Mandate the Submission of Documents with Individual Compensation Proposals
You can now require proposers to attach relevant documents while submitting responsive individual compensation proposals, or make attachments optional. Approvers can view the attachments while they're deciding to approve or reject the proposal. After approval, the attachments are available in the individual's document records.
This enhancement lets approvers make more informed decisions more quickly by giving them the documents that aid their decision making. It also preserves the documents through the approval flow and after, for audit purposes.
Steps to Enable
For relevant individual compensation plan options, select the appropriate document type. Also specify if attachments are required or optional. Do this using the Individual Compensation Plans task on the My Client Groups > Compensation work area.
To ensure that the proposers and approvers are able to access the attachments while creating, editing, viewing or reviewing the individual compensation proposals, make sure the document type security profile attached to the data role allows access to the document types configured in individual compensation plans.
Tips And Considerations
Letting people add attachments and requiring attachments during a proposal is limited to responsive pages of Personal Contribution, Individual Compensation, Administer Compensation and other HR actions such as Hire, Change Assignment with Additional Compensation section. When you delete allocated individual compensation from these pages, it also deletes any corresponding attachments from document records.
When people add document settings to an existing individual compensation plan configuration, the changes apply to subsequent transactions. The changes don't affect existing transactions unless an approver edits an existing transaction with that plan and tries to resubmit.
Currently you can’t yet add attachments in Pending Worker and Offer flows, even though the individual compensation plan option is configured with document type settings.
Attachments added can’t yet be copied during local and global transfer or change mass legal employer processing to the destination legal employer, even though the individual compensation is copied. Documents could be copied basing the document records copy configuration but won't be linked to the individual compensation proposals.
You can’t yet view attachments added during an individual compensation proposal in My Compensation, Compensation Info.
You see the attachments link in approval notifications of Personal Contribution, Individual Compensation and Administer Compensation only. You can't yet view attachments link in other notifications.
Document Type Setup Guidelines:
- People can attach document types of assignment level.
- To prevent people from changing attachments using the Document Records action, be sure to set the Restrict Create, Restrict Update, and Restrict Delete document record preferences to Yes.
- Mark the Document Name attribute as relevant because that’s needed for integration to work.
- Don't mark any of the other attributes, such as Document Number and Issuing Country Applicable as required because those won't be populated and can cause errors.
- Generally, set the allow multiple occurrences property to Yes; use the defaulted 0 value for minimum attachments.
Role And Privileges
This table shows the privileges needed to access Document Records setup, that predefined roles inherit.
Function Security Privilege | Inherited by | Comments |
---|---|---|

Manage Person Documentation ORA_PER_DOCUMENT_MANAGEMENT_DUTY |
This Aggregate Privilege is planned to be inherited by Compensation Manager and Compensation Specialist in a future release. |
If you use custom roles, make sure the roles inherit the Manage Person Documentation aggregate privilege. You need to regenerate the data role after choosing the appropriate document type security profile.
Pending Approval Display of Personal Contribution, Individual Compensation, and Administer Compensation on Compensation Spotlight
You now have an indication on the compensation spotlight whenever a personal contribution, individual compensation, or administer compensation proposal is pending approval. Depending on whether you're the initiator or approver, you can view the details of the submitted proposal and also take action. Earlier, these sections showed only approved details.
Here are some examples of what you can see and do:
- If you initiated the approval process, you see the approval notification and approval history. You can also withdraw the proposal.
- If you are the approver, you can see the approval notification. You can also approve or reject the proposal.
- If you aren't the initiator or approver, but have access to submit an individual compensation or administer compensation proposal then you can see a message that the approval is in progress.
- If you aren’t the initiator or approver nor have access to submit an individual compensation or administer compensation proposal then you don’t see pending approval message.
Action | Who Can Initiate It | Where the Pending Approval Banner with Notification Details is Visible | Who Can See the Notification Details |
---|---|---|---|
Personal Contribution | Individual | My Compensation page, Personal Contribution section | Initiator |
Individual Compensation | Line manager Compensation manager HR specialist |
Compensation Info page, Additional Compensation section | Initiator and approver Not the individual |
Administer Compensation | Compensation manager HR specialist |
Compensation Info page, Additional Compensation section |
Initiator and approver Not the individual |
Here are examples of what an individual doing the Personal Contribution action sees.
