With the addition of the Document element to the ShipmentStatus interface  - you now have the ability to load documents directly from within the ShipmentStatus interface versus having to be load your documents using the separate Document interface.

External Distance Engine and Map Enhancements

Simplified External Distance Engine Configuration UI

This enhancement provides you with a more intuitive approach for setting the options (parameters and values) to use with your External Distance Engine (EDE) vendor.  The parameters and values displayed in the External Distance Engine configuration power data UI are now driven by the External Engine Type you select.

External Distance Engine and External Service Engine Consider Equipment Restrictions

This enhancement provides you with all the tools you need to classify equipment so that OTM can more completely calculate the external dimensions and weight of the equipment assigned to a shipment. The additional dimension/weight information is captured to improve the mapping and the information provided to the ALK and HERE external distance engines, which rely on this information to properly route shipments considering bridge and tunnel height and weight restrictions

Screen Set - Configure Map Hover Fields

This feature allows the "Include in Hover" setting in the Screen Set results to be used for configuring the map hover text as well as Gantt hover text.

Workbench Map - Expose Vendor Map Controls

A new "Controls" function has been added to the Workbench Map toolbar.  This allows you to enable map vendor specific functions within the Workbench Map. The controls are dynamically loaded based on the map vendor and each vendor supports a different set of controls. Based on the menu selection the controls are toggled on or off.

Configuration for Map Hover Text is now available.  The “Include in Hover” checkbox on the Screen Set Results is now used for both map and Gantt.  You can assign screen sets to a Workbench Map in a Workbench Layout.

Workbench Map - Support Multiple Maps in Workbench Layout

This feature provides you with the ability to configure a Workbench Layout to have multiple map regions.  This capability is beneficial for user who wish to have dedicated map regions for viewing shipments by different criteria - mode, carrier etc.

Workbench Map - External Distance Engine and Map - Consider Traffic Between Stops

New logic parameter USE TRAFFIC PER STOP is added to control the use of traffic per stop pair when plotting a shipment on a Workbench Map.  This is part of the ongoing effort to use the External Distance Engine parameters similarly when planning shipments and when plotting shipments on a Workbench Map.

Workbench Map - Consider Hazmat for Each Pair of Stops

This feature expands the functionality of External Distance Engine to consider Hazmat between each pair of shipment stops when routing the shipment on a Workbench Map.

This is part of the ongoing effort to use the External Distance Engine parameters similarly when planning shipments and when plotting shipments on a Workbench Map.  For Hazmat, this feature provides consistency between rolling stop-to-stop solution supported in planning and the shipment level approach previously supported in Maps.

Workbench Map - Lock Zoom Level and Lock View on Map

This feature provides you with two new lock functions on the Workbench Map toolbar.  The new lock functions improve the usability of the map display by allowing you to control the view and zoom more directly.

Lock functions on the Workbench Map toolbar include:

  • FERRY_DISCOURAGE
  • ELEVATION_LIMIT
  • EQUIPMENT_RESTRICTIONS

Workbench Map - Map Filters

This feature provides you with the ability to filter objects displayed on the map, the objects supported with this release are OTM shipments and Logistics Network Modeling scenarios.  There's a new icon/function available in the workbench map toolbar, click this to open a window that allows you to specify criteria by which to limit the shipments or modeling scenarios that display on the map.

Transportation Operational Planning

Clustering Merge Algorithm

Cluster wise shipment building algorithm provides significant run-time improvements for multi-stop problems with a high number of stops.

Multi-Stop Consolidation for Co-Located Stops

This feature provides a way to configure OTM's planning logic to recognize co-located stops - (unique locations that are located near each other - like in an office building/mall or campus) and plan those stops together so that a single truck/shipment services the identified set/sets of co-located stops.

Load Configuration - Scoring Algorithm Load Bearing

This feature provides customers who use Container Optimization 3D Scoring with additional criterion that can be used to further tune the scoring placement combinations in 3D load configuration and improve the load building solution.

  1. Put boxes to eliminate fragment spaces : This criterion encourages placement that reduce the number of fragment spaces, give rise to less constraint for further placement.
  1. Consider load bearing abilities during evaluation: This criterion encourages the algorithm to put strong ship units  with high load bearing weight capacity lower in the stacking layers, and put weaker ship units that have lower load bearing weight capacity in the topmost layers.

