Improve Supply Tracking for Sales Orders in Your Back-to-Back Flows
Keep up-to-date with the latest changes in supply and manage supply requests in your back-to-back flow even when you ship only part of the order line.
Assume only some of the quantity for your order line is available to ship, so Order Management splits the order line into two fulfillment lines, fulfillment line x and fulfillment line y. Line x has the quantity that is available to ship. Line y has the quantity that isn't yet available to ship.
If you enable this feature, then Supply Chain Orchestration doesn't close the supply order when Oracle Shipping ships line x. Instead, Orchestration keeps the supply order open until Shipping also ships line y, or until Oracle Order Management cancels the request. Orchestration continues to orchestrate changes in demand and supply for line y as long as the supply order remains open.
Realize these benefits:
- Save time and work more efficiently. You don't have to manually create a new line for supply that isn't yet available. Supply Chain Orchestration will automatically create new supply for you.
- Track how much supply you have used even when Shipping has shipped only line x.
- Get timely updates so you can accurately track the progress that Orchestration is making to create supply for line y.
- Reduce or eliminate supply disruptions for line y. Orchestration will automatically update supply so it has the latest details for your line.
- Modify line y, and Orchestration will manage that change in your purchasing, inventory, or manufacturing organization.
- Manage an interruption to supply on line y in the same way that you do when you haven't partially shipped the line.
- Manage supply recommendations even when you have partially shipped one or more of them.
- Manage any number of shipments.
- Track each partial or full cancellation.

Steps to Enable
Use the Opt In UI to enable this feature. For instructions, refer to the Optional Uptake of New Features section of this document.
Offering: Order Management No Longer Optional From: Update 23C
Tips And Considerations
Consider these guidelines:
- If you need to take action on line y, then you must first use the Unschedule action on line y, and then use the Schedule action on line y. Orchestration will then create a new a supply order for the quantity on line y. For details, see Schedule Fulfillment Lines Manually.
- If you modify the warehouse or the item on line y, then Orchestration will cancel the supply order and make that supply available to other demand. It will also cancel any new supply that it's currently creating for line y. Orchestration will do this even if you enable the Defer Online Processing of Inventory Updates shipping parameter for the warehouse.
- If you enable the Defer Online Processing of Inventory Updates shipping parameter for the warehouse, then Supply Chain Orchestration won't use the Improve Supply Tracking for Sales Orders in Your Back-to-Back Flows feature for that warehouse.
- The split behavior in Order Management doesn't affect your purchase orders, work orders, or transfer orders.
Use This Feature with Other Features
You can enable only the Improve Supply Tracking for Sales Orders in Your Back-to-Back Flows feature, or you can also enable the Order Management's Update Attributes On Split Order Lines For Partial Shipments feature.
Features That You Enable | Description |
---|---|
Enable only the Improve Supply Tracking for Sales Orders in Your Back-to-Back Flows feature. |
Orchestration keeps the supply order open, and it will track supply for line y until Shipping ships line y. You can modify the scheduled ship date or warehouse on line y, and Orchestration will automatically update supply so it has the latest details for line y. You can't modify the quantity on line y after Shipping ships line x. |
Enable both features. | You can modify the quantity, scheduled ship date, or warehouse on line y even after Shipping ships line x. Order Management will use your revised values to fulfill the line and Orchestration will automatically update supply so it has the latest details for the line. If you enable the Update Attributes on Split Order Lines for Partial Shipments feature, then you also automatically enable the Improve Supply Tracking for Sales Orders in Your Back-to-Back Flows feature. For details, see Update Attributes on Split Order Lines for Partial Shipments. |
Don't enable either feature. |
Orchestration will close the supply order as soon as Shipping ships any part of the order line, and Orchestration won't track any other modifications that you make on the line. You can't modify the quantity on line y after Shipping ships line x. |

