Learning

Learning

Oracle Learning Cloud is a skills driven learning platform that enables employees, teams and organizations to develop the most relevant set of skills. Oracle Learning combines informal and formal learning, from internal catalog and external learning sources into a single platform to provide learners with a single, unified learning experience.

Redwood Learner Landing Page

Enable the new, modern learner home experience. It integrates with Oracle Dynamic Skills and simplifies searching and browsing the learning catalog, as well as accessing current learning and learning recommendations.

These new pages are available from the learner's landing page (Me > Learning):

  • On the Explore page, learners can browse and search the entire learning catalog visible to them, and easily filter to refine their results
  • On the Recommended Learning page, learners can view their learning recommendations and filter by recommendation categories
  • On the My Learning page, learners can view their current learning or entire learning transcript

On the Explore page, learners can browse and search the learning catalog. Browsing the entire learning catalog is more natural, and filtering doesn’t require them to first enter a search term.  When the page opens, the learner can immediately start to browse, filter, or sort the results. The callouts on the page shown here mark these features:

  1. Noticeably faster and more relevant search results using Oracle Search.
  2. Filters that let the learner find content in the learning catalog without entering a search term.
  3. An expanded view with a Get Started button that lets the learner enroll in, and in most cases, directly launch the content. Or the learner can click Learn More to view additional information on the item's details page.
  4. An expanded view that automatically plays the course or specialization trailer video to engage the learner without them first having to open a details page.
  5. Displays skills attainable by completing the course or specialization, and whether or not the learner already achieved them. Requires the use of Oracle Dynamic Skills.

New Learning Experience: Explore Page

The learner can easily filter the catalog using categories, topics, learning item types, skills, outcomes, and languages, as well as other filters.

New Learning Experience: Search Filters

They can sort the catalog by most recently featured, most recently added, title, starting soonest, rating, or most relevant, to have the more relevant results at the top.

New Learning Experience: Sort Search Results

On the Recommended Learning page, the learner can view their learning recommendations and filter by recommendation categories. The callouts on the page shown here mark these features:

  1. Filters let the learner quickly engage with or dismiss recommendations by recommendation category.
  2. Just like on the Explore page, an expanded view that automatically plays the course or specialization trailer video, if it exists, to engage the learner without having to navigating away to a details page.
  3. Just like on the Explore page, skills the learner will attain by completing the recommended item are displayed on the expanded view.

New Learning Experience: Recommended Learning Page

On the My Learning page, the learner can view their current learning and transcript. My Learning is the default landing tab when the learner clicks Me > Learning. The callouts on the page shown here mark these features:

  1. Quickly access current or completed assignments using filters.
  2. Sort the learning items by due date, most recently assigned, most recently completed, title or most relevant.
  3. Easily identify required assignments because of prominent visual differentiation.

New Learning Experience: My Learning Page

These new pages give learners a modern experience that simplifies browsing and searching the learning catalog.

Steps to Enable

  1. Add the Learner REST Services duty role to learners. The duty role includes the following necessary roles and privileges needed for this feature.  If your learners already have the duty role, you need to regenerate the role or manually add these new privileges
    • Functional Privilege: Use REST Service - My Learning Assignments Read Only
    • Role: Use REST Service - Learning Catalog List of Values
  2. Configure the environment to use Oracle Search Cloud Service, if not already enabled.
    • Set the site-level value for the HRC_ELASTIC_SEARCH_ENABLED profile option to Y
  3. Configure Oracle Fusion Cloud Learning to use Oracle Search Cloud Service and required supporting services. Set the site-level value to Y for these profile options:
    • ORA_WLF_ORACLE_SEARCH_MYLEARNINGASSIGNS_ENABLED
    • ORA_WLF_ORACLE_SEARCH_LEARNINGITEM_ENABLED
    • ORA_WLF_ENABLE_PROCESS_USER_ACCESS_KEY
    • ORA_WLF_ENABLE_PROCESS_LEARNING_RECOMMENDATIONS_KEY
  4. Ingest the learning catalog to Oracle Search.
    • Run the process called ESS job to create index definition and perform initial ingest to OSCS once. Specify fa-hcm-learningitem for the Index Name to Reingest input parameter.
  5. Ingest learning recommendations and learning assignments to Oracle Search.
    • Run the process called ESS job to create index definition and perform initial ingest to OSCS once. Specify fa-hcm-mylearningassignments for the Index Name to Reingest input parameter.
  6. Ingest the learning catalog access control.
    • Run the process called Process Access Control Lists for Learning Items for OSCS once using these parameters:
      • Select activities: Refresh both Table and Index
      • Person Number: leave blank
      • Number of concurrent processes: 5 (increase the this value based on the size of your employee population to reduce overall ingestion time)
      • Number of learners: 1000 (increase the this value based on the size of your employee population to reduce overall ingestion time)
    • You need the Access Learning Administration role to run this process.
  7. Configure the environment to use this feature by setting the site-level value to Y for this profile option:
    • ORA_WLF_LEARN_SELFSERVICE_VBCS_ENABLED