Parameters:

  • MIN WEIGHT FOR SPACE DEFRAGMENTATION CRITERIA : Integer - Default - 10
  • MAX WEIGHT FOR SPACE DEFRAGMENTATION CRITERIA : Integer - Default - 100
  • MIN WEIGHT FOR LOAD BEARING CRITERIA : Integer - Default - 10
  • MAX WEIGHT FOR LOAD BEARING CRITERIA : Integer - Default - 100

Consider Service Provider Capacity Across Days

This feature provides you with the ability to configure a service provider assignment time change policy that allows OTM to feasibly change a shipment's start date inside the service provider assignment planning logic to use available capacity on a later date in order to reduce the cost of today's solution.

With no time change policy defined, OTM takes a shipment's planned start date and assigns the least cost service provider considering the planned shipment start date and available capacity limits on the shipments planned start date.  This feature allows you to configure a service provider time change policy that allows OTM to change a shipment's start date (if feasible) to consider using a service provider's capacity that is available on different days.  This flexibility can be beneficial in scenarios where you have the potential of not using or losing access to a lower cost service provider's future capacity.

For example, given a scenario where you have one inexpensive service provider with a capacity limit of one shipment per day and another expensive service provider with unlimited capacity and two shipments with a planned start date of today.  In this scenario, this feature provides OTM's planning logic with the option - if it's feasible - to shift the start date of one of the shipments to tomorrow so that both shipments can now be assigned to the least expensive carrier.

Honor Location Inactive Flag for Intermediate Locations in Network Routing

This feature provides you the ability to use the property glog.business.location.inactiveLocationSetting to configure OTM to prevent locations that are inactive (active flag unchecked) from being used as intermediate locations (e.g. cross docks) when Network Routing is enabled, or as arbitrary via points (Port-of-Load or Port-of-Discharge) regardless of the Order Routing Method.  This is controlled by the new property

Rule 11 and Network Routing

This feature provides customers who are using OTM to rate and plan Rule 11 rail shipments in the US to take advantage of OTM's Network Routing capabilities in evaluating routing options.  This change includes Network Routing for Bulk Planning, Network Rate and Route in RIQ and Show Network Routing Options.  The ability to use the Network Routing logic with Network Rate and Route in RIQ and Show Network Routing Options will provide you with visibility to multiple results by different routes.

Tracking Event Ahead/Late Calculation Based on ETA

This feature provides you with the ability to set indicators based on a configured "Ahead – Late" calculation considering a comparison between the current ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) and the planned arrival time.

As a shipment progresses, the ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) may vary.  Based on incoming Tracking Event information Agent that listens for events that are provided by an external system.  These events provide an ETA and this is compared to the Planned Arrival Time.  Based on the difference and based on user configured criteria, the Tracking Event Indicator can be colored based on the degree of tardiness.

Ability to Turn Off Rating Within Network Routing

Some bulk plan planning scenarios (Bulk Plan with Work Assignments or Network Modeling Bulk Plan) use network routing but may not involve any network routing decisions. In these scenarios, the Network Routing logic parameter ROUTING SOLUTION METHOD can be used to reduce planning run time by disabling or reducing the planning logic used in the network routing planning step.

The Network Routing logic parameter ROUTING SOLUTION METHOD can have one of three values:

  • Optimize: Rate the network and go through network routing optimization (including shortest path and route optimization logic). This is the default.
  • Simple Solve With Rating: Rate the network, but do not optimize (goes through shortest path, but not the route optimization logic).
  • Simple Solve With No Rating: Do not rate the network, and do not optimize (goes through shortest path, but not the route optimization logic).

Center of Gravity Out of Bounds Reporting

This feature provides you with the ability to identify and receive notification about out of bounds situations related to center of gravity.

This is capability is provided by using OTM's 3-D load configuration capabilities with the agent action EVALUATE CENTER OF GRAVITY.  This solution - once configured - provides the following capabilities:

  1. The center of gravity calculation for the freight.
  2. The persistence of the calculation information on the shipment's shipment equipment (s_equipment).
  3. The ability to send notifications for results that are out of bounds.