Here are examples of what people doing the Individual Compensation action see.
Here are examples of what people doing the Administer Compensation action see.
Other Scenarios:
This enhancement raises the visibility of submitted contribution and individual compensation proposals to initiators and approvers.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
- Individuals can't view the notification details or take action when they have more than one personal contribution pending for approval. Instead, they see the number of transactions that are pending approval.
- An individual can't see the pending approval notifications for individual compensation or administer compensation unless they initiated the proposals or they're included as an approver.
View Individual Compensation Input Value Details in Offer Read-Only Pages
You can now view the input values of individual compensation proposals on read-only offer pages by expanding the Other Compensation section. You no longer need to drill down or edit the offer.
This enhancement lets recruiters easily see individual compensation proposal details.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
You can now better understand how various values affect salary range calculations using salary range simulation. This knowledge lets you better troubleshoot the causes of unexpected results. You can also do what-if analysis to determine probable salary ranges.
Here are some examples of what you can do with these simulations:
- You can view the base salary range calculated using the grade rate linked to the salary basis. And you can compare the base range to salary ranges calculated by applying the differential criteria and rules.
- You can change the simulation criteria, such as location, business unit, salary basis, and FTE. Then you can recalculate the salary ranges to see the effect of the changes. You can see warnings of problems that prevent the differential from being applied. You can also see values calculated differently than you expected. Depending on the underlying issue, you could see warnings such as these:
-
The salary basis doesn't have a grade rate, the linked grade rate is inactive, or the grade wasn't found in the grade rate
-
The salary basis doesn't have a differential, or the linked profile is end dated or inactive.
-
The alternate grade rate in the linked differential profile doesn't exist, is inactive, or the grade wasn't found in the alternate grade rate.
-
This person doesn't meet the criteria of any differentials in the linked differential profile.
-
This person doesn't have an assigned work location, so none of the differentials in the linked differential profile apply.
-
The linked differential profile doesn't have a compensation zone defined for this person's work location, so none of the differentials apply.
-
The linked differential profile doesn't have a compensation zone defined for this person's address type, so none of the differentials apply.
-
This person doesn't have a valid address type, so none of the differentials in the linked differential profile apply.
-
To show the correct ranges in OTBI reports and workforce compensation plans, run the Generate Compensation Zone and Address Mapping process.
-
This new feature empowers your compensation managers and HR specialists to better understand and troubleshoot salary range calculations.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
Here are explanations for key sections and fields:
Field or Section | Explanation |
---|---|
Effective Start Date |
Defaulted with the current date or the date used in the advanced search. |
Effective End Date |
Displays the salary end date when a salary record exists on the effective start date. |
Salary Range Criteria |
Fields in this section are defaulted with the assignment, salary values in effect on the start date. To see the results after you change criteria, click Recalculate Range. |
Calculated Range |
This section shows the salary range calculated using the grade rate and differential profile linked to the salary basis. It's where you can compare the ranges before and after the differential is applied. |
Date Used in Calculations |
Values for various fields, such as Annual Salary, Annual FT Salary, Ranges, and Compa-ratio are dynamically calculated. The calculations use the FTE, grade rate, and differential profile, which have their own effective dates and validations. Across the different periods of a single salary, it's possible to have more than one FTE, grade, grade rate, and differential logic applied. To handle these situations, pages with salary information dynamically calculate the analytical values, such as compa-ratio and range minimum and maximum. When the salary start date is in future, calculations use the start date. When the salary end date is in the past, salary calculations use the end date. For ongoing salaries or salaries with a future end date, calculations use the current date. This field let's people know which of these dates the calculations used. |

Configure Currency Column Display
You can now configure what information you want to see in the currency column in your Workforce Compensation worksheets. Previously, only the currency code was displayed.
Select one of the following options:
- Currency Code
- Currency Name
- Currency Code and Name
After you select the option you want, all columns that display currency show the same:
This feature lets worksheet managers more easily identify the currency their workers are paid in.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
Currency Code is the default value. You don't have to back out or refresh your workforce compensation plan when you change this value to another.
Configure Country Column Display
You can now configure what information want to see in the country column in your Workforce Compensation worksheets. Previously, only the country code displayed.
