Security Zones enforce security posture on OCI cloud compartments and prevent actions that could weaken a customers’ security posture. Security Zone policies can be applied to various cloud infrastructure types (network, compute, storage, database, etc.) to ensure cloud resources stay secure and prevent security misconfigurations. Users determine which policies are appropriate for their needs by defining Custom Security Zone policy sets.

Rely on Security Zone policies to automatically prevent actions that could weaken the customers’ security posture. Users determine which policies are appropriate for their needs by defining Custom Security Zone policy sets.
Custom Security Zones are simple to use- just select the policy statements that are relevant for your needs and and the target compartment. Policies can be specified through the OCI Console UI, CLI, API or Terraform.
With Custom Security Zones, updating your security zone policy set can be done in minutes by selecting or deselecting from a range of policy statements that pertain to different infrastructure types. The risk inherent in hand editing a policy or specification file is avoided and Oracle Cloud platform behavior and policy statements are tightly coupled.
Cloud Guard monitoring is integrated with Security Zones and monitoring targets are automatically generated that correspond to the security policy applied using Security Zones. The combination of Security Zones policy enforcement and Cloud Guard posture monitoring extends the scope of CSPM tools to include active policy enforcement.

According to IDC, the top security threat in cloud environments is ‘security misconfiguration of production environments’- based on a survey of 300 CISOs. Fortunately, ‘security misconfiguration’ is a challenge Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) helps organizations address head-on with the recent integration of Oracle Security Zones and Oracle Cloud Guard. With Custom Security Zones, enterprises can quickly and easily apply security policies to automatically enforce desired security posture and prevent changes that could weaken a customer’s security configuration.
