Business challenges

Founded in 1997 and headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, Perficient is a global digital consultancy helping the world’s biggest brands connect with customers and grow their business. The company's efforts include enterprise mobile applications, creative services, marketing, digital strategy, Internet of Things, information technology, management consulting, custom development, and platform implementations.

Perficient provides digital solutions, including Oracle technologies, to major accounts globally, with about 7,500 employees working in 40 worldwide locations. In recent years, Perficient has been growing rapidly, both organically and by acquisition.

For 20 years, Perficient relied on numerous on-premises systems including Oracle E-Business Suite for its accounting and human capital management processes. Multiple disconnected and heavily customized systems made it difficult to scale. Hindered by paper-based workloads, an inability to scale key processes, and on-premises systems that were expensive to support and maintain, the company sought to move to the cloud.

We saw an immediate return on investment with Oracle General Ledger and Oracle Cloud Accounting Hub. We are now performing financial reporting 100% in the cloud.

Why Perficient chose Oracle

To help Perficient focus on growth using simple and intuitive processes, the company needed cloud-based applications for enterprise resource planning (ERP), human capital management (HCM), and other business functions in order to enable automation. It needed globally scalable applications that could handle regional variations such as taxes and localizations, and be accessible 24/7. The company also sought strong mobile access capability because many employees work remotely.

The Perficient team decided that Oracle Cloud Applications, including Oracle Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning and Oracle Cloud Human Capital Management provided a complete and modern SaaS offering capable of meeting the company’s needs.

Results

Using Oracle Cloud Applications, Perficient expects improved global operations across finance and accounting, project billing and costing, procurement, and human resources. The company will decommission Oracle platforms by migrating existing and new disciplines to a global instance of Oracle Cloud. The deployment to more than a dozen countries will set a scalable standard that supports both organic growth and acquisitions.

The move to Oracle Cloud ERP and Oracle Cloud HCM is providing qualitative and quantitative benefits to Perficient. Throughout the company, connected human resources and financial workflows can be optimized and automated in the cloud. For instance, the new Oracle Cloud Accounting Hub rapidly consolidates multiple international ledgers for a reliable single source of truth, while integrated data across finance and HR allows Perficient to make better business decisions.

In finance, Perficient benefits from the automation that comes with Oracle Cloud ERP, such as automating the journal entry approval process. The built-in functionality enables the execution of previously cumbersome and complex tasks with a few clicks, such as maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance and allowing for mobile expense approvals and time entry.

With Oracle Cloud ERP, Perficient can refine many processes to avoid complex software customizations. As a professional services organization, the company chose the project module for project management as well as revenue recognition. Oracle Project Management within Oracle Cloud ERP provides a clear view of a project’s finances, people, and resource allocation, and allows for easy project approvals. This has improved project profitability insight, reduced project risk, and increased business performance.

The team also expects to save considerable time and money by ending the maintenance, support, and development of Perficient’s legacy on-premises systems. Oracle Cloud Applications provide quarterly updates that Perficient can adopt quickly with no customizations and less testing.

In addition to Perficient’s use of Oracle Cloud ERP and Oracle Cloud HCM, the company expects to add Oracle Cloud Applications for supply chain and enterprise performance management for a fully integrated platform to run its business.