Manage Item Substitution During Work Order Execution
Production processes use materials to produce the finished goods. During the process of production, some of the input materials may be in shortage. To meet the production schedules, some of the items could use substitute materials and still produce the same quality of finished goods.
Until this update, work orders created by planning would look at substitute items and create the work orders with substitute items in case the primary item isn’t available in inventory.
With this update, you can now view and replace the substitute items during production even after the work order is created.
Here are the capabilities supported in this feature:
View Substitute Priority in Work Definition
You can view the details of the substitute item including priority that are defaulted from item structure and displayed in the work definition. Addition, deletion, or update to substitutes in item structures are automatically updated in the impacted work definitions by running Process Item Structure Changes to Work Definitions scheduled process.
Work Definition Substitutes
Work Execution
Work Order:
You can now view the item substitutes in the work order operation items window. An icon indicating there are substitutes for an item shows whenever substitutes are defined in the item structure. Upon clicking the icon, a new window opens showing all the substitutes and the priority.
Work Order Operation Item Substitute
You can choose to replace any of the substitutes in place of the primary item using the OK button for all unreleased discrete work orders. After the work order is released, you would be able to only view the substitutes but not replace them.
Replace with a Substitute
Material Availability Assignments :
You can now calculate material availability for work orders using an additional option, Calculate Material Availability with Substitutes for all discrete manufacturing work orders. Upon choosing this option, the material availability calculation, includes the substitutes defined for the items and gives an indication of material availability including substitute inventory availability.
A new icon indicating substitutes recommended for the work order is shown in the results window. The icon indicates if materials are available for a work order for all primary items on the item structure, or using substitutes for one or more items.
Substitutes Recommended for Work Orders
You can review the details of a work order material availability status with substitutes in the Material Availability Details window. You have an option to accept substitutes. After you choose to accept substitutes, the primary item is replaced with the substitute item in the work order and you can now release the work order for execution with substitutes.
Work Order Assignment Details Displaying Substitutes Recommended
After you accept the substitutes, the icon now shows that substitutes have been recommended and accepted giving a visual indication of substitution. If substitution hasn’t been done, the icon indicates that recommendation has been done. If substitutes are defined in structure or work definition, but not recommended either due to primary item being available or substitutes not available, the icon is displayed in disabled status. If no substitutes are defined, we do not show any icon.
The search option for material availability assignments window, allows you to search if substitutes have been recommended, not recommended, not defined or recommended, and accepted.
In addition, you can view the substitute item details in the Work order Operation Materials dimension and the Count of Substitute Items metric in the Manufacturing - Material Usage Real Time subject area in OTBI.
Using the manage item substitutes during work order execution, you can manage shop floor exigencies of material shortages and replace with substitute items to ensure production schedule adherence.

Offering: Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials Management No Longer Optional From: Update 23C
Tips And Considerations
- Only discrete manufacturing work definition can be created referencing the Item structure, where substitutes can be defined for components. So substitutes aren't applicable for process manufacturing, contract manufacturing, and maintenance work orders.
- You can replace the full quantity of a component with a substitute in a unreleased work order; partial quantity replacement isn't supported.
- Substitute priority isn't captured in the electronic record and audit trail for work definition.
- Substitute dialog details in work order aren't captured in electronic record, component list report, work order traveler, and audit trail.

Create Manufacturing Work Order and Transaction Reports with Job Profiles Using OTBI
Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence (OTBI) lets you create reports using real time transactional data from Oracle Fusion Cloud Manufacturing to analyze work orders and view transaction history. In this update, you can view the job profile and requirements for a labor resource in which the resource instance is assigned to or transacted in a work order operation by adding this new column to your manufacturing reports in OTBI. The new dimension for job profile is now available in the Manufacturing Resource Usage Real Time subject area.
A job profile specifies the skills and qualifications of different types including competencies with rating levels and certifications to perform a manufacturing work order operation. Job profiles, which are model profiles and employee profiles are both managed in Oracle Fusion Cloud Talent Management, part of Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Capital Management (HCM).
Job profile dimension allows you to display job profile, and the skills and qualifications defined for an operation resource. In this dimension, you can see all the content types, content items, rating level required, and start and end dates of content items.
Job Profile OTBI Report
Viewing the job profile in Manufacturing OTBI reports improves the traceability between operators and their work performed to help you analyze any process deviations and production reject or scrap that may be attributed to training noncompliance.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
The job profile specified for a manufacturing work order operation is selected for the employee talent profile when a labor resource instance is assigned to a work order operation and when resource usage is reported manually or through an operation transaction. This validation check is performed in real time and isn't available for OTBI reporting against the work order operation or resource and operation transactions. If you report a production exception to track the training noncompliance event, you can create a corresponding OTBI report on the production exception history.