The calculation of the C or G for the freight is part of the shipment building process once 3-D is invoked.  The s-equipment will be populated.

The notification is handled by the new agent action.

The "solution" requires that both 3-D and the agent action be properly configured.

Top-Off Orders

This feature provides you with the ability to fill (or top-off) your shipments with product from an order you designate as a Top-off order. Once configured - OTM's planning logic will use your designated Top-off order to fill any available space remaining after planning has created your shipments from your regular (or non-top-off) orders.

Out of Gauge Load Building

This feature allows loads to be packed that are wider and longer than the dimensions of the defined base equipment dimensions.  This new capability models an oversized compartment placed on top of the truck and allows for the balancing of the load within the defined compartment.

Network Routing - Allow Order to Start and End at Through Point

This feature allows the network routing logic to consider orders that originate at a through point along with orders that pass through the through point for consolidation opportunities..

Network Routing - Cross Leg Consolidation

This feature provides you with improved the network route optimization logic that considers cross-leg consolidated routing options in the routing decision step.

In Network Routing, when multiple network legs have the same leg consolidation group, OTM can consolidate the shipments that have been created on separate legs. Leg consolidation groups allows OTM to consolidate orders across multiple legs to save costs. This feature extends this capability so that OTM considers these cross-leg consolidation opportunities options while making the network routing decision (which involves the generation of the order movements that are then built in to shipments).  With this new capability, OTM can take full advantage of possible cross-leg consolidation options in shipment building.

Oracle Fleet Management

Combination Equipment Group Usability - Return Set Scenario

This feature simplifies the steps required to generate an empty (no freight) combination equipment group return shipment to support various scenarios where a loaded combination equipment group shipment requires a balancing/mirror shipment to support returning an empty combination equipment group back to the origin - as well as getting the driver back to their domicile.

An example use case - one of many - is where a single driver does the four shipments described below:

  • Shipment 1 - Line haul, DC - "A" to Location "B" with combination equipment group out with two loaded trailers Equipment Group 1 (48 foot) Equipment Group 2 (pup).
  • Shipment 2 - At Location "B" - drop Trailer 1 Equipment Group 1 (48 foot) then shipment 2 starts from Location B and delivers to the all the locations in Equipment Group 2 (pup) then returns back to Location B.
  • Shipment 3 -  From Location B - Swap Equipment Group 2 with Equipment Group 1 (48 foot)  make all the deliveries in Equipment Group 1 then return to Location B.
  • Shipment 4 - [This is the shipment created from this feature,] At Location B - hook up empty Equipment Group 2 (pup) with empty equipment group 1 (48 foot) and return to DC "A" with combo equipment group contain two empty pieces of equipment.  Structurally, the shipment has two S_Equipments.

There are multiple variants of this scenario - the underlying goal is to simplify the creation of shipment 4, the return shipment with the combo equipment with two equipment groups. In the above scenario, shipments 1,2 and 3 are freight-related and are, accordingly, natively created by OTM planning.   This enhancement addresses the need for the 4th shipment where there is no freight, but the driver must return home, and with the same, or similar equipment, that they left their domicile with.

Stand Alone Work Assignment Process

This feature provides you with a new Manage Work Assignment action Optimize Work Assignments that allows you to select a set of shipments and run the work assignment logic against the shipments selected.  Previously automated work assignment creation was done exclusively within bulk planning.  With this feature you can now create work assignments with shipments that were planned in different bulk plan runs.

Solution Quality Improvement for Round-Trip Shipment Sequence vs. One-Way Shipment Sequences

This feature provides the user with a new sequencing configuration option that performs a more thorough analysis of a common carrier (one-way) shipment sequence vs a fleet (round-trip) sequences inside of the multi-stop logic for planning environments where a fleet vs common carrier decision needs to be performed during bulk planning.  Within the Multi-Stop Sequencing, OTM will new evaluate multiple,  multi-stop sequence options; those appropriate for Fleet (pedal shaped) rates (with depots etc.) and those more appropriate for common carrier rates (no depots).  As service provider assignment happens, the more appropriate sequence is chosen.

Estimate Hours of Service When Tracking Events Are Received

This feature provides you with new logic that allows OTM to estimate a driver's hours of service state based on the information OTM has regarding a driver's current and previous shipment assignments, as well as recently captured hours of service (HOS) information.

