Oracle Solaris 11 enhances its existing, integrated software defined networking technologies to provide much greater application agility without the added overhead of expensive network hardware. It now enables application driven, multi-tenant cloud virtual networking across a completely distributed set of systems; decoupling from physical network infrastructure; and application level network SLAs. All built in as part of the platform. Enhancements and new features include:

  • Network virtualization with Virtual NICs (VNICs) and virtual switching
  • Network resource management, integrated QoS to enforce bandwidth limits on VNICs and traffic flows
  • Application driven, multi-tenant cloud virtual networking with Elastic Virtual Switch and VXLANs
  • Application level QoS with Application Driven SDN
  • Tight integration with Oracle Solaris Zones and Oracle Solaris 10 Zones
