  1. Validates integrity of incoming backup and redo stream to detect anomalies prior to storing files on disk.

    • If any anomaly is detected, the backup is rejected and error messages are generated to notify administrators.
  2. Continuous, multifactor recovery validation for backups at rest:

    • Backup files must be readable by RMAN.
    • All database transactions (SCNs) needed for RMAN point-in-time-recovery are available.
  3. Outgoing restores and replicated backups are validated prior to sending over the network.

In addition, Recovery Service automatically replicates backups for increased availability within the cloud region, and the replica independently validates backups.


Recovery Service builds on Oracle Data Guard’s redo transport and Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) technologies to provide continuous data protection and recovery validation. The same software that created the backup is used to validate its integrity—without overhead on database servers.