In previous releases, for a fleet shipment with a driver is assigned, when OTM received a tracking event, it was expected that the tracking event would contain the driver's hours of service (HOS) state - hours remaining or hours consumed. If this information was not provided, OTM would make an assumption that the driver was "fresh" and re-set the driver's hours of service.

Combination Equipment Group Usability - Support Multi-Stop Scenarios

This feature provides OTM users with the ability to create multi-stop shipments that also uses combination equipment in various scenarios.

Freight Payment, Billing, and Claims

Invoice Adjustment Cost Behavior Enhancement

This feature provides you with a new property that allows you to control how OTM processes invoice adjustments.  Using the new property glog.invoice.adjustments.createNewInvoiceForAdjustments you can now support the following scenarios.

With glog.invoice.adjustments.createNewInvoiceForAdjustments=true (default):

  • Given an adjustment to an Approved Invoice the adjustment amount will be captured in a new invoice.
  • Given an adjustment to an Unapproved Invoice the adjustment amount will be added to the existing invoice as a invoice line.

With glog.invoice.adjustments.createNewInvoiceForAdjustments=false:

  • Given an adjustment to an Approved Invoice the adjustment amount will be added to the existing invoice as a new invoice line.

Logistics Network Modeling

Logistics Network Modeling

OVERVIEW

Logistics Network Modeling (LNM) provides a simple and convenient way to perform strategic and tactical analyses of your transportation network using real-world operational data. Customers often want to examine the impact of changes to their network’s design or to transportation policies. For example, you may want to determine the impact of routing via a cross-dock versus direct. Or, you may want to quantify what the savings may be if you expanded the shipping/receiving hours at your distribution center by a few hours. Or, perhaps, you wish to understand the impact of an increase in rates to your transportation budget. Often, customers want to quantify the synergies and impact of adding a new line of business, or, if you are a Logistics Service Provider, of adding a new customer to the network. Analyzing the impact of a new demand forecast to your transportation needs and spend is another such example.

Logistics Network Modeling allows you to perform such analyses with little additional setup. Further, the analysis is performed using the rich operational details of your transportation network and your rules and policies, and uses the very same optimization and algorithms that you employ in planning your transportation operations.

FEATURES

LNM is an intrinsic part of OTM. It allows you to quickly define the different scenarios you wish to analyze in the context of your current operational environment. You can set up a Project for a specific type of analysis and multiple different Scenarios to capture specific variations of data changes and rules and policy changes that you may want to compare simultaneously. You can specify which set of orders to consider for each Scenario and adjust the planning parameters to be used in the optimization plan. Specific data changes can be made in two ways: you can directly edit the data via the user interface, or define a Data Rule for more complex changes en masse. All changes are isolated to the particular scenario and do not impact the actual operational data in any way.

To analyze the scenarios, LNM performs the same planning steps that you would in your operational plans and uses your actual operational data to produce results showing you the impact to your operations with extreme accuracy. There are no approximations or aggregations of any kind. Your actual operational data is used, overlaid with the changes specific to the scenario, and your daily operational planning is performed to determine the impact to your operations.

LNM makes it easy to analyze the results and to compare the different scenarios side-by-side. The LNM Analysis Workbench is a multi-pane configurable view that provides an easy way to view the resulting shipment plan, drill to the associated details, view them on the Map, etc. The LNM Analytics Dashboard is another useful view that allows you to compare scenarios using multiple common metrics across many dimensions such as cost, utilization, etc. You can also define your own custom metrics and visualizations. You can compare multiple scenarios using both to understand impact of potential changes and determine the best response to them.

BENEFITS

The ability to perform strategic and tactical scenario analysis using real-world operational data can lead to significant savings. Being able to model the impact of potential changes to your logistics network using actual operational data, and determine the optimal response allows you to ensure that your network is always operating at its best and ensures that you meet your service levels most efficiently. Since LNM is an intrinsic part of OTM, you can quickly analyze and easily implement changes to your network settings, design and policies. This leads to a resilient supply chain that can easily adapt to the constant change you face. You can easily perform supply chain risk analyses, such as Network Disruption Risk or Supplier Change Risk, and ensure that you are always prepared with the optimal response plan for each possible risk.
