OCI Migration: Oracle-Managed Migration Notifications Being Sent and Customer-Managed Migration Program Ends on April 30, 2023

One of Oracle's latest advancements, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), is the foundation of Oracle's second generation cloud. OCI, a purpose-built, best-in-class platform for running enterprise applications, is engineered from the ground up to run mission-critical databases, workloads, and applications while providing end-to-end security. Oracle's data centers around the globe are standardizing on the new OCI architecture which will deliver even greater performance and reliability. There are a lot of EPM Cloud features that are available only in OCI. See Features Available only in OCI EPM Cloud Environments in Getting Started with Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud for Administrators.

Over time, Oracle plans to migrate EPM Cloud environments currently hosted in Classic commercial data centers to OCI. Two migration options are available:

Oracle has started sending notifications for Oracle-managed migrations. When your environments are scheduled for migration, you will get notification specifying the migration schedule. Follow the instructions in the notification.

If you plan to use customer-managed migration, you should start this process as soon as possible. Customer-managed migration program is available until April 30, 2023. Oracle will not accept any service request for customer-managed migration starting May 1, 2023.

NOTE: At this time, the environments hosted in US-Gov and UK-Gov data centers are not eligible for migration to OCI.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: OCI provides you a purpose-built, best-in-class platform that is engineered from the ground up to run mission-critical databases, workloads, and business processes while providing end-to-end security. This new architecture delivers greater performance and reliability, and a number of EPM Cloud features that are not available in Classic EPM Cloud.

Updates to the Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud Operations Guide

The Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud Operations Guide now contains instructions for requesting an increase in the governor limits for Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management and Enterprise Data Management business processes. Additionally, important information about how the Oracle-managed migration process handles Classic domain names that contain the hyphen character has been added to the guide.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: These instructions help you understand the process involved in requesting Oracle to increase the default artifact and dimension governor limits in the Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management and Enterprise Data Management business processes.

The new information about Classic domain names containing the hyphen character helps you understand the changes you may have to make to your REST API scripts after OCI migration.

EPM Automate Updates

A new version of EPM Automate is now available. This version introduces the getIdleSessionTimeout and setIdleSessionTimeout commands for managing the idle session timeout for EPM Cloud environments and makes the deployTaskManagerTemplate command applicable to Tax Reporting. Additionally, the assignRole and unassignRole commands have been updated to allow users assigned to the Service Administrator role only to run them in OCI environments. This version also enables users assigned the combination of Power User predefined role and Migration Administrator application role to run migration related commands such as copyFileFromInstance, copySnapshotFromInstance, deleteFile, downloadFile, exportSnapshot, importSnapshot, listBackups, listFiles, renameSnapshot, restoreBackup, and uploadFile on Profitability and Cost Management environments.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

getIdleSessionTimeout Command

This command displays the idle session timeout (in minutes) of the Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud environment. After a session is idle for this duration, users are redirected to the Login page.

setIdleSessionTimeout Command

Changes the session timeout (in minutes) of the Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud environment. The default idle session timeout is 75 minutes. You can set a minimum of 15 minutes and maximum of 150 minutes as the idle session timeout value. The new session timeout becomes active after the next daily maintenance of the environment. After a session is idle for the duration specified using this command, the user is redirected to the Login page.

deployTaskManagerTemplate Command Works with Tax Reporting

The deployTaskManagerTemplate command deploys tasks from a Task Manager template into a task schedule ensuring consistent execution of repetitive business processes. Previously, this command was documented as available only for Financial Consolidation and Close.

Changes to Role Required to Run assignRole and unassignRole Commands in OCI Environments

Starting with this update, users assigned to the Service Administrator role only can assign and unassign predefined roles in OCI environments. Previously, to successfully run these commands, users were required to have a combination of Identity Domain Administrator and service Administrator roles.

Users with a Combination of Power User Predefined Role and Migration Administrator Application Role Able to Run Migration-related Commands on Profitability and Cost Management Environments

These commands can now be run by users assigned to a combination of Power User predefined role and Migration Administrator application role in Profitability and Cost Management: copyFileFromInstance, copySnapshotFromInstance, deleteFile, downloadFile, exportSnapshot, importSnapshot, listBackups, listFiles, renameSnapshot, restoreBackup, and uploadFile. Previously, to successfully run these commands, users were required to have the Service Administrator role.