Select one of the following options:
- Country Code
- Country Name
- Country Code and Name
After you select the option you want, the country column shows the same:
This feature lets worksheet managers more easily identify the country their workers are in.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Copy Dynamic Column Configuration
You can now copy dynamic column configurations from one plan to another or from one column to another within the same plan. Previously, this was not allowed. In this example, the dynamic column associated with eligible salary are copied from one component to another within the same plan. First, navigate to the Dynamic Column configuration page for the compensation amount column:
Select the copy or duplicate icon on the toolbar:
The Copy Dynamic Expressions page opens:
On this page, you can copy dynamic calculation expressions from the current plan or select a different plan. In this example, the source plan is the same as the current plan. After you select the plan the Source Display Name list of values lets you select a dynamic calculation to copy:
The Column Names From columns shows the column names used in the dynamic expression based on the selection. You can show the Current Plan names or the Source Plan names. If more than one dynamic expression exists for a selected dynamic calculation, you can select and copy all or select some of the dynamic expressions to copy. After you select an option, the dynamic expressions are copied to the column and you receive a confirmation message:
Click Done to return to the Dynamic Column configuration page to view the copied expressions and save your changes. Newly added dynamic expressions have an icon to the left of the sequence number:
This feature makes it easier to configure Workforce Compensation Plans that have dynamic calculations.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
Only the columns that have dynamic calculations configured appear in the Source Display Name list of values.
Prevent Allocations When Budgets Are Null
You can now prevent managers from submitting allocations before they're issued a budget. Previously, this was not possible. We added a new configuration option to the budget pool configuration:
The available options are:
- No Validation
- Error preventing Save
- Error preventing Save and Submit
This feature prevents managers from making and submitting allocations without a budget being issued first.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
Use the Error on Save option when you configure plans with the Submit Mode of Disable submit in Configure Approvals and Notifications in plan setup. You can also select to use this option and change the Submit mode to Disable submit in Active Plans and then change it back after you've issued budgets.
Use the Error on Save and Submit option when you configure plans with the Submit Mode of Submit anytime or All managers must be approved.
If enabled, you can still use models to apply compensation amounts while budgets are null. Worksheet managers won't be able to make and save changes in the worksheet to applied amounts. If you've selected to have compensation amounts populated as a part of the Start process using default values or dynamic calculations, managers won't be able to make and save changes in the worksheet until you've issued a budget to them.
After you've issued a budget configured budget validation rules apply.
Budget Pool Configuration Moved To A Drill-Down Page
We made it easier for you to configure your budget pools by moving the Budget Pool dialog box to a drill-down page:
This feature makes it easier to configure your Workforce Compensation plan.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Compensation Component Configuration Moved To A Drill-Down Page
We made it easier for you to configure your compensation components by moving the Compensation Components dialog box to a drill-down page:
This feature makes it easier to configure your Workforce Compensation plan.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Receive Warning Message When You Submit a Workforce Compensation Batch Processes
You now receive a warning message that asks if you want to review your batch parameters before submitting after you click the Submit button:
Select No to submit the process. Select Yes to review the parameters before you submit the process again.
This feature gives people the option to have one final check before they submit a batch process.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
This feature doesn't affect the Synchronize Hierarchy OTBI batch process.
Updated Performance Tab Layout In Administer Workers
We updated the layout of the Performance tab in Administer Workers by streamlining the info:
Previously, this is what the layout of the task looked like:
This feature lets administrators better view Performance Management related data.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Workforce Compensation: Add OTBI Dashboards
Now you can add OTBI reports with dashboards in Workforce Compensation. Previously, only table style prompts were available, and you couldn't include dashboards. This new enhancement uses page composer to add OTBI content including dashboards, on the Compensation Landing Page. First create your analysis. Next create your dashboard prompts. Finally create a dashboard and add both.
Dashboards provide better support for prompts. Currently you can only use table style prompts which are simple toggles that don’t allow multi-select.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
Brought to you in part by Idea Lab: https://community.oracle.com/customerconnect/discussion/505726/ability-to-embed-bi-publisher-report-in-compensation-module
To ensure data integrity, take care that filter prompts in your analysis, match dashboard prompts.
