Oracle ACFS has always been integrated with Oracle Automatic Storage Management extending its functionalities to support general purpose files as well as database files; even while it was temporarily called Oracle Cloud File System for this purpose. Oracle ACFS is designed to have direct access to Oracle ASM disk group storage for the shortest IO path to deliver optimal performance. Oracle ACFS underlying extent-based architecture provides fast file access, high throughput and fast response time.
Oracle ACFS leverages Oracle Clusterware functionality allowing for direct involvement in cluster membership state transitions and resource-based high availability. Oracle ACFS, ADVM, Oracle ASM and Oracle Clusterware, all combined, make up the Oracle Grid Infrastructure (GI). Oracle GI is a tightly integrated foundation to manage databases, volumes and file systems in cluster environments, simplifying storage and cluster management, and greatly reducing complexity and costs.