Business Benefit: The getIdleSessionTimeout and setIdleSessionTimeout commands enable you to enforce corporate policies for session timeouts to increase security.  Changes to the role requirements for running the assignRole and unassignRole commands bring it in line with the role requirements for these activities in the IDCS Console. Changes to the role requirements for running Migration-related commands in Profitability and Cost Management business process allow Service Administrators to delegate the backing up and restoring of application artifacts to Power Users.

Assigning and Unassigning Predefined Roles Using REST APIs in OCI Environments Requires Only the Service Administrator Role

Assigning and unassigning predefined roles using REST APIs in an OCI Environment now requires a user with only the Service Administrator role. Previously, the user issuing these REST APIs in an OCI environment required the Identity Domain Administrator role in addition to the Service Administrator role.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: This behavior matches the requirements for assigning and unassigning predefined roles in My Services UI in Classic environments and IDCS UI and REST API in OCI environments.

Key Resources

New Idle Session Timeout Migration REST APIs

New Set Idle Session Timeout and Get Idle Session Timeout REST APIs are available to set and get the idle session timeout of EPM Cloud environments. The default idle session timeout is 75 minutes. Using the Set Idle Session Timeout API, you can set a minimum of 15 minutes to a maximum of 150 minutes as the idle session timeout value. After a session is idle for the duration specified using this API, the user is redirected to the Login page. The Get Idle Session Timeout API displays the idle session timeout of the EPM Cloud environment.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Data Management, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Narrative Reporting, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: These APIs enable you to enforce corporate policies for session timeouts to increase security.

Key Resources

Starting Certain Scheduled Jobs Disallowed During the Daily Maintenance Process

To prevent automatic backup from failure due to scheduled jobs, EPM Cloud will disallow certain scheduled jobs to start while the daily maintenance process is running.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

The following jobs are prevented from starting during the daily maintenance:

  • Import Data
  • Import Metadata
  • Export Data
  • Export Metadata
  • Refresh Database
  • Clear Cube
  • Restructure Cube
  • Compact Outline
  • Merge Data Slices
  • Optimize Aggregation

If the system prevents a job from starting, the reason will be stated in the Job Details. If you've enabled email notifications for the Job Console, you'll receive an email notification when a job does not start. If you have a job that is scheduled to start during the daily maintenance process, it is recommended that you reschedule your job to start outside of the daily maintenance window.

Business Benefit: Prevents automatic backup failures due to scheduled jobs.

Key Resources

Valid Intersection and Cell-Level Security Definitions Allow Exclusion of Shared Members

When creating rules for valid intersection and cell-level security definitions, you can now exclude all instances of a member from both the base hierarchy and from the alternate hierarchies.

Applies to:  Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

When selecting members for valid (or invalid) intersections and cell-level security rule definitions, a new menu option, Exclude All, is available. Selecting Exclude All excludes members by name. If a base member is specified, then the base and all of its shared members will be excluded. If a shared member is specified, then this member, its base member, and all other shared members of this member will be excluded.

The existing menu option has been renamed from Add Exclusion to Exclude. The behavior for Exclude has not changed; selecting this option excludes members by ID. Only the specified members (base or shared) will be excluded.

You can select Remove Exclude or Remove Exclude All to remove an exclusion.

Also, when exporting valid intersection or cell-level security definitions, a new Exclusion All column has been added to the Sub Rules sheet for each dimension included in the definition.

Business Benefit: The ability to exclude members from all hierarchies gives you more flexibility in valid intersection and cell-level security definitions.

Audit Will Now Retain Records for Up to 365 Days

Audit records older than 365 days will now be automatically purged. Purged audit records will not be stored or accessible.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Tax Reporting

To prepare for this change, we recommend that you set up a scheduled audit export and backup automation. These are the options for exporting historical audit data:

  1. Export: Select the Export option on the Actions menu from the Audit card by selecting the appropriate filters like Start Date and End Date.
  1. EPM Automate command and script: Use the exportAppAudit command. See exportAppAudit in Working with EPM Automate for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud. Use the Windows or Linux scripts to automate the process of exporting and archiving application audit data to a local computer. See Automate the Archiving of Application Audit Records in Working with EPM Automate for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud.
  1. REST API for Export Audit: Exports the audit records to a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file that can be downloaded. See Export Audit in REST API for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud.

Submit a service request if you encounter problems backing up historical audit data.

NOTE: Automatic Audit purge will happen to all environments except for legacy environments with creation dates prior to July 17, 2020. In a future release this exception will also be removed, so we recommend that you take Audit Backups at regular intervals.

Business Benefit: This new capability automatically deletes old audit records from the application, thus improving the application performance by reducing daily maintenance time and import/export of the application backups.

