Migrate Oracle E-Business Suite to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Oracle E-Business Suite helps organizations of all sizes manage the complexities of global business environments across human resources, financials, supply chain, and inventory. For organizations looking to move to the cloud, there’s good news: You can keep the E-Business Suite you know while taking advantage of the operational and cost benefits of the cloud. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is designed to deliver a simpler migration across all applications, including E-Business Suite. Oracle’s second-generation cloud platform improves application performance and availability, for less.

Oracle E-Business Suite on OCI—flexible deployment options

Flexible deployment options
The diagram describes three options for deploying E-Business Suite on OCI. Starting from the left, the single node on compute model has both the application and database tier in one single VM. This deployment model is ideal for demos, sandbox, training, or to explore new E-Business Suite functionality. The multi-node on compute model has the application tier separate from the database tier and lets you add as many application tiers as needed. This model is a popular option for dev, test, and (for some customers) production. On the right, the multi-node on compute and database service model uses database as a service via Oracle Database Cloud Service, Exadata Cloud Service, or Oracle Autonomous Database instead of running the database on compute, like the other two models. Most E-Business Suite customers use this model as it’s ideal for mission-critical workloads that demand high availability, scalability, and manageability.

  • Ideal for demos, sandbox, training, or to explore new functionality of E-Business Suite.
  • Both the application tier and the database tier are in one single VM.
  • Simple provisioning with E-Business Suite demo on Oracle Cloud Marketplace.
  • Popular option for dev, test, and, for some customers, production.
  • Application tier is separate from the database tier; add as many application tiers as you need for your user population.
  • Most E-Business Suite customers use this model.
  • Ideal for mission-critical workloads that demand high availability, scalability, and manageability.
  • Instead of running the database on compute (as in models 1 and 2), this model employs database as a service via Oracle Database Cloud Service, Exadata Cloud Service, or Oracle Autonomous Database.

How to migrate

E-Business Suite deployments can be easily migrated to run on OCI—without requiring significant configuration, integration, or business process changes. Only available on OCI, Oracle E-Business Suite Cloud Manager is a web-based tool that drives all the principal automation flows, including provisioning new environments, migrating environments from on-premises, and performing lifecycle activities on those environments. It was designed to simplify the diverse tasks Oracle E-Business Suite administrators perform daily. It is deployed via an Oracle Cloud Marketplace image, following preparatory configuration of your OCI tenancy, compartments, networks, security, and groups.

With Oracle Cloud Lift Services, Oracle gets you up and running on our cloud faster. A dedicated group of our top engineering talents helps you quickly migrate workloads to OCI—taking you all the way from business case development and architecture design through go-live.

Resources

Performance and TCO

Beyond a straightforward migration, easy management, and improved scalability, moving to OCI lowers your TCO—by 30% or more.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure was designed specifically to support enterprise workloads such as E-Business Suite. With E-Business Suite on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, you have the advantage of support from a single vendor—with exclusive testing, certification, and automation not available through other cloud vendors. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure delivers higher performance compute, storage, networking, and managed database instances that result in a high performance experience for your users at a lower cost of operation versus on-premises and other cloud vendors. In addition, Oracle Database with RAC as well as Exadata Cloud Services (both are often used by E-Business Suite customers) are only provided on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure; other clouds are limited to less robust configurations.

Resources

Integration services

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure integration services connect any application and data source to automate end-to-end processes and centralize management. The broad array of integrations, with prebuilt adapters and low-code customization, simplify migration of your E-Business Suite environment to the cloud while streamlining hybrid and multicloud operations. Developers and cloud architects can connect SaaS, E-Business Suite, and on-premises applications six times faster with a visual development experience, prebuilt integrations, and embedded best practices. Oracle Integration gives you native access to events in Oracle Cloud ERP, HCM, and CX. Connect app-specific analytic silos to simplify requisition-to-receipt, lead-to-invoice, and other critical processes.

Resources

Built-in security

Oracle security is built from the ground up and addresses challenges across infrastructure, data, and application layers using the same full-stack approach that unifies the management layer and reduces the complexity of what’s managed by our customers. OCI has partnered with leading network security vendors, such as Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, and Cisco, to provide validated reference architectures for protecting E-Business Suite workloads.

With Autonomous Database, Oracle offers a self-patching database to keep security policies up to date and data secure. At the same time, workloads on OCI benefit from a security-first cloud architecture with isolated network virtualization, hardware root of trust, and encryption for data at rest and in motion. Prescriptive recipes in Oracle Cloud Guard and policy enforcement in Oracle Security Zones help our customers maintain strong policy enforcement across their OCI deployment. Finally, with Oracle Identity and Access Management, you have role-based enforcement to minimize configuration errors for all users.

Resources

Complete support for hybrid and multicloud strategies

While most E-Business Suite workloads can be migrated to the cloud, some require the resources of an on-premises environment. Oracle’s offerings address customer requirements for specialized deployment, disconnected and intermittently connected operation, low latency, and high performance, as well as data locality and security. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Dedicated Region offers all the capabilities of a public cloud within customer data centers, allowing applications to be deployed on-premises and migrated over time to the public cloud.

Oracle also provides an open platform ecosystem and diverse options to connect to different cloud providers or on-premises data centers. Inexpensive data egress charges allow you to save significant costs while extending your IT environment to the cloud. Oracle Interconnect for Microsoft Azure helps customers choose the best of Oracle’s and Microsoft's technology to maximize their return on investment.

Resources

Smarter apps

Oracle Digital Assistant delivers a complete AI platform to create conversational access to information and processes that sit within E-Business Suite and run across other applications. This enables easy, 24/7 digital access to key tasks, automated approval routing, and management of frequent queries that typically come in from employees, vendors, and customers. Enabling automated text and voice access to back-end E-Business Suite (and other application) data and processes allows the AI-powered assistant to assume the bulk of work on daily queries, routine tasks, and approval routing. Key processes such as accounts payable period close, invoice management, purchase requisition approval routing, and shipment tracking requests can be handed by the digital assistant; your employees only spend time on exceptions.

Resources

Insights and visualizations

Enable self-service access to data analytics across E-Business Suite and all your other applications with Oracle Analytics, a cloud native service that handles the entire analytics process, including data ingestion and modeling, data preparation and enrichment, and visualization and collaboration, without compromising security and governance. Embedded machine learning and natural language processing technologies help increase productivity and build an analytics-driven culture in organizations.
