Key Resources

Maximum Skip Update Period Extended to Three Update Cycles

Starting with this update, you can use the skipUpdate EPM Automate command to skip the applying of monthly updates to an environment for a maximum of three consecutive cycles. Previously, you were permitted to skip only two consecutive update cycles.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: Increasing the number of skippable consecutive update cycles help you implement a quarterly test and update cadence for your environments.

Key Resources

Features

Announcements

Service administrators can create announcements to make users aware of present or future activities occurring in the system. Users can view announcements from the welcome panel on the Enterprise Data Management home page. Announcements are defined in rich text format, may include links to other web resources, and can be effective dated if necessary.

Business Benefit: Users can be notified of administrative activities which may affect system availability, result in changes to behavior, limit access to data, or restrict actions they can perform.

Key Resources

Attach Subscription Request Files to Email Notifications

Request files used to generate request items in subscription requests can be optionally included in email notifications which are sent to users whom the requests are assigned to. These files provide the recipient with a preview of the changes included in the subscription request and any changes which may have been skipped. A system setting is available to enable this functionality for all subscription request notifications.

Business Benefit:  Subscription request assignees can gain visibility to changes and potential issues in an offline manner at the time of notification.

Key Resources

CurrentProperty Object for Derived Properties in Expressions

A CurrentProperty object is available in expressions for derived properties to provide access to property metadata such as the Name and Description of a property. This allows the value of a derived property to be derived from one or both of these property parameters.

Business Benefit: Derived property values can be based on the name or description of the properties. For example, properties created for different hierarchy levels (Ancestor1, Ancestor2) can capture the level information from the name of the property rather than needing to specify a literal value in the expression.

Key Resources

  • CurrentProperty in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud

Data Chain Filter for Viewpoint Extracts Report

A Data Chain filter is available on the Viewpoint Extracts report to reduce the list of displayed extracts to those for a specific application or dimension. This filter can be used by itself or in conjunction with other report filters.

Business Benefit: The Data Chain filter enables users who have access to many extracts, or who are unsure of which viewpoints are used by certain extracts, to easily find the extracts they are looking for.

Key Resources

Email and Hyperlink Subtypes for String Properties

String data type properties can be configured with the Email or Hyperlink subtype to apply formatting restrictions to property values consisting of email addresses or URLs. Hyperlink property values are rendered as links in the Properties pane of an opened view to enable users to navigate to their associated web resources. Email and hyperlink property values can be inherited, derived, validated, and audited like any other string property.

Business Benefit: This feature enables email addresses and hyperlink property values to be managed for nodes in dimensions of one or more applications.

Key Resources

Extract Packages

Extract packages allow for multiple extracts from the same application to be grouped and run together in a single operation. Extract package files are bundled into a zip file for easy download or transfer to a global connection destination. The output from extracts in a package can be optionally combined into the same text file if desired. Owners and Metadata Managers for a dimension can create and manage extract packages in the Application inspector. Users with Data Manager or greater permission can run extract packages from the Extract screen on the Applications page.

Business Benefit: Users with Data Manager permission can run multiple extracts together as a group, combine their output, and download their files in an easier manner.

Key Resources

Financials Cloud General Ledger Integration Tasks Limited to Specific Trees and Tree Versions

Integration tasks executed in Oracle Financials Cloud General Ledger are now limited to only trees and tree versions exported from Enterprise Data Management. This restriction is applied to the Process Segment Values and Hierarchies task and the Publish Hierarchies to Cube task when these export options are enabled for dimensions in Enterprise Data Management.

Business Benefit: The processing time for downstream integration tasks in Oracle Financials Cloud General Ledger can be reduced in situations where only a subset of trees and tree versions for a given value set are being synchronized from Enterprise Data Management.

Key Resources

Home Page Layouts

Home page layouts provide the ability to customize the display of cards and clusters on the Enterprise Data Management home page and in the Navigator menu. The default layout includes an Information Model cluster which groups the Node Types, Hierarchy Sets, Node Sets, Properties, and Lookup Sets cards together. Service administrators can modify the default layout or copy an existing layout. Custom layouts can be restricted to a specific user group or role.

Business Benefit: The display of cards and clusters can be tailored to only those needed by specific users to improve their efficiency and reduce training required.

Key Resources

Identify Node Parent in Compare Results List

The Compare Viewpoints pane now includes parent information for compare results displayed in the list. This allows users to identify the parent of each compare result without having to select it and navigate to the node in the viewpoint. Parent information is only displayed for compare results from a hierarchy viewpoint.

Business Benefit: When comparing hierarchy viewpoints which use shared nodes, being able to view parent information from the compare results list enables users to determine which hierarchy branches have differences at a summary level.

Key Resources

Include Related Requests Option for Transaction History

When auditing transactions for a particular request, you can include transactions for all requests in the same lineage as specified request. An Include Related Requests option is available for the Request ID filter on Audit Transaction History screen to retrieve these related transactions. For subscription request transactions, the Source Request column in the transaction history table identifies the original request that produced the subscription request.