Reactivate an Inactive Work Definition
Occasionally, manufacturing engineers deactivate a work definition to obsolete or temporarily hold its usage but also need a way to revert this action. For example, when you flip the make-or-buy decision for a product to manufacture in-house, you need its main work definition to become active again to support cost scenarios and cost rollup. With this update, you can reactivate a manufacturing work definition to make it available again for use in work order creation, supply chain planning, and costing.
Reactivation applies to all versions of the work definition by restoring the active status and clearing the inactive on date in the work definition header. You can reactivate a specific work definition from the Manage Work Definitions page or using file-based data import (FBDI), or a REST service, by specifying the action as UPDATE and work definition status as ACTIVE. If electronic records and electronic signatures (ERES) are enabled for the work definition, reactivating a work definition from the Manage Work Definitions page generates an electronic record and initiates the process of approval through a workflow.
The following is a screenshot of the Manage Work Definitions page showing Reactivate Work Definition action and Work Definition Status and Inactive On information.
Reactivate Work Definition
The following is a screenshot of the electronic record that's generated for work definition reactivation if ERES is enabled for work definition management in a manufacturing plant.
Electronic Record for Work Definition Reactivation
Work definition reactivation provides greater flexibility in controlling its usage in manufacturing, planning, and costing without having to introduce a new work definition.
Watch a Demo.
Steps to Enable
You don't need to do anything to enable this feature.
Tips And Considerations
- Reactivating a work definition reactivates all versions of an inactive work definition. The work definition status is either active or inactive depending on reactivation or deactivation, respectively.
- You can't edit the inactive on date for a work definition. It's automatically cleared or defaulted depending on reactivation or deactivation, respectively.
- If a work definition already exists with the same item and production priority or costing priority, the reactivated work definition automatically reflects the next highest production priority or costing priority. For example, initially you had work definition Primary for a given item. You deactivated it, and created work definition Main to replace it. As a result, both Primary and Main have production priority 1. Because production priority must be unique, when you reactivate work definition Primary, the system will automatically update its production priority from 1 to 2.
- After submitting a reactivated work definition for electronic record and electronic signature, the work definition status becomes Pending Reactivation, and the work definition can't be updated. Upon approval, the work definition status is updated from Pending Reactivation to Active. If it's rejected, the work definition status is updated from Pending Reactivation back to Inactive.
- If ERES is enabled for work definitions in a manufacturing organization, you can't create or update work definitions, which includes reactivation, using the ADFdi spreadsheet, FBDI, or a REST service. You can only use the user interface.
- Any item structure changes occurring between the deactivation and reactivation of a work definition must be manually synchronized to the impacted work definitions instead of using the Process Item Structure Changes to Work Definitions scheduled process. The scheduled process doesn't synchronize item structure changes to inactive work definitions.

Qualify Equipment When Assigning Work or Reporting Resource Usage
For companies with disparate systems for ensuring equipment is properly checked and managing work orders, there could be a delay in checking the equipment status such as for calibration purposes prior to the execution of work. With this feature, you can verify that an equipment is qualified to perform a manufacturing or maintenance operation based on the specified equipment qualification profile.
For initial setup, you can leverage Oracle Fusion Cloud Maintenance to define an asset number for an equipment resource instance and specify an equipment qualification requirement. For example, you can create a qualification requirement for calibration to check the calibration status. An equipment profile is automatically created based on the equipment qualification requirement. Then, you add the qualification requirement belonging to the qualification profile and its details to an asset number. This qualification detail is accessible from both the asset record and the resource instance record. You can view the asset qualifications for a history of qualifications with the last qualified date, qualified by, and the next qualification date.
Define Qualification Requirement
Automatically Created Qualification Profile
Enter Qualification Records for the Asset Number Linked to the Resource Instance
Then, you can require that an equipment must meet the specific qualification requirement by associating the equipment qualification profile to a resource in a standard operation, a manufacturing or maintenance work definition operation, or directly to a manufacturing or maintenance work order operation.
Associate Equipment Profile to a Work Order Operation Resource
The equipment qualification check is enforced when assigning work to an equipment resource instance or reporting resource usage as follows:
- You can confirm the equipment qualification when assigning an equipment resource instance to a manufacturing or maintenance work order operation. In the event that the equipment doesn't qualify during the assignment to a work order operation, you receive a warning and can proceed or replace with another qualified equipment.
Supervisor is Warned if Unqualified Equipment is Assigned
- You can confirm the equipment qualification when reporting an operation or resource transaction using the equipment resource instance. During operation completion or resource charging, you can't proceed with an unqualified equipment and need to reassign to a qualified equipment.
Resource Transaction Requires a Qualified Equipment Resource Instance to be Specified that Meets the Qualifications Specified in the Equipment Profile
In addition, you can view the equipment profile and requirements for an equipment resource in which the resource instance is assigned to or transacted in a work order operation by adding this new column to your manufacturing reports in OTBI. The new dimension for equipment profile is now available in the Manufacturing - Resource Usage Real Time subject area.
Equipment Profile is Exposed in Resource Usage Real Time Subject Area
File-based data import (FBDI) changes:
You can associate the equipment profile to a standard operation resource, work definition operation resource, and work order operation resource using file-based data import. A new column called Equipment Profile Code has been added to the respective FBDI templates. You can't report operation completion if an operation resource has an associated equipment profile and has charge type as Automatic, because resources and resource instances can't be reported for operation transactions through FBDI. To report completion for such operations through FBDI, you can set the resource charge type to Manual and use the Work Order Resource Transaction Import.
REST API changes:
You can associate the equipment profile to a standard operation resource, work definition operation resource, and work order operation resource using a REST service. The REST payload accepts Equipment Profile Code and Profile ID. You can't report operation completion if an operation resource has an associated equipment profile and has charge type as Automatic, because resources and resource instances can't be reported for operation transactions through REST. To report completion for such operations through REST, you can set the resource charge type to Manual and use the Work Order Resource Transaction REST service.
ADFdi Changes:
You can associate the equipment profile name to standard operation resource and work definition operation resource through Application Development Framework desktop integration (ADFdi) spreadsheet.
Integrated, inline checks for equipment qualification reduces the likelihood of noncompliance, defects, or failures in manufacturing and maintenance operations.

