OMV boosts web content with speed and efficiency using Oracle
The Austrian oil, gas, and chemicals group achieved substantial savings and improved performance with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and WebCenter Sites.
“Oracle WebCenter Sites gives us an efficient and flexible platform for our web content management. We have integrated the administration and publication of all content into one system, which allows us to drastically reduce content management complexity and costs. And with Oracle Cloud’s flexibility and the ability to scale at any time, we are securing the value of our investment over the long term.”
Business challenges
For its new web content management system, OMV needed to replace its on-premises combination of IBM WebSphere and Oracle FatWire with technology that would offer rich functionality and high availability, while being flexible enough to accommodate to OMV’s content management requirements.
OMV wanted to drastically reduce the complexity and costs of its content production and publication workflows, while boosting the performance of the system and the efficiency of content managers.
Also, the company needed to ensure consistent communication and a single visual corporate identity. It also wanted to combine the separate intranet and internet content management processes.
Complementary applications, such as single sign-on, had to be easily integrated into the web content management system. The company also wanted to simplify operations and cut maintenance overhead.
Why OMV chose Oracle
Even though OMV had been successfully working with Oracle databases for web content management for years, company policy required that all IT projects undergo a detailed selection process.
After reviewing proposals, the company named Oracle the winner due to its superior technology. The crucial criteria included functionality, performance, the scalability of Oracle WebCenter Sites running Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), and flexible license models.
“Oracle’s proposal was optimal for us in regards to the suggested technology, the contract terms, and the way our collaboration was structured. The price-performance ratio was persuasive. OMV was confident about starting this project and was not disappointed,” says Oliver Gruhsmann, OMV’s senior digital communications manager for corporate communications.
Results
With the new, integrated web content management system and the high performance of Oracle Database Cloud Service and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, OMV was able to boost its web editors’ efficiency and significantly accelerate the creation of new internet and intranet content. The company estimates that it has gained about 50% more time using WebCenter Sites. Content is now created and published for both OMV’s intranet and external website on the same platform, which allows standardized and simplified processes. At the same time, OMV enjoys a consistent internal and external corporate visual identity.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s sophisticated technology ensures the maximum availability and stability of the company’s web content management system, while also saving OMV money for content creation and system operation and maintenance.
Partners
OMV selected eXa-online, an Oracle Gold Partner. Deploying Oracle WebCenter Sites, eXa-online took over web content publishing content that was provided by OMV. The project was finalized in only nine months, within the deadline and the planned budget.