You can still use session variables. Be sure they are added as both filters and as prompts for your dashboard object. Reference below list for the session variables and their respective Expression Language (EL).
- Logon Person ID: can be used in EL (#{sessionScope.logonPersonId})
- Logon Assignment ID: can be used in EL (#{sessionScope.logonAssignmentId})
- Plan ID: can be used in EL (#{sessionScope.planId})
- Period (cycle) ID: can be used in EL (#{sessionScope.periodId})
- Acting Person ID: can be used in EL (#{sessionScope.actingPersonId}) (when switched to a different manager)
- Acting Assignment ID: can be used in EL (#{sessionScope.actingAssignmentId}) (when switched to a different manager)
They can be left blank to show all the values in the dropdown, or default them from the context using the ELs above.

Enhanced Assignment Selection for Grade Step Progression Batch Processes
We added a new configuration option that lets you exclude an assignment from the Run Grade Step Progression process without excluding it from the Synchronize Grade Step Rates process. Previously, when you deselected the Include in grade step progression assignment attribute, both the Run Grade Step Progression and Synchronize Grade Step Rates processes excluded the assignment. Now, if configured, the Include in grade step progression assignment attribute will apply to only the Run Grade Step Progression process.
When the assignment attribute is set to N, the Run Grade Step Progression process excludes the assignment. By default, the Synchronize Grade Step Rates process also excludes the assignment. To include the assignment in the Synchronize Grade Step Rates process, deselect the Exclude assignment from rate synchronization process if excluded from grade step progression process check box.
With this enhancement, you can more easily update salaries for all assignments on a grade ladder.
Steps to Enable
- In Setup and Maintenance, click the Configure Global Compensation Settings task:
- Offering: Compensation Management
- Functional area: Base Pay
- Scroll to the Grade Step Progression section of the page.
- Under the heading Batch Settings, deselect the Exclude assignment from synchronize rate process if excluded from grade step progression process check box.
Tips And Considerations
- Here's what happens if the Exclude assignment from synchronize rate process if excluded from grade step progression process check box is selected.
- If the Include in grade step progression assignment attribute is Y, the assignment is included in both processes
- If the Include in grade step progression assignment attribute is N, the assignment is excluded from both processes
- Here's what happens if the Exclude assignment from synchronize rate process if excluded from grade step progression process check box is deselected.
- If the Include in grade step progression assignment attribute is Y, the assignment is included in both processes
- If the Include in grade step progression assignment attribute is N, the Run Grade Step Progression process excludes the assignment. And the Synchronize Grade Step Rates process includes it.
- To update the assignment attribute using HCM Data Loader (HDL) or HCM Spreadsheet Data Loader (HSDL), use the GspEligibilityFlag attribute.
- Valid values are Y and N.
- The loader interprets any value other than N as Y.
Record Configuration Details in Grade Step Progression Batch Logs
We added more details to the parent log for the Run Grade Step Progression and Synchronize Grade Step Rates processes. The log now records additional parameters and configuration details.
This example shows the parent log from Run Grade Step Progression. The first section of the log lists the process ID and process date time. It's followed by a list of the parameters that were entered when the process was submitted. In this example the process was submitted with a population filter for the Legal Employer attribute, so the legal employer name is listed. If a population filter isn't chosen, you don't see it in the log.
The next section of the log lists the settings on the Configure Global Compensation Settings page. These values might help you interpret results of the process. In this example the log shows that when the process ran, the Error when grade step record exists with the same date option was enabled. The log lists any progression that would update the grade step record on the same date as an error. You can change the setting and rerun the process to change your results.
The next section of the log gives details about each grade ladder in the process. Before the grade ladder is processed, it runs through some validations. If there are any problems, you see them listed here. If there aren't any problems, you see the validation status listed as Success. After the validation messages, there's a list of progression grade ladder attributes that may impact processing. For example, this log shows that the progression increment is set to Grade and step. The value might explain why a progression was proposed for an unexpected step. You can change this value to change your results.
With this enhancement, improve your ability to analyze and troubleshoot grade step progression results.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Grade Step Progression Replaced or Removed Features
From time to time, Oracle replaces existing features with new features, or removes existing features.
Replaced features may be put on a path of removal, the features below will let you know what update you will have to have moved to the newer feature. As a best practice, you should move to the newer feature as soon as possible for full support and to stay up with the latest updates that the product offers.
