We are very satisfied with the Exadata servers in the Oracle Cloud. They meet our requirements for data throughput, data volume, complexity, and response time. Overall, our ‘Journey to the Cloud’ with Oracle went smoothly and we look forward to continued successful cooperation.

Business challenges

Dialog Semiconductor is a leading supplier of standard and custom integrated circuits for Internet of Things (IoT) applications for customers such as Apple, Samsung, and Microsoft Xbox. The company’s chips ensure effective power management in everything from smartphones to windshield wipers.

To save costs, reduce in-house hardware, and concentrate more on core competencies, the company considered moving its entire data manufacturing analysis division to the cloud.

Due to the good experience we have already gained in more than 10 years with the Exadata on-premises architecture, it was clear to us that we wanted to continue the trusting cooperation with our contacts at Oracle with the step into the public cloud.

Why Dialog Semiconductor Chose Oracle

The company conducted a thorough evaluation of cloud providers, but found that only Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Exadata Cloud Service met all the company’s requirements for performance, stability, security, and scalability.

Results

In terms of total cost of ownership, Dialog discovered that Oracle Exadata Cloud Service clearly beat the on-premises alternative. The company can access data and applications anywhere for more flexibility. In addition, the computing and storage capacities of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure can be scaled at any time—a key criterion for Dialog Semiconductor against the background of the extremely volatile semiconductor market.

Thanks to the Exadata cloud services, redundancy and backups of databases, application servers and storage, data loss and downtime are no longer an issue. In addition, Dialog’s production data archive, which already comprises more than 60 terabytes, can continue to grow securely.