Tips And Considerations

  • This enhancement isn't supported for Oracle Fusion Cloud Government customers in the US.
  • The Explore page doesn't yet support filtering the learning catalog using flexfields.
  • Oracle Guided Learning isn't supported in the new learner home.
  • After an environment refresh, you need to manually re-initialize Oracle Search Indexes.
  • After a quarterly release update, Oracle Search indexes may need to be manually re-initialized to uptake new capabilities.
  • Filters on Explore and Recommended Learning pages only appear if there's data for the page that match the filter option, otherwise they're hidden.
  • In single-select and multiselect filters, for example the Topic or Learning Type filters on Explore, laerners need to click the filter to select an option, and click elsewhere on the page after their selection to filter the results.
  • The options in My Client Groups > Learning > Configure Self Service page > Configure Browse Learning Catalog section don't apply to this enhancement.
  • You can customize the pages using Visual Studio Builder and the supported customization variables. Refer to the Oracle Learning Implementer guide for details.
  • The new learner home is only compatible with the Process User Access and Process Learning Recommendation background processes which you enabled in step 3.
    • Reconcile Access Groups background process will no longer function, and you need to replace it's schedule with the Process User Access background process.
    • You need to schedule the Process Access Control Lists for Learning Items for OSCS process to synchronize access control changes with Oracle Search. Be sure to schedule it after the Process User Access process completes and with these parameters:
      • Select Activities: Incremental Refresh for OSCS Learning Item ACL index
      • Number of concurrent process: 5
      • Number of Learners: 1000
    • The Reconcile Dynamic Assignments background process will no longer reconcile recommendation initiatives. Instead, you need to schedule the Process Learning Recommendations background process in Reconcile mode.
      • Keep the Reconcile Dynamic Assignments process scheduled to reconcile required and voluntary initiatives, community membership groups, and community assignments.

Learning

Oracle Learning Cloud is a skills driven learning platform that enables employees, teams and organizations to develop the most relevant set of skills. Oracle Learning combines informal and formal learning, from internal catalog and external learning sources into a single platform to provide learners with a single, unified learning experience.

Microsoft Teams Virtual Classroom Provider

You can create and update Microsoft Teams web conferencing events directly in Oracle Fusion Cloud Learning after integrating the applications. In Learning, the events are part of virtual instructor-led training. Here's what learning administrators can do:

  • Select a Microsoft Teams Account when creating virtual instructor led training activities.
  • Create and modify virtual ILT activities in Oracle that link to the selected Microsoft Teams account and keep them in sync with corresponding meetings in Microsoft Teams for the instructors and the learners assigned to the activity.
  • Assign or withdraw learners from virtual ILT activities and keep the associated Microsoft Teams meeting attendance in sync.

Here's what learners can do:

  • Join the virtual classroom directly from the activity details page 15 minutes before the event.

Here's what instructors can do:

  • Join the virtual classroom directly from the offering details page on the day of the event.

This feature lets you leverage Microsoft Teams as a virtual classroom provider directly in Oracle Fusion Cloud Learning.

Steps to Enable

  • Configure Microsoft Teams as an external provider using the Configure External Providers task on the My Client Groups > Learning page.

  1. On the Edit Instructor page, in the Virtual Accounts section, on the Create menu, select Microsoft Teams.

  1. In the Search and Select Virtual Classroom dialog box, add the Microsoft Teams instructors.

Tips And Considerations

Capturing attendance and updating learners' activity statuses in Learning isn't yet automated, as it is with other supported classroom providers. Learning administrators must update the learners in the Learning application. Or they can use the integrated workbook, mass actions, or HCM Data Loader.