Data Management Feature Replacement by Data Integration

Data Integration is the next generation of the Data Management user interface, enabling users to easily build and manage Cloud EPM integrations. As feature parity between Data Integration and Data Management becomes complete, Data Management features will be turned off, and users will use the new Data Integration user interface instead. Integration definitions built with Data Management are also visible in Data Integration, which enables an easy transition. (Data Integration is a new UI on the Data Management data model and does not require migration of content from Data Management to Data Integration).

This will be a gradual process; future What's New documents will include information about the first set of planned changes as well as updates about additional changes planned for the future.

All Data Integration features discussed in this document are currently generally available in the Cloud EPM business processes.

Applies to: Account Reconciliation, Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Planning Modules, Profitability and Cost Management, Tax Reporting

Starting with the July (23.07) update, the following features will no longer be available in Data Management, but will be available in Data Integration.  Data Integration is available from the Data Exchange card from the home screen in the Cloud EPM Business Process, and users can access these features in the current Cloud EPM update.

Integration definitions built with Data Management are visible in Data Integration which enables an easy transition. (Data Integration is a new UI on the Data Management data model).  Please note that additional new integration features will only be included in Data Integration, and will not be back-ported to Data Management. Critical bug fixes and security fixes will still be made to Data Management until all features are fully migrated.  In addition, all features from Data Management will be migrated to Data Integration with the exception of the following:

  • The batch feature will be replaced by the new Pipeline feature.  The Pipeline feature should be available sometime in CY23. (Safe Harbor applies.)
  • The Report Definition feature will not be migrated, only the Report Execution feature.  Please note that Account Reconciliation and Financial Consolidation and Close provide a feature to report against the Data Integration relational tables using a custom SQL and a BI Publisher report template.

For reference, please see the Data Integration guide available from the documentation library for your specific EPM business process. Select the desired business process, then Books, and then scroll down to the Administering Data Integration for Oracle Enterprise Performance Management Cloud documentation link.

Business Benefit: Data Integration is the next generation of the Data Management user interface. It enables users to more easily build and manage Cloud EPM integrations.

Key Resources

Shared Reports and Shared Objects Support in the Cloud EPM Platform

Shared reports and objects, which were introduced in Narrative Reporting in the November 2022 (22.09) update, are now supported in Reports in the Cloud EPM Platform.

Shared reports are a new artifact type that designates all report objects (Grids, Charts, Text boxes, and Images) in the shared report as shared objects. Shared objects can be inserted into other Reports, providing a single point of maintenance for the inserted objects within the Shared Report. If a shared object is updated in its source shared report, all the subscribing reports that contain the shared object will be automatically updated.

NOTE: Financial Reporting saved object migration is not supported in the this release in the Cloud EPM Platform; support is planned for an upcoming release.

Applies to: Enterprise Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidation and Close, FreeForm, Planning, Planning Modules, Tax Reporting

Business Benefit: This feature provides you a single point of maintenance for the inserted objects within the Shared Report.

Key Resources

Account Reconciliation

New REST API to Unmatch Transactions in Transaction Matching

Matched transactions for a specified Match Type can be unmatched using a REST API. The input parameters include the Match Type ID and one or more Match IDs that are associated with the Match Type.

Business Benefit: This feature enables you to automate the process of unmatching transactions in Transaction Matching.

Key Resources

Change in Default Value of Target Dimension Class When Loading Transaction Mapping Transactions Data Using Data Management

When you use Data Management to create a Transaction Matching target application, all dimensions, except the Reconciliation ID dimension, are assigned to the Attribute target dimension class and are mapped to the columns ATTR1, ATTR2, ATTR3, and so on. Dimensions whose values need to be transformed during data load can be mapped to UD (user-defined) columns.

There is no change in the assignment of the Reconciliation ID dimension, it continues to be assigned to the Generic target dimension class and is mapped to the “Account” (Reconciliation ID) target dimension class.

Business Benefit: This change provides improved efficiency when processing Transaction Matching data loads. It also results in ease of use because, in most cases, users will need to create a lower number of mapping rules.

Enterprise Data Management

Add Submitters of Original Requests as Collaborators to Consolidation Requests

When requests are consolidated, the submitters of the original requests can be automatically added as collaborators to the consolidation request.  This option is available at the time of consolidating requests to enable the request owners to contribute to a consolidation request, track its progress, and reference its details.  The collaborators are notified about the consolidation request to take further action if necessary.

Business Benefit: Submitters of requests which are consolidated together need the ability to track the progress of their proposed changes, as well as make further edits, or add comments and attachments after consolidation.

