Due to the complexity of maintaining and enhancing our old business applications, we decided to replace the complete footprint of applications with top-of-the-line technologies from Oracle to modernize and support our business for many years to come.

Business challenges

Headquartered in Saudi Arabia, Zamil Industrial Investment Company (Zamil Industrial) develops innovative design and engineering solutions for use in the construction industry, with more than 11,000 employees working globally across four business units including HVAC, steel, insulation, and concrete.

For over 20 years, Zamil Industrial used Oracle E-Business Suite and an internally developed supply chain application to manage its core business processes. As the company worked to expand and accelerate its business, its on-premises applications became a barrier to growth. The company was also limited by data silos between Oracle E-Business Suite and its proprietary applications. A lack of integration and standardization, increased manual effort, and the high cost of IT systems maintenance were also negatively impacting operations.

Zamil Industrial sought to enhance the digitalization of its core business processes to improve efficiency and better serve its customers. The company required a scalable, flexible, and integrated solution to support financial and supply chain planning, sales, procurement, manufacturing, maintenance, and HR operations.

We are transforming the company to be part of the new digital world. We see Oracle as a strategic partner working with Zamil Industrial to help us deliver on our vision and objectives.

Why Zamil Industrial chose Oracle

As an existing Oracle customer, Oracle Cloud was the obvious choice for Zamil Industrial’s digital transformation. The company also considered Oracle to be a leader in ERP software.

Results

Zamil Industrial embarked on an end-to-end business transformation strategy to modernize and replace its heavily customized Oracle E-Business Suite application. The company replaced complicated customizations that had been implemented in the legacy applications and has benefited from the new functionality and modern user experience of the applications running on Oracle Cloud.

Moving to an all-in-one Oracle Cloud HCM solution has allowed the company to connect human resource processes, including global HR, talent management, workforce management, and payroll. With Oracle Fusion Payroll, Zamil Industrial’s payroll performance has improved by 40%.

By improving its chart of accounts structure, item codification, and standardization, Zamil Industrial can now close its books in five to seven days, with plans to bring the number of days down to three to four using Oracle Cloud ERP. The finance team has two extra days each month dedicated to supporting the business with value-added services and financial analysis that is leading to faster and more informed business decisions. The company can also access reports more easily without relying on manual processes and spreadsheets.

Integration between multiple business units has increased collaboration and access to accurate information. Implementing a shared services unit in its accounts payables section has increased the speed and efficiency of the company’s payments processing by 20%.

With an end-to-end solution using the functionalities of Oracle Configure, Price, Quote, Oracle Product Lifecycle Management, Order Orchestration, and Material Requirements Planning, Zamil Industrial has improved its Engineering to Order process by 50%, leading to better customer service delivery and order and manufacturing efficiency.

The company uses Oracle Analytics Cloud on Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse to enable queries across multiple data sources—merging data from Oracle Fusion and in-house applications—but is still in the early stages. Eventually, Zamil Industrial might also import historical data from Oracle E-Business Suite for more detailed reporting and analysis.

As part of Zamil Industrial’s transformation, the company has successfully implemented Oracle Cloud ERP, SCM, and HCM across its HVAC business unit. It has a roadmap in place to roll out a complete Oracle Cloud ecosystem, including Oracle Cloud EPM, across its remaining steel, insulation, and concrete business sectors. The company also runs three Oracle E-Business Suite instances on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, using Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse as a cloud data warehouse with Oracle Analytics Cloud. The company has saved thousands of dollars by decommissioning its disaster recovery site since moving to Oracle Cloud.

Partners

To adopt its Oracle Cloud platform, Zamil Industrial worked with Oracle Platinum Partner Evosys because of its long experience with Oracle Cloud implementations.
