Business challenges

Pella Corporation is a leading designer, manufacturer, and installer of made-to-order and custom windows, doors, blinds, and shades for new construction, remodeling, and replacement applications for home and commercial markets. As a family-owned, professionally managed, and privately-held company, Pella is known for its 90-year history of making innovative products, providing quality service, and delivering on customer satisfaction.

Pella began to upgrade its on-premises human resources solution with the goal of benefitting from new functionality as well as eliminating many customizations. Along the way, Oracle presented Oracle Cloud HCM as an option, which Pella selected. The company wanted greater agility, reduce complexities, and gain cost efficiencies. Having had a positive experience with other Oracle cloud solutions, including Oracle Service Cloud, Pella decided to move forward with Oracle Cloud HCM.

Why Pella Corporation chose Oracle

"Oracle HCM Cloud enables us to integrate processes and adopt a more strategic approach to HR management across the enterprise, now and into the future. As experienced with the Oracle Talent Acquisition Cloud, the system is easy to use, so our staff members have adapted to new processes very quickly. Additionally, Oracle’s commitment to the cloud, the platform’s robust functionality that enabled us to reduce customizations, and its affordability were major differentiator for us."

Results

With the migration to Oracle HCM Cloud, including Oracle Talent Acquisition Cloud, Pella is improving its ability to hire, retain, develop, and effectively compensate its employees by eliminating many manually-intensive HR processes. In addition, its core HR team is benefitting from the solution’s simple, intuitive user interface, which is driving higher productivity and enabling team members to focus more time on strategic priorities.

The solution’s robust functionality and flexibility enables Pella to eliminate many of the customizations required in its legacy environment. When the deployment is complete, the company expects to have eliminated more than 60% of the customizations currently in place with the legacy environment. Further, Oracle HCM Cloud accelerates the company’s deployment timeline and allows it to spend more time up-front on implementation planning time, which, in turn, can help to drive down overall costs.

Moving forward, Pella will continue its implementation beyond the Oracle Human Capital Management Cloud Service, Oracle Benefits Cloud Service, and Oracle Payroll Cloud Service which it plans to launch in January 2016. Additionally, Pella hopes to integrate talent and learning modules next year. As a result, the company will create a better team member experience—from hire to retire—and ensure greater flexibility and visibility when it comes to managing its teams. Further, Pella plans to take advantage of the platform’s extensive analytics and reporting capabilities to eliminate many spreadsheet-based processes, gain better insight into its employees and their talents, and work more collaboratively with them on mapping and advancing their career paths.

Partners

“Going with a cloud-based solution changed our entire timeline as we could spend more time up front on strategic planning, and could ultimately deploy more quickly. We were up on the cloud on part of Oracle HCM Cloud in just about six months, and Deloitte was instrumental in that process. They played a critical role in planning and mapping the new environment as well as identifying opportunities to eliminate customizations,” said Teri Lancaster, IT manager, Customer Experience and Human Resources Applications, Pella Corporation.

Pella and Deloitte teamed to deliver a solution that is built to help the enterprise evolve and stay ready to navigate disruption.