Key Resources

Compare Profiles for Views

Saved compare profiles can be defined between viewpoints in views and run by any user of the view.  This allows for recurring comparisons to be done quickly by predefining the comparison parameters in a reusable profile.   Saved compares can also be filtered using a node expression to reduce the compare results to nodes with specific characteristics.

Business Benefit: Comparisons which are done repeatedly can be saved in a profile for easy use and shared with other users of a view.

Key Resources

Download Files from Export and Extract History

Files created from previous exports and extracts are available for download from export and extract history in the user interface.  This provides users access to export and extract files from operations run in the past by them or another user.  Files to connections or the staging area are not included.

Business Benefit: In certain cases, it is helpful to access files created from past export or extract operations.  This may be necessary when operations are run from the user interface and the browser session ends, or to compare export/extract results to previous output files.

Key Resources

  • Exporting Dimensions in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud
  • Running Extracts in Administering and Working with Oracle Enterprise Data Management Cloud

Excel and ZIP File Support for Viewpoint Load

Viewpoint loads support the use of XLSX and ZIP files as data sources in addition to the previously available CSV format.  In XLSX formats, data for each viewpoint is setup on a different worksheet.  In ZIP formats, data for each viewpoint is defined in a different text file in the compressed file.

Business Benefit: Viewpoint loads can be performed using several different source file formats to make it easier to load data into viewpoints.  For example, XLSX files created from a viewpoint download can be modified and immediately reloaded into a viewpoint.  Also, ZIP files created from a source viewpoint extract could be directly loaded into a target viewpoint.

Key Resources

External System Type for Universal Applications

Universal applications can be configured with an External System Type to provide more details on the external system being supported.  This is useful in situations where a variety of different external business systems are being managed using the Universal application type.  Users can view and configure this information on the Applications page and in the Application inspector for universal applications.

Business Benefit: When several universal applications exist in an Enterprise Data Management environment, it is beneficial to provide more details regarding the external system type that is being managed by each universal application.  This information can be used to differentiate applications and eliminate any user confusion.

Key Resources

Merge Mode for Viewpoint Load

A Merge mode is available for viewpoint loads to process incremental changes in the form of request items in a Load request.  This allows the changes from the viewpoint load to be validated, approved, committed, and recorded in transaction history.  Load requests are available in request activity and are accessible in expressions.  Viewpoint loads can be run in merge mode from the user interface or using the REST API.

Business Benefit: For recurring viewpoint loads, it is desirable to incrementally apply changes from the load source in a request form rather than just replacing the data in the viewpoint.

Key Resources

Node ID Properties in Numeric String Format

Additional Node ID properties are available for nodes to provide automatically generated unique identifiers for data records in external systems. These properties are hash values of the Node ID (UUID) property in 32-bit or 64-bit numeric string format.  These properties can be added to node types, viewpoints, bindings, and extracts as needed.

Business Benefit: Some business applications require static, numeric identifiers to use as primary or surrogate keys for data records.  An example is the Display Code field for Oracle Financial Services Analytical Applications (OFSAA).

Key Resources

Node Selector Option to Display Other Properties

When inserting or moving a node in a viewpoint, you can choose to display different properties for nodes in the node selector dialog.   A Show Node Property option is available to select any property configured with As Column in the viewpoint.  Searches performed in the node selector remain limited to the core Name and Description properties.

Business Benefit: Users who are inserting and moving nodes sometimes need the ability to view nodes by a different property to ensure they are selecting the proper nodes.   For example, in a Planning viewpoint, you may want to view nodes using a particular Alias property.

Key Resources

Notify on Status Change Option for Policies

Notification policies can be setup to notify policy users when the status of a request changes to In Flight or Completed.  Previously, users were only notified when a request reached completed status.  Now, policy users can also be notified of a request at the time of submission to enable the users to gain visibility to requests earlier in the workflow process.

Business Benefit: Users who do not participate in approving or committing requests may still want to be aware of in-flight requests for data they maintain or consume.

Key Resources

Replay Subscriptions for Completed Requests

In rare cases, a subscription may fail to process because of a bad configuration such as a missing subscription assignee.  Once the configuration issue has been resolved, a Replay Subscription action is available for completed requests to reprocess any failed subscriptions for that request to ensure those changes are synchronized to the appropriate targets.  You have the option of disabling auto-submit for any subscription requests resulting from the replay to allow their contents to be reviewed prior to submission.

