Universidad de la Sabana saves big with Oracle Cloud
“Oracle is more of a strategic business ally, than a vendor. Oracle Cloud applications, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and the Oracle team of higher- education experts have helped us develop a fully digital campus, keep our operations running at optimal capacity, and create many competitive advantages.”
業務挑戰
Founded in 1979, Universidad de la Sabana counts about 10,000 undergraduate students. To give students a more personalized enrollment experience, and lower its costs, the university moved all its operations to digital, online processes—including mobile registration for its course offerings, class assignments, academic counseling, and job skills training programs.
Universidad de la Sabana calls this its digital campus. But the goal was barricaded by 80 different information systems, complex integration processes, different databases, multiple operating systems, and a costly on-premise data center.
If we hadn’t moved all of our business applications to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, if we hadn’t been able to pay for only what we use, we would’ve had to stop some operations when we had to shut down the campus during the COVID-19 closure. But Oracle helped us continue operating.
Why Universidad de la Sabana chose Oracle
The university chose a suite of Oracle’s PeopleSoft applications tailored for higher education, and it chose to run that on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s pay-for-use model brought significant savings, since the university could ramp up for two big bursts of demand for registrations, and ramp down at other times of the year.
成果
The university is paying 35% lower infrastructure costs compared with its on-premise data center, thanks to using a pay-for-use model in which it can easily ramp up and down with demand. The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure project has generated an internal rate of return (IRR) of 42%. Reliability has also improved. With its core operations running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in two US locations, Universidad de la Sabana’s availability has been 99.9%.
PeopleSoft applications running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure also give students a more personalized enrollment experience. With the university’s previous legacy systems infrastructure and applications, students wishing to enroll in a class had to do so manually and in person, which could take 20 minutes or more. Today, it takes less than two minutes for students to enroll in courses that match their interests and career objectives.
The university is also running Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Services, which helps school and department administrators complete their planning and budgeting forecasts in two months at the end of the school year, down from six to eight months using the previous systems.