Steps to Enable
Use the Opt In UI to enable this feature. For instructions, refer to the Optional Uptake of New Features section of this document.
Offering: Manufacturing and Supply Chain Materials Management No Longer Optional From: Update 23C
To use this feature, it is required to associate asset number to the equipment resource instance. You must first define qualification requirements belonging to a qualification profile in Oracle Fusion Cloud Maintenance. Then, you must define qualification records for the eligible asset numbers.
Watch a Setup Demo.
Tips And Considerations
- You can define the qualifications required for a manufacturing or maintenance operation using an equipment qualification profile for an asset in Oracle Fusion Cloud Maintenance. You must associate the resource instance to an asset number to perform the equipment qualification check for the resource instance.
- You can use an equipment qualification profile for any work order type and work method, including in-house discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, and maintenance. However, you can't enforce the qualification check for a supplier operation in outside processing or any operation in a contract manufacturing work order.
- You can associate an equipment profile to a work definition operation resource to apply the same qualification requirement to all of its equipment resource instances during work order assignment and operation or resource transaction reporting. If an equipment is qualified to do more than one type of work, then you can create different equipment profiles that align with the different operations.
- You can create a new work definition version to track changes in the equipment profile that contains the qualification requirements associated with an operation. Enabling e-records and e-signatures for manufacturing work definitions can automatically enforce a new work definition version for any further changes using an approval process.
- You can enforce the qualification check when reporting operation or resource transactions through the UI, REST, and FBDI.
- You can't leverage an external system for the equipment qualification check, because only the integrated check with a Maintenance asset is supported.
- You can't use the Quick Complete process on the Review Dispatch List page when a work order has an equipment profile required for any of its operation resources.
- You can't override the work order operation assignment or operation and resource transaction reporting with an unqualified resource at this time. Qualifications are checked against the assigned equipment resource instance. To resolve an invalid qualification, you can either reassign to a qualified equipment or rectify the equipment qualification profile with the appropriate qualifications.

SCM Analytics Support for Schedule Data
When you create a schedule, a set of generated data is constructed for use in the consuming Oracle Fusion products. For example, financial products may want to know the period start dates for use in processing financial data, while payroll might want to know the details of each working day for a given week. This extract view object includes data for week start dates, period start dates, year start dates, available days (also known as working days), and schedule details for the start and end times of each working day that can be used by the consuming products.
Your enterprise may find these views useful if you need to know the starting dates for fiscal periods in reports, or of you need to know the nonworking days for a warehouse in an external integration so that you avoid shipping or receiving activities on those days.

Associate Job Profiles for Automatically Transact Operations
With this update, you can associate job profiles with labor resources that belong to automatically transact operations.
Previously, if you opted in to the Qualify Operators When Assigning Work or Reporting Labor Usage feature, then you could associate job profiles with all labor resources except labor resources that belong to automatically transact operations.
With this update, if you opted in to the Qualify Operators When Assigning Work or Reporting Labor Usage feature, you can now enforce assignment of a qualified labor resource instance in a manufacturing or maintenance work order for automatically transact operations. You can then enforce assignment of a qualified labor resource instance when you report resource transactions for these operations in the next count point operation.
