Bionexo is a Brazilian SaaS applications provider that offers administrative, procurement, and supply chain solutions that connect life-saving supplies to hospitals and clinics in Central and South America. With 3,500 health customers, 35,000 suppliers, and 100,000 users, the software’s essential mission is to keep the extensive healthcare supply chain operational regardless of scheduled downtime, security threats, and unplanned outages. As a global service, Bionexo also needed to protect itself from regional failure, so it sought a cross-regional disaster recovery infrastructure.

Why Bionexo chose Oracle
Bionexo selected Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to unify its IT infrastructure, database, and applications in the cloud. To maximize application availability, performance, and manageability, the company also upgraded its operational and analytical MySQL databases to Oracle Database Service. Overall, Bionexo determined that OCI met its goals for performance, availability, security, manageability, and resiliency.
Results
In only two months, the company’s SaaS services ran 68% faster and operational costs dropped by 40%, helped by OCI’s pay-per-use model. OCI also strengthened the security from user access to data protection throughout the platform. OCI’s high security standards protect sensitive transactional and analytical data, including supplies ordered, prices, and order frequency. Operationally, Bionexo substantially boosted its system availability, reducing application downtime by 75%, from 37 days per year to only 9 days per year.
In addition, database recovery time dropped by 95%, from 138 minutes to only 7 minutes. Complete application recovery was fully automated with a single click using OCI Full Stack Disaster Recovery and Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance. This helped Bionexo to regularly simulate disasters and limit recovery time to only 30 minutes of downtime.
The improved performance, reduced downtime, fast recovery time, and strengthened security of the new OCI-based Bionexo system also offered a greater degree of infrastructure assuredness. Regardless of potential spikes in the number of users, unforeseen disruptions, or security threats, the Bionexo ecosystem can dynamically grow and respond to whatever customers need, without degrading performance.
