Carajás modernizes its IT environment with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
The retail chain reduces system interruptions and improves customer service with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Exadata Cloud@Customer.
“With the new infrastructure powered by Oracle, we managed to nearly eliminate interruptions so that our services are reliably available. This not only improved customer satisfaction but also helped us capture more business opportunities, resulting in a direct increase in revenue.”
Business challenges
The retail home center operates 11 stores across five states in Brazil, along with two distribution centers. The company offers construction materials, home decor, appliances, electronics, and more.
Carajás dealt with an on-premises system that had limited scalability, high maintenance costs, security risks, and struggled to keep up with the company’s rapid growth. The company needed a more robust, highly available cloud solution.
Why Carajás chose Oracle
As a longtime Oracle customer, Carajás decided to adopt Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer to optimize its IT infrastructure. Oracle’s solutions were compatible with the company’s existing products, which helped smooth integration and management. In addition, both products offered high availability and security, to help protect the company's confidential data, as well as that of its consumers and suppliers.
Results
With an average availability rate of 99% with OCI, Carajás efficiently ran intensive workloads and processed large volumes of data quickly without compromising performance. OCI also decreased response time for its systems and applications by about 40%.
After using Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer and OCI, Carajás leaders gained valuable data insights to make more informed business decisions. The company also scaled IT resources to handle seasonal demand peaks, such as during Black Friday shopping. The environment analyzes and decides to scale or reduce every 20 minutes, thus keeping costs under control and processing stable.
Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer brought several advanced features to Carajás compared to its previous environment. Exadata allowed the company's DBAs and partner to scale processing, optimizing database resources as needed and controlling costs, resulting in a 98% cost reduction. Compression reduced the size of stored data considerably in the database, saving disk space and improving query performance by 80%.
Ultimately, the implementation of OCI and Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer substantially increased the availability of the network's IT systems, improving customer experience and significantly increasing satisfaction rates. As a result, the company captured more business opportunities and enjoyed revenue growth and market expansion.
