Need

Before leveraging OCI Goldman Sachs encountered a select lack of elasticity and just-in-time scalability, operations and performance issues, complexity, and fragmented systems. The limitations of traditional data center infrastructure somewhat limited its agility and innovation potential.

Why Oracle Cloud?

Goldman Sachs chose Oracle Cloud as a strategic partner for several compelling reasons including:

  • Commercial benefits such as flexible compute and no network egress fees over OCI’s dedicated connections
  • Technical benefits such as enhanced performance, scalability, elasticity and resiliency.

Underpinning OCI is an advanced second-generation cloud network infrastructure, providing stable, consistent, comparatively better, and predictable performance, which is helpful for Goldman’s high performance computing needs.

Customer-oriented collaboration

Oracle’s dedicated account and product teams provided unwavering support throughout the migration journey. Goldman Sachs Chief Technology Officer Atte Lahtiranta highlighted the mutual commitment to excellence: “Oracle’s responsiveness and commitment to product enhancements has been a key part of the partnership. Oracle has often turned feature requests around in weeks to months, versus months to years.”

Results

Goldman Sachs onboarded OCI in a relatively short, accelerated timeframe, followed by a meticulously planned migration. The firm is now seeing improved price-performance for its risk calculations, running on less compute resources.

Atte emphasized: “Our collaboration with Oracle aligns with our strategic goals and we appreciate the dedicated teams from Oracle who work with us, helping us to meet our service and quality requirements.”
