Business challenges

NTT Docomo, the largest mobile service provider in Japan, needed high performance, scalability, and reliability to support future growth.

As the core infrastructure for Docomo’s digital transformation and further business growth, I look forward to the continuous evolution of Oracle Exadata and the novel technology innovation driven by Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud@Customer.

Why NTT Docomo Chose Oracle

NTT Docomo chose Oracle Exadata to integrate existing databases rather than develop new stand-alone ones because Oracle offers a high-performance, reliable, and scalable database platform that enables Docomo to minimize IT operating costs.

Results

After NTT Docomo implemented 100 Oracle Exadata Database Machines in its data centers, Oracle Database performance increased by up to 10X.

Also, NTT Docomo was able to reduce operating and maintenance costs by up to 50% by consolidating databases with Oracle Exadata instead of developing and maintaining stand-alone database instances. The company consolidated Oracle Databases for its corporate information system, which supports 30 subsidiaries.

In addition, NTT Docomo improved end-user work efficiency by rapidly processing massive volumes of business data on Oracle Exadata while also increasing data availability by using Oracle Exadata to maintain real-time copies at two disaster recovery sites—ensuring rapid data recovery and minimal data loss in the event of a disaster.
