Business challenges

Bom Futuro's mission to feed and clothe the world requires advanced technology. The Brazilian company operates 90 farms with more than 500,000 acres of owned and leased land, primarily growing cotton and soybeans, and employs more than 7,000 staff. More than 30 years old, it also operates businesses in livestock, real estate, transportation, and property security.

The company is transitioning to Agriculture 4.0, implementing Internet of Things sensors, connectivity, analytics, and artificial intelligence to optimize outcomes, and produce food on a large scale, sustainably.

Bom Futuro ran operations on local servers in a data center in company headquarters. In addition to outage risks, processing was slow, due to the large amount of data in its database—about 4.5 terabytes. The organization sought a more scalable and flexible IT infrastructure to power its digital transformation.

Oracle has been a great partner of Bom Futuro for a long time. The group trusts Oracle, one of the company's leading technology suppliers.

Why Bom Futuro Chose Oracle

Bom Futuro chose Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Oracle Exadata Cloud Service for the security, reliability, flexibility, and performance that the company needed. Additionally, the company knew it could count on Oracle, based on trust built through a long-standing partnership.

Results

After implementation, Bom Futuro saw a 70% improvement in processing performance compared with its on-premises infrastructure. The company expected it would need 30 days to complete the migration to Oracle Cloud, but accomplished it in fewer than 15, following a challenge from the company CIO.

The organization now scales cloud resources up and down instantly, saving costs and giving Bom Futuro constant visibility into its cloud spending. “Today I know how much I'm spending on the cloud daily, even hourly,” says Alexandre Carvalho, CIO. The instant scalability is particularly useful during periodic demand peaks, such as payroll or account closing. And being able to quickly set up a server as needed for a new project saves the company time and money.

The migration to Oracle Cloud has also reduced Bom Futuro’s energy use and physical server maintenance, and improved its data security, the company says.

Partners

Bom Futuro worked with DBit, a specialist in Oracle technologies including enterprise resource planning, to manage crop and payroll controls.