Storing the recording of the virtual session in Learning is also not yet automated, as it is with other supported classroom providers. Learning administrators can manually attach the recording as related material, when appropriate.

KNOWN ISSUES / MAINTENANCE PACK SPREADSHEETS

Oracle publishes a Known Issues document for every Update to make customers are aware of potential problems they could run into and the document provides workarounds if they are available.

Oracle also publishes Maintenance Pack and Statutory Maintenance Pack documentation of bugs that are fixed in the monthly or statutory patching.

To review these documents you must have access to My Oracle Support:

Oracle Human Capital Management Cloud Functional Known Issues and Maintenance Packs (Document ID 1554838.1)

Controlled Availability for Learning

The following is a list of Controlled Availability features that are being offered by our Controlled Availability Program.

NOTE: These features are not generally available for all customers at this time. These are only available through the Controlled Availability Program and will require approval to become a part of the features program. To be a part of these programs you will be required to participate in testing and providing feedback. Some programs may require other participation as well.

Not to worry if you don't have to time to be a part of these early stage programs. You can uptake this feature when it is generally available for all customers. When these features are available for all customers you will see the features under their product headings as usual.

We invite you all to browse through the list of features to see if there are any features you are interested in implementing in advance of the features scheduled release. The table below will provide information on signing up for features. Please sign up soon, as these programs have limited availability and some are designed for specific types of customers.

The table below gives you a brief description of the features available and how to sign up. Some features are bigger than others, so for more information there may be a What's New describing the feature in more detail below this table.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas as you participate the Controlled Availability programs!

Learning

Oracle Learning Cloud is a skills driven learning platform that enables employees, teams and organizations to develop the most relevant set of skills. Oracle Learning combines informal and formal learning, from internal catalog and external learning sources into a single platform to provide learners with a single, unified learning experience.

eLearning Player Version Update

The new eLearning Player that was introduced as an optional feature in the 21A update, is now enabled by default and is the only supported eLearning player. We first announced the removal of the earlier eLearning Player in our 21D What's New.

This enhancement improves learner experience and by giving them more control over completing their eLearning.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Tips And Considerations

Because this feature is now enabled by default, you don't need to make it functional with the ORACLE.ADF.VIEW.ALLOWED_ORIGINS profile option the way that you did previously.

Learning Item Contribution Approvals Support in Transaction Console

You can now view the status and history of approval transactions for learning item contributions from Transaction Console. You can also configure, monitor, and troubleshoot the approvals here as well as do a standard set of HCM approval actions, such as Terminate, Withdraw, or Reassign.

Transaction Manager Page, Transaction Summary Tab

This enhancement improves productivity because learning administrators can do standard actions on approval transactions for learning item contributions using Transaction Console.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Key Resources

For a list of standard actions, see Actions and Statuses for Workflow Tasks in the Using Common Features guide.

Bulk Ingestion to Oracle Search

If you're regularly loading new learning items or link them to global access groups using HCM Data Loader, you no longer need to re-ingest the learning catalog to Oracle Search when using the new learner experience. HCM Data Loader now automatically handles the re-ingestion.

This enhancement improves productivity because learning administrators don't need to re-ingest the learning catalog to Oracle Search.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Deep link to Enrollment Activity Details Page

The activity task deep link was enhanced to take the learner to the activity details page. For example, you want to notify learners who have completed their training, but not the evaluation. With this enhancement, you can now construct a resource alert that includes links directly to the activities in a learning enrollment that they still need to complete.

This enhancement improves productivity by taking learners directly to the correct page.

Steps to Enable

You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.

Learning Replaced or Removed Features

From time to time, Oracle replaces existing features with new features, or removes existing features.

Replaced features may be put on a path of removal, the features below will let you know what update you will have to have moved to the newer feature. As a best practice, you should move to the newer feature as soon as possible for full support and to stay up with the latest updates that the product offers.

Any feature that is removed, will have an Update in which that feature is no longer available. Please make necessary plans to move off the feature by the Update indicated, as it will no longer be available.

Delivered Dashboards and Reports Removal Notice

As we first announced in our 21A What's New, these delivered dashboards and reports will be removed in the 22D update.