Business Benefit: In situations where changes in a source viewpoint are synchronized to several target viewpoints using subscriptions, all of the transactions resulting from the original request can be audited together.

Key Resources

Inspect and Promote from Viewpoint Queries List

The list of saved queries for a viewpoint in an opened view now provides the ability to directly inspect or promote a query. In previous releases, you could only inspect a query once it was selected and only promote a private query to public from the viewpoint inspector.

Business Benefit: Saved query details such as the name, description, or code can be easily modified for one or more queries in a view. Private queries can also be promoted after creation in a quicker manner.

Key Resources

IsValueAllowed Method for Node Data Type Properties in Expressions

An IsValueAllowed method is available for derived property expressions to determine whether a specified value exists in the associated node set and allowed node type(s) for a Node data type property. This method can be used to conditionally return a different derived value in cases where an initial value is not allowed for the property.

Business Benefit: Derived Node data type properties can now take into consideration whether a certain value is allowed to prevent returning an invalid value which may prohibit a request from being submitted.

Key Resources

  • CurrentProperty in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud

Manage Property Settings for Viewpoints Using Files

The settings and order of viewpoint properties can be loaded from an Excel file rather than needing to be manually configured in the user interface. Viewpoint property settings can also be downloaded to a file for reference purposes or to use as a starting point for making changes.

Business Benefit: In cases where a viewpoint has a large number of properties, it is more efficient to configure property settings and order properties by loading them from a file.

Key Resources

New Video

A new video is available:

Working with Viewpoint Loads

In this video, you learn how to use Viewpoint Loads to load data into viewpoints. You also learn the differences between Viewpoint Load and Import.

Business Benefit:  Videos provide 3-5 minute overviews and step-by step instructions to perform tasks and achieve an outcome.

Ownership Approvals

Approval policies can be configured with the Ownership approval method to invite approvers based on an ownership property defined for nodes in a viewpoint. The ownership property identifies the user who is responsible for approving a particular node. The users for ownership properties are chosen from a Users application and can be defined, inherited, or derived. A node can have multiple ownership properties to allow for more than one approver. Ownership property values can be manually maintained or loaded from a file and are secured and audited like any other node property.

Business Benefit: For viewpoints whose nodes have several different approvers, assigning approval responsibility at the node level can greatly reduce the complexity of conditional policy filters and/or the number of policies required.

Key Resources

Parent Transformation in Node Type Converters

Node type converters now offer the ability to transform the parent of a source node separately from the node name. The parent transformation runs on the source parent and is also used for the old parent in cases where the source node was moved to a different parent. Parent transformations can be used for children or descendants of nodes which are manually inserted across viewpoints, when creating request items from compare results, and when generating subscription request items.

Business Benefit: Transformations can be applied to source parent values using a separate expression instead of requiring conditional logic in the transform for the node name.

Key Resources

Policy Listing Report

A Policy Listing report provides a complete collection of workflow policies for all applications, dimensions, node types and hierarchy sets to easily identify which policies have been defined. Polices can be filtered by policy type, level, method, and user/group. You can inspect a policy from the report to view more details or make changes to the policy. Invalid policies are flagged in the report so they can be modified or disabled accordingly.

Business Benefit: Policy details are accessible in a report format across multiple applications, dimensions, node types, and hierarchy sets instead of individually in the Policy inspector.

Key Resources

Public Extracts for Integration Only

Public extracts can be configured with an Integration Only parameter to designate them for system integration purposes. Integration Only extracts may be run from the Applications page in the user interface as well as EPM Automate and the REST API. Extracts configured for integration only are hidden from the Viewpoint Extracts report on the Reports page.

Business Benefit: Public extracts used for system integration are not visible to business users who run extracts in the user interface.

Key Resources

  • Editing Extracts in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud

Repair Request Items in a Request

When separate subscription requests are generated for different viewpoints in a dimension, the same node may be added to multiple viewpoints which can result in a "node already exists" validation issue once one of the requests has completed. A Repair operation can be used for the other requests to resolve the validation issue by converting the Add action to an Insert action. All request items in a request which have this validation issue can be resolved in a single Repair operation.

Business Benefit: Users who encounter validation errors due to race conditions for multiple subscriptions can easily resolve those issues without the need to delete and recreate the request items in the subscription request.

Key Resources

  • Repairing a Request in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud

Rest API to Delete a Request

A REST API endpoint is available to delete a specified request. This endpoint can be used to eliminate draft, pushed back, or recalled requests in the Submit stage which are no longer necessary.

Business Benefit: Over time there can be a large number of requests which were never submitted or have become obsolete. An automated process can be used to query for those requests and delete them from an Enterprise Data Management environment.

Tips And Considerations

  • Delete a Request in REST API for Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud Service

Run Selected Validations for Nodes in a Viewpoint

When validating nodes in a viewpoint, you can select specific validations and constraints to run, or certain properties you want to validate. Validations can also be run for all nodes, a selected node and its descendants, or an individual selected node.

Business Benefit: Running selected validations for a limited set of nodes can greatly reduce the number of results returned and the processing time required.

