Compare OCI's Distributed Cloud Key Offerings

Choosing a distributed cloud platform is a strategic decision. The vendor must provide the flexibility to choose where and how cloud services are delivered. See how three of OCI’s key distributed cloud offerings deliver full functionality with a range of operational controls to help customers meet regulatory, performance, and other needs.

1. Oracle packaged apps, cloud native apps, industry apps, and third-party and custom apps.

2. Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing and Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse.

3. Select infrastructure services, including storage (block, file, and object), networking, load balancing, and integration with OCI hosted services such as identity and access management.

4. Optional support for SaaS Fusion apps (HCM, ERP, SCM, and CRM) and non-Fusion apps (enterprise performance management, warehouse management, transport management, IoT intelligent, and field service).

Deployment location and connectivity

3

1. Remains operational with a subset of functionality if disconnected from Oracle Cloud regions.

2. Database services will remain fully accessible if disconnected from Oracle Cloud regions.

3. As its own region, OCI Dedicated Region does not require a connection to an Oracle Cloud region to manage its infrastructure, services, APIs, or tooling and uses a local control plane for operations.

Scalability, expansion, and deployment time

Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer

Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer

OCI Dedicated Region

What is the scalability? 1–3 racks1 1–6 racks2 13–450 racks
Do compute and storage resources scale independently?

How does capacity monitoring and expansion work? Customers and Oracle monitor resource consumption. Customers request additional capacity.3
What is the deployment time?4 Several weeks Several weeks Several months5

1. First rack of Compute Cloud@Customer can have as few as 552 OCPUs and 150 TB of usable storage.

2. First rack of Exadata Cloud@Customer can have as few as two database servers and three storage servers.

3. For Compute Cloud@Customer, compute resources expand in increments of 552 OCPUs. Storage resources scale in increments of 175 TB. For Exadata Cloud@Customer, database servers and storage servers expand in increments of one server. For OCI Dedicated Region, compute resources and storage resources expand in increments of one rack.

4. Deployment time is defined as from ordering to go-live.

5. OCI Dedicated Region requires multiple racks of servers, storage, and networking to bring all 100-plus OCI services into customers’ data centers, hence the longer deployment time.
