With BIOS-Update to A08, the installation finishes without problems. During boot-up I only had to expand the Grub kernel line with the parameters discribed above (-B acpi_user_options=2 kernel/unix ) and later add them to the menu.lst. Kernel debugging as described in the first comment had not been necessary.

Installation hung repeatedly on D620 with A08 BIOS. Disabling the onboard NIC prior to launching installation allowed the install to run smoothly. Post installation, re-enable the onboard NIC and installed the drivers obtained from Broadcom.

I had no problem with Solaris 10 11/06 on this Laptop, but I installed 08/07 release and I have to disable PC Card (PCMCIA) from BIOS in order to boot correctly. Could anybody help me? Thanks!

with SXDE 1/08 disable onboard NIC, it's work fine. enable onboard NIC, it's freeze on configuring devices.

Solaris 10 11/06, 64 bit mode, BIOS rev. A07 with ACPI Usage Instructions: When booting the first time after installation, edit the GRUB entry and add the following to the "kernel" line: -B acpi_user_options=2 kernel/unix -kvd This will boot in 32bit mode with kernel debugging. In debug mode, enter ::bp -d -n 1 attach_drivers :c Solaris continues to boot for some time and reaches a breakpoint. Now enter npe`pcie_error_disable_flag/W 1 :c Booting continues successfully. The changes should now be made persistent: - Edit /etc/system and add set npe:pcie_error_disable_flag=1 - Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and change the standard Solaris entry to add the following to the "kernel" parameter: -B acpi_user_options=2 kernel/unix That's it, now S10 U3 runs on the D620 (Except for some components like WLAN, SmartCard, Expresscard slot...). Additional work may be necessary to add drivers and configure the graphics card. In my case the integrated iGMA950 works, but the resolution was initially 800x600 instead of 1280x800.

Varios configurations of the Dell D620 may present usage/installation problems. If you are experiencing problems the following tips may be useful: 1) Upgrade the bios to at least A07 ... some say A05, but that didn't work for me 2) Turn off the on board broadcomm/ethernet controller in bios BEFORE attempting to boot from dvd/cd to install (or the installer will just lock up) ... after solaris finishes installing, reboot and turn it back on in bios, then install the broadcom drivers (from www.broadcom.com) and reboot -- -rv
