ArcelorMittal, formed from the 2006 merger of Luxembourg-based Arcelor and India’s Mittal, is the world's largest steel manufacturer, with a presence in 60 countries and an industrial footprint in 18. The company produces safe, sustainable steel for customers in the automotive, construction, household appliances, and packaging industries.

As the company started to digitize and automate more of its global operations, it saw the need to enhance the education and rebalance the skill sets of its nearly 200,000 employees. Problem was, ArcelorMittal’s patchwork of outdated recruiting, training, and performance-review tools provided limited functionality and little visibility into HR competencies across operations globally.

Why ArcelorMittal chose Oracle

ArcelorMittal turned to the Oracle Cloud HCM suite of HR applications because it needed a comprehensive, intuitive enterprise-wide solution for recruiting, onboarding, competence management, learning, succession planning, performance management, and strategic workforce planning—and one that didn't need to be maintained by its IT organization. Oracle was the only vendor to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to a successful partnership, says Koen Mols, who leads ArcelorMittal’s HR Excellence Program.

Oracle Cloud HCM gives ArcelorMittal an end-to-end system for managing its workforce. Already, job candidates in Germany and Poland can access a single, branded career site that lists all positions available worldwide.

Oracle Cloud HCM e-recruiting capabilities help the company compete for talent more effectively, especially in highly competitive markets that are home to high-tech companies and startups. In Poland, for example, ArcelorMittal received 1,000 applications in the first six weeks of using Oracle Cloud HCM. Meanwhile, hiring managers receive notifications of candidates’ progress instead of searching for information buried in emails. And instead of logging into five systems to conduct a performance review or using three systems to plan employee training, managers can use Oracle Cloud HCM for every aspect of human capital management throughout the employment lifecycle of each individual.

Oracle Cloud HCM requires minimal training, compared with the thousands of hours ArcelorMittal’s European employees used to spend just learning previous on-premise HR systems. “We need to ensure, with the help of Oracle, that we are able to hire the right people in the business at the right time and with the right qualifications," Mols says. “That’s what this is all about.”