Business Benefit: Service Administrators need a way to reprocess subscriptions which did not previously run for a completed request to ensure data consistency between source and target viewpoints.

Key Resources

REST API to Assign Requests

A REST API endpoint is available to assign an existing request in the Submit stage to a different user to allow them to take further action.  This API can be used by an automated process which creates Interactive requests or generates Import/Load requests which are not submitted.

Business Benefit:  Some integration processes need to conditionally assign requests to specific users in exceptional cases.

Key Resources

Run Viewpoint Extracts from Reports Page

Viewpoint extracts for all views are available on the Reports page and can be easily run from there by users with at least Participant permission and Read data access to the viewpoint.

Business Benefit: Users who can browse viewpoint data may also want the ability to run extracts for those same viewpoints.  For example, a user of the Entity viewpoint also wants access to the results of an incremental extract for the Entity viewpoint.

Key Resources

Run Viewpoint Loads in an Open View

A viewpoint load can be performed while browsing an open view as an alternative to initiating the load process from the Applications page.  This provides an efficient way to load data into a viewpoint when you are already browsing data for it in an open view.  You can immediately return to the viewpoint in the open view to see the results of the load operation.  A Load menu item is available in the viewpoint tab menu to perform the viewpoint load.

Business Benefit: Data managers need to efficiently load data into viewpoints from external files while already in the act of browsing the viewpoint data.

Key Resources

Sequence Properties

Sequence properties offer the ability to populate a node property value with an automatically generated, incrementing sequence number.  Sequence properties can be configured at the application level.  Nodes using sequence properties will get a value assigned when a node is added to a viewpoint.  For nodes which already exist in the viewpoint, a sequence number will be assigned the next time the node is updated.  Sequence property values can be overridden by a user-defined value.  You can also clear the current node property value to get the next value in the sequence.

Business Benefit: Some enterprise data records need attributes which are based on sequential values which can be auto-generated or user-defined.  Examples include a record ID in a data warehouse dimension table or a suggested node name for new nodes in a Project dimension.

Key Resources

Subscription Handling for Inserts When Added Node Is Excluded

Subscriptions configured with a node expression filter may exclude an added node under a certain parent but include inserts for the same node under other parents in a hierarchy viewpoint.  In this situation, one of the Inserts will be converted to an Add action to ensure proper synchronization of the node to the target viewpoint by the subscription.

Business Benefit: In situations where a node is placed under multiple parents in a source viewpoint and a subscription node expression filter is used, a node may need to be added to the target viewpoint rather than being inserted in cases where the node does not already exist.

Time Labels

Time labels enable you to create point-in-time snapshots of your data for comparison, reporting, and analysis purposes.  A time label can be setup as a Fixed date and time in the past or a Rolling period of time based on the calendar year.  Time labels are created at the view level to allow different groupings of enterprise data to share common time periods of interest.  Rolling time labels can represent the end of a prior month, quarter, or year.

Business Benefit: Organizations need access to previous versions of their enterprise data to understand how the data has changed over time and to satisfy governance and audit requirements.

Key Resources

Time Labeled Viewpoints

Time labeled viewpoints can be used to access data in node sets as of a historical point in time.  Each time labeled viewpoint uses a single time label which can remain static or be changed on a routine basis.  Data in the time labeled viewpoint can be browsed, searched, and extracted as well as compared to other viewpoints in the view.

Business Benefit: Different data sets may require referencing different time periods in the past.  For example, Entity data may need to be compared to history on a quarterly basis while Cost Center users may want a snapshot of how the hierarchy was structured prior to a recent reorganization.

Key Resources

Workflow Column Set for Request Activity

Additional workflow information for requests can be displayed on the Requests page using the Select Column Set option.  The Workflow column set provides columns identifying the invitees, approvers, and committers of the requests displayed in request activity.  The All option displays all columns at the same time for larger screen sizes.

Business Benefit: Some users desire the ability to view the invitees, approvers, or committers for requests displayed in request activity to assess their progress and take further action if necessary.

Calculation Manager Rule Validation Warnings

A new script validator is available for Calculation Manager diagnostics that can identify potential performance issues in Financial Consolidation and Close Configurable Calculations or On-Demand rules. The validator provides warnings and suggestions that you can review and implement.

The rule validation warnings are also available in the Recommendations module. Warnings are only displayed for deployed rules. You can download all the recommendations by clicking Export.

Business Benefit: Implementing the script validator recommendations can help Configurable Calculations or On-Demand rules run faster and with fewer errors.

