Oracle Social Network is a secure collaboration tool that provides the social capabilities which enable business users to quickly correspond and collaborate on business activities.
 

The Oracle Social Network web and mobile clients are not included in this VPAT. For an accessible experience it is recommended to use the Oracle Social Network Add-in for Outlook (Desktop based client).

This VPAT includes the Oracle Social Network Add-in for Outlook (Desktop based client) and the Oracle Social Network Administration Console (Web-based administrative client).  

Section 1194.22 is only applicable to the Oracle Social Network Administration Console - the web based administrative client.

 

This VPAT does not cover the following product areas:
  • This VPAT does not cover the Oracle Social Network browser based web client and the Oracle Social Network mobile clients. 
  • For users who have Oracle Social Network daily digest and notifications sent via e-mail, the links to Conversations will open in the Oracle Social Network Web Client. In order to access these Conversations, use the Oracle Social Network Add-in for Outlook and "Search" and find the Conversation by name. 

For the Oracle Social Network Add-in for Outlook client to be accessible - 

 1. The assistive technology package must allow for the reading of tooltips. It is recommended to set the preference for the verbosity level to read tooltips.
 2.  Set the message display to compact view in the Outlook Add-in
  • Open the Settings menu at the bottom of the add-in panel.
  • Select Manage and then select Display Messages in Full View.

Oracle Social Network Add-in for Outlook client also has specific shortcut keys that make keyboard navigation easier for accessibility. 
The Oracle Social Network Help Center provides additional information on how to make the Outlook client accessible.

Oracle Social Network Administration Console provides accessibility modes for screen reader, high contrast colors and large fonts that can be set from the "Accessibility" dialog in the product. 

The information below describes this product's ability to support the applicable U.S. Section 508 standards and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0 Double-A Guidelines, subject to Oracle's interpretation of those standards and the remarks in this document.

Bug 11656234: When assistive technology is enabled and keyboard navigation is used (tab key), sometimes the control flows backwards. When this happens, pressing the Shift key once will return the navigation to normal.
 
1194.21(b) Applications shall not disrupt or disable activated features of other products that are identified as accessibility features, where those features are developed and documented according to industry standards. Applications also shall not disrupt or disable activated features of any operating system that are identified as accessibility features where the application programming interface for those accessibility features has been documented by the manufacturer of the operating system and is available to the product developer. 1194.21(c) A well-defined on-screen indication of the current focus shall be provided that moves among interactive interface elements as the input focus changes. 1194.21(d) Sufficient information about a user interface element including the identity, operation and state of the element shall be available to assistive technology. When an image represents a program element, the information conveyed by the image must also be available in text.   • using assistive technology each object, icon and image have a meaningful identification.
  • any change in state is also identified.
1194.21(e) When bitmap images are used to identify controls, status indicators, or other programmatic elements, the meaning assigned to those images shall be consistent throughout an application's performance. The product was tested to ensure that

  • Images that convey information have meaningful alternative text using tooltips.
  • Images that are decorative are marked so as to be ignored by assistive technology.
  • Images are used consistently throughout the product. 

Issues found in Oracle Social Network Add-in for Outlook
Bug 14133662: The Outlook Add-in client provides additional information about icons and messages using tooltips. The assistive technology package must allow for the reading of tooltips. It is recommended to set the preference for the verbosity level to read tooltips.
1194.21(f) Textual information shall be provided through operating system functions for displaying text. The minimum information that shall be made available is text content, text input caret location, and text attributes. Product has been developed to conform to this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

The product was tested to ensure that

  • textual information is available when using assistive technology

Issues found in Oracle Social Network Add-In for Outlook:

Bug 11696675: The font size cannot be increased using CTRL +,  however a screen magnifier can be used.
1194.21(g) Applications shall not override user selected contrast and color selections and other individual display attributes. Product has been developed to conform to this standard subject to the remarks on the right.

The product was tested to ensure that

  • operating system level color settings are not overruled by the product.
1194.21(h) When animation is displayed, the information shall be displayable in at least one non-animated presentation mode at the option of the user. Product has been developed to conform to this standard subject to the remarks on the right.
