market. “Uber Freight’s API has allowed our company to automate some of Oracle Transportation Management’s processes with real-time pricing, which leads to increased productivity and allows more attention to load execution management. The API has made our world much more streamlined than before and has boosted our workflow’s resilience for the future.”

Overall, the Uber Freight integration with OTM leads to a more efficient and stable supply chain, which is especially critical through periods of disruption.