Key Resources

Metadata Validation Enhancements

The Metadata Validation process has been enhanced with new validations. The system now checks for these conditions:

  • Under FCCS_OpeningBalance, the aggregation operator is always Addition
  • The FCCS_OpeningBalance member is not shared in the Closing Balance Hierarchy
  • Each Entity has a corresponding S_member in the Data Source dimension (when Ownership Management is enabled)
  • Children of a Parent member with the Label Only data storage property do not aggregate (for Account, Movement and Data Source dimensions only)
  • The data storage property is correct for Level Zero Intercompany dimension members

Business Benefit: The metadata validation warnings alert you to potential issues with aggregation operators, data storage properties, and other issues that may impact performance.

Key Resources

Data Discovery Enhancements

When you run Data Discovery, the Notes output file will now contain the results of a check for Intercompany Account and Plug Account attributes in an Elimination scenario. The Notes file also contains Metadata Validation errors in the Observation section and displays a Metadata Validation error count in the Metadata section.

Business Benefit: The Data Discovery process now contains additional information about Intercompany and Plug Account attributes and Metadata Validation errors that help you diagnose and resolve potential calculation issues.

Key Resources

Journal Validations for Unposting Journals

The journal validation process has been enhanced to remove the validation for invalid intersections when unposting journals.

Business Benefit: Removing unnecessary validation steps improves the time it takes to unpost journals.

Key Resources

Retaining Order of Seeded Members After an Update

When you perform a content update, if you have moved or reordered seeded members, the customized order of member dimensions will now be retained. To retain your customized dimension order, you must add a substitution variable named isExportDimEnabled and set the value to True.

Business Benefit: When the customized dimension order is retained, you no longer need to manually reorder the seeded members after each update or Enable Features process.

Key Resources

Performance Substitution Variables

The OptimizeConcurrency, OptimizePelimCalculation, EnableYearlyConsol, ParallelCustomDimDSO, and ParallelCustomDimTranslation substitution variables can be enabled to improve performance.

OptimizeConcurrency = True

This substitution variable improves concurrency of the consolidation process by executing some of the calculations at the very beginning or at the end. The degree of improvement depends on the entity structure of a given customer. Customers with deeper entity hierarchies will benefit the most.

OptimizePelimCalculation= True

This substitution variable improves Partner Eliminations (PElim) performance. If there is a consolidation performance degradation when deploying a user-created “Partner Eliminations Configurable Consolidation Rule” that has an account re-direction, adding this variable can provide significant performance improvement.

EnableYearlyConsol = True

The EnableYearlyConsol substitution variable can be enabled to improve performance for multi-period consolidations in applications that use the Dense/Sparse Optimization option (where Period and Movement are the Dense dimensions).

This substitution variable is applicable if the application meets all of these conditions:

  • The application uses the Dense/Sparse Optimization option (Period and Movement are Dense dimensions)
  • You have two or more dirty periods, and two or more hierarchy levels
  • The dirty entities are identical across periods
  • Equity Pickup sequence is not enabled

ParallelCustomDimDSO = True

This substitution variable improves the performance of the consolidation process in applications with Dense/Sparse Optimization, where the Period and Movement dimensions are Dense dimensions. To see performance improvements, you should set this substitution variable to True.

ParallelCustomDimTranslation = True

This substitution variable can improve the performance of the consolidation process in applications with Dense/Sparse Optimization, where the Period and Movement dimensions are Dense dimensions. To see performance improvements, you should set this substitution variable to True. If any degradation is noticed, you should delete this variable.

Business Benefit: These substitution variables help in improving consolidation performance.

NOTE: The degree of performance improvement varies widely across different applications as it is purely driven by the application design and data distribution.

Skip Property is Editable for the Account Dimension in Financials

The Skip property is now editable for the Account dimension in Financials.

When an account has a Time Balance property First, Balance, or Average, you can specify how database calculations treat zeros and missing values with the Skip options.

Business Benefit: The ability to edit the Skip property gives you more flexibility in determining how summary time period values are calculated. For example, in Balance Sheet accounts, the Time Balance property is Balance, which uses the Ending value in a summary time period as the period total. In a situation where you have an empty value for June (the ending value in Q2), previously, there would be no value for Q2.  Now you have the option to edit the Skip property, for example to Missing, in which case Q2 would take the value of May.

Tips And Considerations

  • The value for Skip is now stored with the member artifact, so the modified property is tracked with a member and available for restoring with the properties of a modified member.
  • This feature is applicable only to the Financials module. It is not available in the other modules.

New Options for Running Data Maps in Scenario Rollups in Strategic Modeling

There are several enhancements for running data maps in scenario rollups in Strategic Modeling:

  • In Scenario Rollups, the option to select Run and Push Data from the Run menu is no longer available. Now, when you select Run, a new, simplified dialog box displays: Run Rollup and Data Maps.

    Run Rollup and Data Maps

For each business case in a scenario rollup, you can select whether to run the data maps to Refresh data or to Publish data. (Note that Strategic Modeling always runs Before phase and After phase data maps that are associated with the business case in the scenario rollup.)
    • The Refresh option replaces the check box Run the data maps from external sources before scenario rollup. Refresh data maps bring data into scenario rollups from outside sources, such as a Planning cube or Strategic Modeling models that are not part of the rollup. They are run before the scenario rollup if you select the Refresh option for the business case in Run Rollup and Data Maps.
    • The Publish option replaces Final phase data maps. Publish data maps push final rolled up data to external targets after a scenario rollup is complete if you select the Publish option for the business case in Run Rollup and Data Maps.
  • Scenario rollups now run in two passes. You see this reflected in the logs for the job.
  • The Set Data Maps page is updated with Refresh and Publish columns:

    Set Data Maps

Business Benefits:

  • The new Run Rollup and Data Maps dialog box is simpler and gives you more flexibility by allowing you to select whether to run the data maps to Refresh and/or to Publish data for a business case in a scenario rollup.
  • Running scenario rollups in two passes allows you to define data maps that push data back down the rollup tree to child nodes, which is useful, for example, when you’d like to allocate data from a parent model to the children during the rollup.

Tips And Considerations

The first time you open a scenario rollup after applying this update (23.03), you see an Information box that lists the Before phase data maps that were migrated to the Refresh phase and the After phase data maps that were migrated to the Publish phase. After phase maps that pushed data both within and outside the rollup will be migrated to the Publish phase and will not push data within the rollup.

Calculation Manager Errors and Warnings Enforcement

In a future update, Calculation Manager will enforce the execution of the Errors & Warnings diagnostic tool for any rule being launched, validated, or deployed from it. If there are errors that result from this new process, Calculation Manager will not execute, validate, or deploy the rule. This new process will apply to all new applications once released. Existing applications will have a finite period of time to bypass this new process to allow you to modify the rules that violate the new Errors & Warnings diagnostic analysis. In all cases, existing rules that are already deployed will continue to run as-is without any change in behavior.

Applies to: Financial Consolidation and Close, Planning, Planning Modules

Change in Behavior for Grids Created from Groovy and REST APIs for ASO Cubes

In a future update, the suppression behavior for grids created via Groovy DataGridDefinitionBuilder and the exportdataslice REST API for ASO cubes will be made consistent with that of the run time data grids created using the Form Designer. Previously, if a grid was built for an ASO cube in Groovy or REST API, then the system used the NON EMPTY MDX clause to suppress missing rows when the suppressMissingBlocks flag was true. Now, when a grid is built for an ASO cube, it will use the NON EMPTY MDX clause when suppressMissingRows is true, and suppressMissingBlocks will be ignored. This means that ASO grids with suppressMissingRows true and suppressMissingBlocks false will now start using MDX. Likewise, ASO grids with suppressMissingRows false and suppressMissingBlocks true will no longer use MDX. Grids where the suppressMissingRows and suppressMissingBlocks flags had the same value will not be impacted. These changes may result in a change in behavior or performance for some ASO grids. If this happens and is undesirable, consider toggling the value of suppressMissingRows from the builder or the JSON payload in case of the REST API.

Internet Explorer 11 End of Support and Smart View

Microsoft announced end of support of Internet Explorer 11 by June 15, 2022.

Do not uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer, even after the end-of support date of June 15, 2022. Instead, you may securely disable Internet Explorer following Microsoft’s guidelines. In situations where the Internet Explorer browser would be called, the Edge browser will be launched instead.

Oracle Smart View for Office does not require the Internet Explorer browser specifically. However, Smart View depends on Windows components (for example, WinInet APIs) that may have dependencies on Internet Explorer. Microsoft recommends keeping Internet Explorer installed on the machine since uninstalling may cause other applications that are dependent on it to work incorrectly. Microsoft also recommends updating to the latest security patches as they become available.

For more information, Oracle Support Document 2877741.1 (Impact on Smart view with Microsoft decommissioning Internet Explorer 11 on June 15, 2022) can be found at: https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?id=2877741.1

To improve security in Office Add-ins, Microsoft Office 365 has made changes to its ExecuteFunction add-in command from October 30, 2022. Since Smart View for Office (Mac and Browser) uses this command in its ribbon buttons and menus, some buttons may stop working from October 30. For example, buttons such as Undo, Redo, or Refresh on the Smart View and provider ribbons. This issue is resolved in the latest Smart View update of 22.11. As the changes are limited to server update, you are not required to create and deploy a new manifest file again for resolving this issue.

Reports Change in Behavior for Conditional Suppression

In the upcoming April (23.04) update, there will be a change in the way Conditional Suppression and Basic Suppression work together, due to a fix to address a related issue.

Starting with the 23.04 update, if you have a grid with Conditional Suppression defined and there is a single conditional expression, such as Data Values in Current Row/Column > 1000, and if you also have Basic Suppression such as Suppress No Data enabled, then you must modify the Conditional Suppression definition to include a conditional expression for Basic Suppression applied, such as Data Values in Current Row/Column = No Data. This applies to all the Basic Suppression types (No Data, No Access, Zero, and Error).

In a future update, Saved Lists will be renamed Saved Views.

FINANCIAL CONSOLIDATION AND CLOSE

FCCS_Global Assumptions Member

The FCCS_Global Assumptions member and its descendants (if any), from the Entity dimension will be restricted member(s) for On Demand Rules starting from the June (23.06) update. Financial Consolidation and Close users won’t be able to use the FCCS_Global Assumptions member and its descendants (if any) as Run Time Prompts (RTPs) while running On Demand Rules.

Future Updates to Ownership Management Locking / Unlocking

Currently there is a single Process Management Approval Unit for all instances of a shared entity. As a result, when data for one instance is Locked in Process Management, all instances are Locked. The same Locking logic will apply to Ownership Management. When data is locked for an Approval Unit POV, Ownership Management settings are also locked for the same Approval Unit POV. As noted above, this link from Process Management Locking / Unlocking to Ownership Management settings can be disabled using a Substitution Variable. Note that this ability to disable the link will be temporary.

When future updates to improve Organization-by-Period functionality are made available, there will be one Process Management Approval Unit for each instance of a shared entity rather than one Approval Unit for all instances. When this is first implemented, the same Locking / Unlocking logic will apply. When the Process Management Approval Unit is locked, then both data and Ownership Management settings will be Locked, but on an instance-by-instance basis for shared entities. At this point, the link between Approval Unit Locking / Unlocking and Ownership Management settings Locking / Unlocking will no longer be able to be disabled. This is to ensure that a change in Ownership settings cannot cause Locked data to be impacted.

A further update will then be implemented to provide a little more flexibility in Locking / Unlocking Ownership Management settings. These settings will be able to be Locked before the Process Management Approval Unit for the same POV is Locked. Ownership Management settings will only be able to be Unlocked if the matching Process Management Approval Unit is unlocked. This will allow users to work on updating data without worrying about ownership settings affecting their results. Again, the link and dependency between Locking / Unlocking data and Ownership Management settings will not be able to be disabled.

Posting Data Against Global Assumptions

It is recommended that you do not post data against the Global Assumptions member in the Entity dimension. This member is used to store information such as currency rates. Starting with the July (22.07) update, if you post data against Global Assumptions, an error occurs.

Phased Approvals

If you decide to enable Phased Approvals in your application, take note of the following considerations:

  • You will need to manually modify your Data Status forms to replace the dimension member "FCCS_Status_ApprovalStatus" with the new member "FCCS_Status_ConsolidatedApprovalStatus".

  • If you try to export the application from the March (22.03) update and import it to the February (22.02) update, you must update your Data Status form by changing the dimension member FCCS_Status_ConsolidatedApprovalStatus back to FCCS_Status_ApprovalStatus.

  • Additionally, you will encounter errors during the import because new artifacts related to Phased Approvals are not supported in the February (22.02) update.

Enterprise Journal Dimension Persistence

In a future update, all Enterprise Journal dimension attributes will persist their values once they are set in the Journal.

Consolidation Journal Application Roles Not Automatically Mapped to Any Predefined Role

In a future update, the following consolidation journal-related application roles will no longer be mapped to any predefined role, including Service Administrator.

  • Create Journals
  • Submit Journals
  • Approve Journals
  • Post Journals
  • Un-Post Journals
  • Manage Journal Periods

These roles will need to be explicitly assigned to new users from the Manage Application Role tab of Access Control. However, your existing users who already have these journal roles assigned will continue to have these roles assigned to them.

If you have any concerns, please open a service request.