Any feature that is removed, will have an Update in which that feature is no longer available. Please make necessary plans to move off the feature by the Update indicated, as it will no longer be available.
Discontinued Support for Salary Default From Grade Ladder Rates In HCM Classic Simplified User Interface
The feature that populates salary from progression grade ladder rates will be removed from the classic Person Management > Employment page in an upcoming update. Currently the feature updates the salary record when you change the grade ladder, grade, or step on a person's assignment. The classic Employment page doesn't contain a compensation or salary section, so the feature depends on a service to update the salary record. Other classic pages, such as Hire an Employee and Add a Contingent Worker, include the compensation section, so these pages won't be impacted.
When support for the service is removed from the classic Employment page, related event triggers will also be removed.
Going forward, if you default salary from grade ladder rates, use the responsive HR actions.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Total Compensation: Proration for Element Entries
You can now control whether proration occurs for element entry style compensation items. Previously, proration was only available by default for salary element entries. You can enable proration or not for salary, and also enable it for other element entries. New Allow Proration radio buttons are available on the compensation item, when the source type is Element Entry and Type of Compensation is Monetary. We recommend that you always select Yes for any element entries linked to a salary basis.
You can see proration happening in these screen shots. First we display some salary history. Then we use the Your Contribution (proration) and Company Contribution (no proration) columns to help illustrate the effect of this feature. In Your Contribution, we see proration has occurred based on the dates and amounts from salary history. In Company Contribution we see what happens without proration.
Improve the accuracy of your total compensation statements that use element entry style compensation items.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
Brought to you by Idea Lab: https://community.oracle.com/customerconnect/discussion/505980/proration-of-amount-allocated-through-individual-compensation-on-total-compens
For Element Entry items created prior to this enhancement, the Allow Proration radio button option is displayed with Yes/No selected when people edit the compensation item.
Use the Test element entry button to preview results prior to generating statements.
Total Compensation: Items Page Improvements
Now you can use a searchable list for Legislative Data Group in compensation items. Previously, this was a vertically scrolling list. We expanded the display box on the Item Tester so you can see the table more easily. Previously, you had to scroll horizontally to see the item tester display box. Also we reversed the Value and Units columns to match other pages.
The screen shot on the left shows the new searchable list for Legislative Data Group, versus the old vertically scrolling list on the right.
The screen shot on the left displays the new and improved item tester display box, versus the former appearance on the right.
This feature improves your ability to search and select and improves your ability to see item tester results.

Compensation: New External Data Subject Area
We created a new subject area Compensation - External Data Real Time to report on compensation-related information from third-party and legacy applications, such as pension, annuity, royalty, or assignment segments. Worksheet column values for workforce compensation plans or compensation items in total compensation statements can be sourced from external data.
The subject area has details from external data, such as record type, start and end dates, and various transactional column values used in either workforce or total compensation. The delivered metrics in the subject area include the count of external data and the count of individuals with external data, which you can aggregate by various dimensions available in the subject area.
Nominal assignment and person information is also available for reporting using this subject area.
This feature lets you enhance your compensation reports to include people's data from external or legacy systems.
Steps to Enable
Leverage new subject area(s) by adding to existing reports or using in new reports. For details about creating and editing reports, see the Creating and Administering Analytics and Reports book (available from the Oracle Help Center > your apps service area of interest > Books > Administration).

Compensation: Filter Out Individual Compensation Plans from Workforce Compensation
We changed these subject areas to exclude individual compensation plans:
- Compensation - Workforce Compensation Real Time
- Compensation - Workforce Compensation Budgets Real Time
Now you will no longer see individual compensation plans in plan column prompts or the plan folder. Previously, individual compensation plans could appear. Use the Individual Compensation Subject Area for reporting on individual compensation style plans.
This enhancement improves your reporting because you won't inadvertently include individual compensation plans in reports that use the Workforce Compensation subject areas.

REPLACED OR REMOVED FEATURES
From time to time, Oracle replaces existing Cloud service features with new features or removes existing features. When a feature is replaced the older version may be removed immediately or at a future time. As a best practice, you should use the newer version of a replaced feature as soon as the newer version is available.