Key Resources

Subfolder for Oracle Object Storage Connections and Extracts

Global connections for Oracle Object Storage provide a Subfolder parameter to enable extracts to write files to a subfolder in an Object Storage bucket. The Subfolder parameter can be overridden for individual extracts which need to write files to different subfolders. When writing to an Object Storage bucket, an extract will create the specified subfolder if it does not already exist.

Business Benefit: Extract files which are sent to an Oracle Object Storage bucket can be organized into subfolders when necessary.

Key Resources

Test Expressions in the Expression Builder

Expressions can be evaluated in the expression builder while being authored to ensure their logic works as expected. A Test Expression drawer is available in the expression builder where a viewpoint and node can be selected for evaluation. Expressions can be tested for any context including derived properties, calculated parents, property transformations, custom validations, policy filters, subscription filters, and extract filters. For expressions which can use the Request object, you can select an active request to use for evaluating the expression.

Business Benefit: Users with Owner or Metadata Manager permissions can test expressions at design time rather than run time resulting in a quicker setup and reduced cost of implementation.

Key Resources

  • Testing Expressions in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud

User Subtype for Node Data Type Properties

A User subtype is available for Node data type properties to associate nodes from a Users application to nodes in another application. This enables users to be assigned to nodes in viewpoints using one or more properties. Properties with the User subtype can be used in conjunction with approval policies using the Ownership approval method as well as other scenarios where a user-to-node relationship is required.

Business Benefit: Users can be directly related to nodes in viewpoints of one or more applications where necessary. For example, the Preparer and Reviewer properties for profiles in Oracle EPM Cloud Account Reconciliation applications.

Key Resources

Users Application Type

A new application type is available to manage a common set of enterprise users who can be associated with nodes of other applications in Enterprise Data Management. A Users application includes the User and User Rollup node type classes which provide a predefined set of properties to manage basic user attributes and allow for users to be organized into one or more hierarchies. Nodes in a Users application can be directly referenced by any other application, do not need to be synchronized using subscriptions, and are excluded from the record count.

Business Benefit: Enterprise users can be organized into one or more viewpoints and cross-referenced by multiple applications and dimensions resulting in improved maintenance and less configuration.

IMPORTANT Actions and Considerations

One-Week Lag Between Readiness Documents Live and Help Center Live

Because Oracle readiness documents (What's New and New Feature Summary) are live one week before the monthly update is applied to Test environments, some links to documentation included in the readiness documents will not work until after the Oracle Help Center update is complete when the monthly update is applied to Test environments.

This update includes Important Actions and Considerations for:

  • EPM Cloud Platform

EPM CLOUD PLATFORM

New IP Allowlists and Changes to Current Allowlists to Take Effect only After the Next Daily Maintenance

Because of a planned change to the back-end servers in an upcoming update, changes made to the current IP allowlist settings and new allowlists configured for your service will become active only after the next daily maintenance window is complete. To activate these updates immediately, you can use the runDailyMaintenance EPM Automate command to trigger a daily maintenance of the service.

Plan to Discontinue Support for Non-Redwood Experience Themes

Oracle's Redwood UX Design is helping organizations improve user productivity, reduce training costs, and increase user satisfaction. As such, it has gained wide adoption across our Oracle Cloud user base.

Within Cloud EPM the Redwood Theme has had significant adoption, and major new platform innovations over the past few years have primarily been released only within the Redwood theme.

Going forward, future innovations in Cloud EPM and Redwood UX Design patterns are likewise targeted to be available within the Redwood theme only. Customers are encouraged to deploy their applications using Redwood theme only.

Customers are encouraged to watch the Cloud Customer Connect session in April 2023: EPM – Why You Should Be Using The Redwood Theme in EPM Cloud

This session covers why users should be adopting the Redwood theme, customizations available within the theme (such as company logo), and the future plans around non-Redwood themes for Cloud EPM.

Effective during the first quarter of 2024 (subject to change, safe harbor applies), the Redwood Experience will offer a default Oracle theme and these two additional appearance options: Custom Light and Custom Dark. Appearances of all EPM Cloud environments that currently use the Redwood Experience will automatically be shifted to either the default Oracle theme or the Custom Dark theme based on currently deployed background appearance of these environments.

Environments that have not deployed Redwood Experience will not currently be impacted by this change. In an update planned for the second quarter of 2024, Oracle will automatically migrate these environments to use the Redwood Experience.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Transition from Identity Cloud Service (IDCS) to Identity and Access Management (IAM)

EPM Cloud environments on OCI (Gen 2) are transitioning from Identity Cloud Service (IDCS) to Identity and Access Management (IAM) domains. For information on IAM, see Overview of Identity and Access Management.

After this transition, existing IDCS administration and My Profile functionalities remain the same, but are hosted on Oracle Cloud Console. The Oracle Cloud sign-in page has an updated design to match the latest Oracle Cloud design guidelines. To learn more on what to expect with this transition, see Introducing OCI IAM Identity Domains: What customers need to know.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting
