In this walk-through you are a Trade Planner and you are preparing for a meeting with the customer ValueChain to review their promotional plan for the Beverage category.

You begin by reviewing the performance of past promotions to understand the most effective promotional price points and promotional activities.

You then check how you are tracking overall for the set of customers you are responsible for and, specifically, how ValueChoice is contributing to the overall plan.

Next you review the current plan for ValueChoice and you create a new promotion to propose to the customer.

Finally, you meet with ValueChoice. During the meeting you use your mobile device to review and update the plan.

Products

In this walk-through you will experience these Oracle Value Chain Planning products:

  • Demantra Predictive Trade Planning
  • Advanced Planning Command Center

Steps

Follow the steps below:

Reviewing Historical Promotions

Let's start by reviewing the performance of past promotions to understand the most effective promotional price points and promotional activities. We can then use what we learn as input to planning future promotions.

  1. Launch the Trade Analyst Dashboard from the EBS launch page. This is part of the Advanced Planning Command Center (APCC).
  2. Launch Trade Analyst Dashboard
  3. The Performance Overview tab on the Trade Analyst dashboard provides a graphical representation of the impact of historical promotions. It shows the base and incremental volume overlaid with the regular and promoted prices. This provides insight on the effect different price points have on volume.
  4. Performance Overview
  5. The Promotion Effectiveness tab on the Trade Analyst dashboard shows the impact that combined promotional tactics and price decreases have had in the past. We can use this information in our planning to determine the most effective combination of promotion tactics and price decreases.
  6. Promotion Effectiveness
  7. The Top/Bottom Performers tab on the Trade Analyst dashboard highlights the best and worst performing past promotions based on a number of Key Performance Indicators. We can use this information in our planning to run more of the better performing promotions and to eliminate repeating any of the poor performing promotions.
  8. Top/Bottom Performers
  9. The Promotion Detail tab on the Trade Analyst dashboard provides detail information about promotions.
  10. Promotion Detail
  11. The Lift Decomposition tab on the Trade Analyst dashboard highlights the overall impact that promotions have had. The chart breaks down the total promotional value into the following components:
    • Base Event Value - Base sales during the promotion. This represents the sales that would occur even if the promotion was not run.
    • Promotional Pre-Post Effect Value Forecast - Reduction in revenue before or after a promotion. Typically due to pantry loading or forward buy.
    • Promotional Cannibalization Value Forecast - Reduction in revenue to a non-promoted product as the result of a promotion.
    • Promotional Net Incremental Value Forecast - Promotional incremental value adjusted for cannibalization and pre-post effect.

Next let's see how we are tracking overall for the set of customers that we are responsible for and, specifically, how ValueChoice is contributing to the overall plan.

  1. Launch Demantra Collaborator Workbench from the EBS launch page or directly via the Demantra Collaborator Workbench URL. This activity uses the Demantra Predictive Trade Planning (PTP) product.

  9. The Trade Analyst Dashboard let's us see how we are tracking for the set of customers that we are responsible for.
We can see that we have an overspent situation with Goodway on the Brand Development Fund (BDF).
We can see that based on our current projected sales we are going to fall short of our quota for the year.
Based on the historical actuals and future projections, we are going to come in below quota for ValueChoice in the Beverage category.
Since we have funding available we should plan some additional promotions to increase future sales in order to meet quota.
  10. Trade Analyst Dashboard Worksheet
  11. Open the Promotion Planning Calendar from the Trade Analyst Dashboard as follows:
    1. Select ValueChoice in the Beverages section.
    2. Click on the Open icon on the toolbar for Retailer Retailer Open Icon or right-click on ValueChoice and select Open.

You can hover your mouse over promotions to see more detail.

  22. The Edit Population screen allows you to change the customers and products included in the promotion.
In this example, you must select one and only one Retailer and at least one Promotion Group. The other levels displayed are optional.
In this case we want to select:
    • Retailer = ValueChoice
    • Category = Beverages
    • Brand = Fizz
    • Promotion Group = Fizz 2 liter
When done click the Finish button.
  23. Edit Promotion Population dialog

Select the promotion in the calendar and then either:
Click on the Open With icon Open With Icon on the toolbar and select Promotion Effect or right-click on the promotion and select Open With => Promotion Effect.
  37. Promotion Open With from icon
    Promotion Open With from right-click
  38. The Promotion Lift Decomposition - Manufacturer View shows that this promotion will cannibalize (steal volume) from two other products in our portfolio (Fit 64oz and Fizz 20oz). It also shows a reduction in sales in the weeks before and after the promotion (Pre Post Sales).
    Lift Decomposition - Manufacturer View
The chart shows the Net Incremental Sales that the promotion will generate after adjusting for the cannibalization and pre-post effect.
    Lift Decomposition Chart
The Promotion Lift Decomposition - Retailer View expands on the Manufacturer View by including competitive products to evaluate the impact on the overall category. In addition to the cannibalization of the manufacturers own products and the pre-post effect on the product being promoted, this includes brand switching from competitive products.
    Lift Decomposition - Retailer View
Note: This analysis requires the availability of sales demand for competitive products.
  39. Since this looks like a good promotion to run, lets change the promotion status from unplanned to planned and specify how we are going to fund it.
  40. Return to the tab for the Promotion Planning Calendar.
  41. Enter the following information for the promotion using the table below the calendar:
