The Oracle and KPMG Cloud Threat Report identifies the key risks and challenges that organizations are facing as they implement and maintain cloud solutions. Securing an organization’s data and maintaining compliance require a security-first approach to culture and infrastructure, with a clear understanding of the shared responsibilities required for cloud security.
While 75% of IT professionals view the public cloud as more secure than their own data centers, 92% also feel that their immaturity in their cloud security programs is creating a readiness gap. An increasing number of businesses are identifying their own lack of shared responsibility knowledge in securing cloud, as a key cause for the frequent misconfigurations and gaps and this misunderstanding goes all the way to the top with only 8% of cyber leaders fully understanding their team’s role in securing cloud versus the cloud service provider.
When organizations do not employ a top-down, security-first culture that spans the C-suite, the result is data loss, proliferation of malware, and mistrust of the cloud service. With 59% of respondents reporting that they have had privileged cloud credentials phished, and 75% experiencing data loss from a cloud service on more than one occasion, businesses are forced to ensure that all their teams are assuming ownership and responsibilities for securing mission critical data.
