Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Enterprise Ready Framework: Create a Super Administrator Account

<Do not delete this text because it is a placeholder for the generated list of "main" topics when run in a browser>

Purpose

In this tutorial, you learn how to create a new super administrator account.

Time to Complete

Approximately 5 minutes.

Overview

A super administrator account is a highly privileged account used to perform management tasks in Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. Super administrator accounts have full access privileges to all targets and administrator accounts within the Enterprise Manager environment.

There is one special super administrator account, the SYSMAN account, which is not only a super administrator account but also the repository owner. This account cannot be modified, duplicated, or deleted, so you need to create a separate super administrator account if you want to have your own login credentials. Oracle Corporation strongly recommends creating your own super administrator account and using that to manage Enterprise Manager, rather than using the SYSMAN account.

Prerequisites

Before starting this tutorial, you should:

Note: Screen captures for this tutorial were taken in a Linux environment; if you are using a different operating system the browser look and feel will vary slightly.

Creating A Super Administrator Account

.

To create a new super administrator account, you need to login as an existing super administrator. This is the one time that Oracle recommends you login using the SYSMAN account. After you have created a new super administrator account, you can use that for performing the work you would normally do as SYSMAN. To login as the SYSMAN user, start a browser session pointing to where you installed Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c. The URL for this is usally of the form https://hostname:portnumber/em. In our example architecture we use https://host02.example.com:7799/em. When prompted, use a user name of SYSMAN, enter the password (NOTE: the user name field is not case-sensitive, but the password field is so make sure you enter the password correctly), then either click the Login button or press the Enter key:

.

From the Enterprise Summary screen, choose the Setup menu on the top right of the screen, then select Security followed by Administrators:

.

From the Administrators screen, select the SYSTEM user and click the Create Like button (NOTE: You will not be able to select the SYSMAN user to perform the Create Like operation on, since it is also the repository owner):

.

On the Create Administrator Like SYSTEM page, enter a name of DB_Admin, choose a password and confirm it, and enter an email address and description for this new administrator. Since you selected SYSTEM on the previous screen, and it was an existing super administrator account, the Super Administrator check box will be selected for you. The DB_Admin account we are creating doesn't need specific roles, target privileges or resource privileges since it has full access as a super administrator account, so simple click the Review button to move to the next screen:

.

Review the settings on this screen, then click the Finish button:

Setting The Default Home Page

.

The next part of the process is to set the default home page for the account we have just created. To do this, first log out as the SYSMAN user by clicking the Log Out button on the top right of the screen:

.

You will see a message confirming you have been logged out. Next, enter a user name of DB_Admin, and the password you used when creating the DB_Admin account, then click the Login button or press the Enter key:

.

On the Select Enterprise Manager Home screen, you can select any of the default pages. Given the name we have allocated to this account, you can probably tell we're planning to use this account to manage databases so we'll select the Databases home page by clicking the Select As My Home button next to Databases:

.

You should now see the Databases home page:
