In today’s competitive business environment, it’s critical for your organization to deliver successful products that provide a high return on innovation, offer a differentiated set of capabilities, and drive superior customer experience. Bringing highly profitable products to market requires that you excel at all aspects of the product introduction process, from identifying high-value ideas, to developing those ideas into the correct products, to commercializing those products effectively in your sales channels. Oracle Product Lifecycle Management Cloud and Oracle Product Master Data Management Cloud are suites of solutions that provide a single, integrated product record across the three tenets of a modern product value chain: innovate, develop, and commercialize.
These solutions help you transform fragmented product development processes into product value chains that are driven by information, with full visibility into product information, real-time social collaboration, and cross-functional capabilities that apply to the entire ideation to commercialization process. You can use the following products to support this important business process:
- Innovation Management: Build an innovation pipeline fueled by a steady stream of high-value ideas, which results in profitable offerings.
- Product Development: Manage and coordinate product data and processes so that you can design and develop high-value products.
- Product Hub: Rapidly commercialize products that use centralized product information for manufacturing, marketing, and sales across global manufacturing sites, sales channels, and trading partners.
Oracle Fusion Innovation Management enables you to build an innovation pipeline fueled by a steady stream of high-value ideas that can be translated into profitable offerings. Investment scenarios can be evaluated in terms of business objectives such as, revenue, cost, profit, and resource constraints, to determine the best opportunities to commercialize, and eliminate scenarios and product proposals that do not fit with the strategy. In addition, ideas can be translated into concepts and detailed product requirements.
In Release 11, Innovation Management introduces enhancements in the following areas:
- Linkage to the product record
- Requirement management
- Proposal management
- Innovation management analytics
User interface improvements include the following:
- Font changes
- The number of columns of some tables are reduced and resized to avoid scroll bars and provide a tablet-friendly user interface
- In a portfolio, the scenarios table is collapsed by default, and the charts on the right are closed until you click the Refresh Analysis icon
- Notifications that were available in the Concepts landing page are merged into the global notifications list
- The requirements tables are rearranged and consolidated
Increased Visibility with Bi-Directional Product Record Linkage
In Release 11, the relationships between Innovation Management and Agile PLM entities are bi-directional. An association between an Agile PLM item and a requirement displayed in Innovation Management is also displayed on the item object in the Agile PLM application.
When a new revision or a new version is created, the relationships from the previous revision or version are carried forward. You can choose to see all the revisions or just the latest revisions of related objects.

Oracle Fusion Product Hub centralizes product data across heterogeneous systems so that it can create a blended product master record that is clean, standardized, accurate, and current. From products that you manufacture internally to finished goods that you source from suppliers, Product Hub enables you to aggregate, enrich, and share product data for various manufacturing and omni-channel commerce processes. Use robust business rules and workflows to make sure the data that you share across the enterprise is clean, complete, and valid.
Use Files and Web Services to Upload Attribute Groups and Attributes
In addition to Value Set values, you can now mass upload the following key business object configurations using CSV data files.
- Value Set definition
- Attribute and Attribute Group definition
Previously, you could mass upload only Value Set values using CSV files. Value Set definitions and user-defined attributes (Item Extensible Flexfields or EFFs) definitions had to be created through the user interface only. With this enhancement, in addition to the user interface, you can also use CSV file uploads to create the definitions. The CSV-based upload makes it easier to assemble and upload the said business object definitions and values using commonly available office productivity tools such as spreadsheets. This helps you accelerate implementation of Oracle Fusion Product Hub and adopt item attribute changes.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.
Manage Extensible Flexfields UI showing upload of Value Set, Attribute and Attribute Group definition
Steps to Enable
- Prepare the Value Set definition, Attribute Group definition, and Attribute definition in the specified CSV file format. Refer to the Key Resources section for documentation on this feature.
- From the Navigator menu, choose Tools, and then select File Import and Export. Upload your data file into the UCM folder using scm/item/import as the account.
- Navigate to the Setup and Maintenance work area.
- Search for the Manage Extensible Flexfields task.
- In the Actions menu, choose Import.
- Choose scm/item/import as the account.
- Specify file names for value set (value set definition), context (attribute group definition) and segment (attribute definition).
- Click Upload.
This creates the attribute group, attribute and value set definitions.
- Ensure that the CSV data files comply with the specifications detailed in Oracle Fusion Product Information Management: User-Defined Attribute Groups and Attributes (Extensible Flexfields-EFFs) Setup white paper (My Oracle Support Doc ID 1992317.1 )
- During initial configuration of the Oracle Fusion Product Hub production environment, you can use this method to migrate validated definitions from your non-production environment.
- Consider turning off Audit Trail for value sets and Item Attributes business objects during mass upload.
For more information, refer to the following Release 11 documentation:
- Oracle Fusion Product Information Management: User-Defined Attribute Groups and Attributes (Extensible Flexfields-EFFs) Setup white paper (My Oracle Support Doc ID 1992317.1) provides detailed steps on configuring extensible flexfields (EFFs) to meet your business needs.
Use Import Maps to Assign Packs to Organizations
You can now use item batches to assign pack structure to child organizations.
Prior to this enhancement, using item batches, you could import a pack structure only to the master organization. Any additional assignments to child organizations could be done only through the Manage Items page. This enhancement makes it easier for you to assign a large number of pack structures to a master organization and to the child organizations in a single item batches import.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.
Manage Import Maps page showing child organization assignment
- In the Product Information Management work area, open the Manage Import Maps task.
- Map target item attributes to the source data column.
- Map target Pack Common Organization attribute to master organization (or equivalent) column from the source data file.
- Map target Organization attribute to child organization (or equivalent) column from the source data file.
- Import the pack structure using the Manage Item Batches functionality.
- Child organization assignment through CSV/XML/ADFDI-based data import is also supported.
Use Easier Navigation to Product Hub Portal
Suppliers no longer have to navigate to Oracle Fusion Product Hub Portal to access Product Upload and Product Upload Schedules. You can directly access these pages from the Oracle Fusion Supplier Portal.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.

Steps to Enable
No steps are needed to enable this feature.
Streamline Pack Hierarchy Import
Use enhanced validations to streamline how you import a pack hierarchy with multiple branches. For example, an “Each” item can belong to Case 1 and Pallet 1, and also belong to a different pack configuration in Case 2 and Pallet 2. Use enhanced pack validations to make sure that the entire hierarchy does not fail if one of the branches does not pass the required validations.
Steps to Enable
No steps are needed to enable this feature.
You can now perform powerful targeted searches using keywords within your own list of searchable item attributes. In the searchable attributes list, you can include multiple attributes, both pre-defined operational attributes and user-defined attributes (Item Extensible Flexfields).
For keyword search, Oracle Fusion Product Hub provides a pre-defined list of searchable attributes. The list is made up of Item Number, Item Description, Long Description, and Item Class, the four commonly searched attributes. If your search requirements need to be even more targeted, then you can add any of the attributes belonging to the following attributes groups to the search list.
- Pre-defined items Operational attributes (Example: Asset Category)
- EFF attributes (Example: UPC code)
- Item relationships (Example: Cross-Sell Item)
- Trading partner items (Example: Customer Item)
Searching within a tailored search list yields a narrow set of results that closely matches your search expectation, leading to productivity improvement and better user experience.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.
Searching for items using an EFF attribute as keyword in the Manage Items page
- In the Navigator, click Setup and Maintenance.
- Search for the Manage Item Keyword Search Attributes task.
- Add or drop item attributes that are of search interest for your business.
- Search List configuration changes take effect in near real-time. In rare cases, re-indexing of a large volume of data could cause noticeable delays. In such instances, during the time the re-indexing is in progress, the search engine will continue to perform searches using the pre-change Search List configuration without causing any downtime for users. When the re-indexing is completed, the search engine will automatically switch to the changed Search List configuration for future searches.

For more information, refer to the following Release 11 documentation:
- Release Training documents (Ideation to Commercialization Release 11), available on the Oracle Cloud Release Readiness site.
You can now use rich text formatting, such as bold, italic, or indenting, for user-defined attributes (Item Extensible Flexfields). When you share the EFF data across multiple systems, along with the EFF attribute values, its rich text formatting is also shared. This makes it easier to publish well formatted documents such as marketing catalogs and user guides with consistency, using tools like BI Publisher.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.
Installation instructions maintained in EFF with Rich Text formatting, displayed in the Manage Items page
- In the Navigator, click Setup and Maintenance.
- Search for the Manage Item Attribute Groups and Attributes task.
- Define your Character Attributes and set the Display Type to Rich Text Editor.
- Click Save and Close.
- Associate the Attribute Group to the Item Class.
- Deploy Extensible Flexfields.
- If you have a business need to perform searches within a text document, and if the content of the document is suitable to be stored in an EFF, then instead of maintaining the data as attachments, consider using EFF attributes and add the attribute to Keyword Search configuration.
For more information, refer to the following Release 11 documentation:
- Oracle Fusion Product Information Management: User-Defined Attribute Groups and Attributes (Extensible Flexfields-EFFs) Setup white paper (My Oracle Support Doc ID 1992317.1) provides detailed steps on configuring extensible flexfields-EFFs to meet your business needs.
Use Longer Character Attributes
We have made it easier to store large-sized character data in user-defined attributes (Item Extensible Flexfields). The character limit is raised from 150 to 4000 characters. The increased attribute size is available to both translatable and non-translatable EFF character attributes. The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.

- In the Navigator, click Setup and Maintenance.
- Search for the Manage Item Attribute Groups and Attributes task.
- Define your Character Attributes and set the Value Set Maximum Length as 4000.
- Click Save and Close.
- Associate the Attribute Group to the Item Class.
- Deploy Extensible Flexfields.
- In case of formatted text attachments of a size smaller than 4000 characters, consider using EFF attributes.
- If you have a business need to perform searches within a text document, and if the document is suitable to be stored in an EFF, then consider using EFF attributes add the attribute to the Keyword Search instead of maintaining the data as attachments.
For more information, refer to the following Release 11 documentation:
- Oracle Fusion Product Information Management: User-Defined Attribute Groups and Attributes (Extensible Flexfields-EFFs) Setup white paper (My Oracle Support Doc ID 1992317.1) provides detailed steps on configuring extensible flexfields-EFFs to meet your business needs.
Use URL Attributes to Create Links to Data
You can now store clickable URLs in user-defined attributes (Item Extensible Flexfields).
Prior to this enhancement, you could store the URLs as text values in item attributes. To access the URL resource, you had to open a browser window and manually copy and paste the URL. With this enhancement, users can enjoy the advantage of accessing the relevant web pages directly from the item attribute itself by clicking the link.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.
Link to User Guide (an URL attribute) seen in Manage Items page
Steps to Enable
- In the Navigator, click Setup and Maintenance.
- Search for the Manage Item Attribute Groups and Attributes task.
- Define your character type Attributes and set the Display Type as Static URL.
- Click Save and Close.
- Associate the Attribute Group to the Item Class.
- Deploy Extensible Flexfields.
- Only static URLS are supported
- You can use Item Rule Sets to construct URLs and populate the EFF attribute
For more information, refer to the following Release 11 documentation:
- Oracle Fusion Product Information Management: User-Defined Attribute Groups and Attributes (Extensible Flexfields-EFFs) Setup white paper (My Oracle Support Doc ID 1992317.1) provides detailed steps on configuring extensible flexfields-EFFs to meet your business needs.
