Because of Oracle’s footprint in the education industry, when we talk about how our CMS runs on OCI, there are no questions from customers about wanting to run it on Azure or AWS. That part of the conversation doesn’t even happen.

Business challenges

Global IT Factory provides educational institutions with a Curriculum Management System (CMS), which helps academics define, create, amend, and update curriculum that is offered to students.

Curriculum is a strategic asset for educational institutions. Global IT Factory’s CMS acts as a single source of truth and also helps simplify curriculum management. As a result, universities are more agile and compliant with accreditation bodies, and can accelerate time to market. The CMS ensures, for example, that traditional universities can more easily tap into new market demands, such as micro credentials, certifications, and professional qualifications.

When Global IT Factory started developing its CMS in 2017, it decided to take advantage of the cloud, ensuring its CMS could be offered to institutions as a SaaS offering. The strategy would lower costs for both Global IT Factory and its customers because they no longer had to invest in on-premises hardware. Additionally, customers valued the cloud’s greater accessibility and security, which helped broaden Global IT Factory’s market reach.

Based on Oracle’s presence in education, we could see it was well-positioned to support our growth.

Why Global IT Factory chose Oracle

There were numerous reasons Global IT Factory chose to underpin its cloud strategy with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). But one stands out: After comparing Oracle with other cloud providers, Oracle’s strong presence in the education industry tipped the scales in Oracle’s favor.

Also, as an Oracle partner, the company was impressed with the support it received. Another big draw was Oracle Standard Database Service on OCI, which enabled Global IT Factory to deploy solutions faster and lowered costs for licenses and professional services. Plus, Oracle had a number of cost-effective, ready-to-use security services.

Results

After implementing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Global IT Factory enjoyed high availability with zero outages that would affect customers. Also, the company did not receive any negative feedback from its customers regarding application responsiveness.

Its development and security staff could count on help from the Oracle ISV team to solve problems, optimize existing functions and features, and adopt best practices. For instance, Oracle guided them to optimize database-as-a-service costs and extract the most value.

The proactive Oracle team even extended its support to include co-funded marketing initiatives.

In the near future, Global IT Factory plans to expand its use of Oracle Cloud Guard and adopt OCI Kubernetes Engine (OKE) for automated deployment and scaling. Over the longer term, it plans to implement Oracle AI and machine learning services.
