We moved our hosting to Oracle Cloud using managed Kubernetes and saved 40% of our hosting costs. We reinvested that cost savings into GPU shapes and have been able to deliver even more advanced computer vision technology to our customers. Oracle Cloud is instrumental in helping us scale and innovate.

Business challenges

As fashion stores closed their doors during the pandemic, Snap Vision offered its visual search technology to retailers in the UK, free of charge, to help brands create a new digital experience for customers shopping from home. The London-based startup’s technology uses artificial intelligence to help shoppers find more of the clothes they love, as well as enabling retailers to improve conversion rates and even protect their brand from copycats. By supporting others in times of uncertainty, Snap Vision bolstered its own business.

The company was able to scale quickly and service new customers in part thanks to the flexibility of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Using Oracle Cloud Engine for Kubernetes enabled Snap Vision to set up new hosted environments for retailers at low cost. This allowed for quick and simple deployments, with less overhead on new client integrations for the Snap Vision technology team.

Why Snap Vision Chose Oracle

Snap Vision chose Oracle for its strong reputation, customer portfolio, and cloud solutions. The startup relies on a multicloud strategy to satisfy its customers’ cloud preferences, and benefits from the OCI and Microsoft Azure Interconnect in EMEA. It uses Azure for testing and development and OCI for production-ready workloads. The company finds that Oracle’s partnership with Microsoft makes a multicloud approach easier.

As part of the Oracle for Startups program, the free cloud credits and a 70% discount on OCI from day one was an amazing benefit. The flexibility to easily scale up and down was also a draw for the growing company.

Results

Snap Vision migrated its platform to OCI smoothly with no disruption of services, thanks in part to the dedicated experts on the Oracle for Startups cloud architect team who could answer technical questions. The move dropped the startup’s hosting costs by 40%, allowing it to invest in GPUs and do more computer vision R&D than ever before.

Joining Oracle for Startups helped Snap Vision scale without the need for its own global sales teams. Integrating into various Oracle product families has led to Snap Vision moving from the startup program into Oracle Silver Partner status, working hand in hand with Oracle’s sales teams. The growing startup is excited about the partnership’s potential for global scale.

Snap Vision has built on the Oracle relationship to now offer integrations with Oracle CX products including Marketing and Commerce, gaining an extra layer of credibility when pitching to new enterprise customers.
