Vodafone Fiji is the Pacific island nation’s leading provider of mobile communications services, including voice, data, and internet access. Its share of the Fijian market is between 80 and 85 percent.
One hundred percent locally owned and operating as a partner market of global carrier Vodafone Group, Vodafone Fiji is expanding into Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Kiribati, and other Pacific islands through a series of acquisitions. The company also acquired information and communications technology company Datek Fiji to provide end to end ICT services and solutions.
In 18 months, we had increased our data almost threefold because of acquisitions, so we needed to upgrade our capability to handle all of that data.Ronald Prasad, Chief Operating Officer, Vodafone Fiji
As a result of acquisitions in the Pacific, Vodafone Fiji's data volumes grew exponentially.
Company database administrators (DBAs) were spending most of their time pulling reports in different formats from disparate systems.
Moving to Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse and Oracle Analytics, both of which run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Vodafone Fiji consolidated that data and simplified and accelerated the reporting. Oracle autonomous technology automates many traditional database tuning, maintenance, and optimization functions. Thanks to its self-healing, self-managing, and self-patching capabilities, DBAs now spend more time strategically analyzing network usage trends, informing promotional campaigns, churn, and building models. They work with frontline teams to effectively respond to changing market dynamics and take advantage of identifying upsell and cross-sell opportunities.
“We leveraged Oracle Analytics to interrogate the data and give us some great business insights,” says Vodafone Fiji COO Ronald Prasad. “The biggest advantage of Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse is it significantly cut down processing time and helped simplify reporting and analytics, so we could go to market much faster.”
Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse and Oracle Analytics are accelerating Vodafone Fiji’s operational reporting, boosting performance sixfold for the processing of 600 million records per day or 50 TB of data per month.