Quickly View Changes to Multi-Row Attributes
This enhancement supports redlining of changes in multi-row EFF attribute values in change orders.
Prior to this enhancement, for multi-row EFF attributes, the change orders indicated attribute value changes by displaying textual indicators, using words like ‘Delete’. With this enhancement, in addition to the textual indicators, the old values of the EFF attribute are displayed with a red overstrike. This helps reviewers to easily spot the changes made to the multi-row EFF attributes.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.
Changes to the country of origin seen in the Manage Change Orders page
Steps to Enable
No steps are needed to enable this feature.
Use Transactional Business Intelligence to Analyze and Report on User-Defined Attributes
You can now enable any EFF attribute to be available in the standard Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence (OTBI) report builder. This enables you to create OTBI analytical reports containing a mix of pre-defined operational attributes provided by Oracle Fusion Product Hub and EFF attributes that are specific to your business.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.
BI Report including pre-defined attributes (Item Number) and EFF attribute (Processor, Clock Speed)
- In the Navigator, click Setup and Maintenance.
- Search for the Manage Item Attribute Groups and Attributes task.
- Define your Item Attribute and set it as BI Enabled.
- Click Save and Close.
- Associate the Attribute Group to the Item Class.
- Deploy Extensible Flexfields.
- Execute ESS job Import Oracle Fusion Data Extensions for Transactional Business Intelligence.
- Select attributes from the pre-defined subject area and create the analysis or report.
- In OTBI, the EFFs are available in pre-defined subject areas. A pre-defined subject area name starts with ‘Product Management’ and ends with ‘Real Time’ (Example: ‘Product Management – Item Revisions Real Time’).

Call Web Services from Product Rules
You can now use Item Rule Sets to leverage data or complex business rules hosted on your on-premise systems or third party systems.
Prior to this change, Item Rule Sets could access only the data residing in Oracle Fusion Applications Cloud instance. Now you can use Item Rule Sets to source your item attribute values from a distributed set of information systems. You can also take advantage of complex business rules that might be operational in external systems, contributing to improved data quality.
The following screen capture illustrates the feature and its benefits.
Item Rules page showing the web service being used in the item Rule
Steps to Enable
- In the Navigator, click Setup and Maintenance.
- Search for the Register Item Rules Integration task and double-click to open.
- Register the web service.
- Click Save and Close.
- In the Product Information Management work area, open the Manage Item Rule Sets task.
- Reference the registered Web Service in the Rules.
- Click Save and Close.
- Item Rules support only SOAP-based web services.
- Though the web service can pass a set of parameters as input to external systems, the external systems should return only one value to Item Rules.
- The value returned by the external system should be an assignable value or Boolean value.
- Item Rule Sets invoke web services during item creation and item updates. Hence, the host systems may require performance tuning in order to fulfill Oracle Fusion Product Hub’s requests in a real-time manner.
For more information, refer to the following Release 11 documentation:
- Release Training (Ideation to Commercialization Release 11), available on the Oracle Cloud Release Readiness site.
Include Audit Trail for Setup Business Objects
We have extended Audit Trail coverage to the configuration of the following key business objects, to further strengthen your data governance over master data definition.
- Item attribute groups
- Value sets
Prior to this enhancement, although you could audit item attribute value changes, you could not easily trace changes made to the configuration of attribute groups and value sets themselves. With this enhancement, you can choose to audit changes to the business object definition. These business object definitions determine key aspects of an item such as which attributes are captured, characteristics of data (for example: value boundaries, optionality, defaults), and access restrictions (View/Edit privileges).
Steps to Enable
No steps are needed to enable this feature.
Tips and Considerations
- You can enable or disable audit for individual applications as required. To disable audit for a period of time (for example, while importing a large amount of pre-validated or historical data), deselect the audit check box for the required applications. When finished, select the audit checkbox again to enable audit.
